I’m actually not a big Lana fan. I found most of her music boring and rather pretentious. NFR however, is a great record.

I agree 100%. In fact, NFR was the first full LP I heard from her. Reminds me of December 2019!

Aaaah Wicked a Succession stan :jonny5: Is it safe to say it's better than Billions :eli: (Personally haven't watched Billions past like 5th episode of S1 so willing to keep my stance firm lol)

The Boys would be top tier for me personally had it been only focused on the sups... the actual "boys" kinda ruin it (moreso on S2)

Otherwise great list! On Becoming A God, Corporate, David Makes Man, WTSU :worship: I remeber you championing Snowfall along with FutureHive, guess gotta add it to the list!

The jessica Pratt record would be my no 1 album followed by NFR, don't think i've listened to anything else as much past those 2 last year lol

I will listen to Ari's album if you feel like that. Yea the year was pretty song for r&b/soul projects. I didn't know Saadiq released last year, though. I have to agree the imaging was on point through the NFR rollout.

The shows I can't even speak on though because I'm like years behind.

i am listening to ari's rn, so far, loving it. bmo and new apartment are my faves

@Wicked There's this Finnish Folk compilation by Hiski Salomaa called Longing For Freedom(that I even added on rym's database) that i've recently really enjoyed. It's full of songs recorded from the 20s-30s. Regional Music is too broad so perhaps if you're looking for something in a more specific region then that will help.

Ari Lennox is someone I can respect. I don't really listen to Lana anymore like that aside from some songs here and there.

Damn that Ari Lennox album is so underrated. I listened to the album when I moved into a new apartment (after living in houses with larger groups of friends, no animosity or anything thankfully), so New Apartment HIT. I think the title track is my fave. I love NFR too, it actually weirdly grew on me even more in early 2020. Her best and lowkey only good album!

Albums on your HMs that I actually have things to say about:

Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains - RIP :emofish: The album is good
Erika de Casier - Essentials - I think this/Emily King were my favorite R&B-leaning albums of 2019
100 Gecs - 1000 Gecs - Didn't get into the Gecs until early lockdown days weirdly, so good
Danny Brown - uknowhatimsayin¿ - Wish I listened to this more tbh
JPEGMAFIA - All My Heroes Are Cornballs - Wish I listened to this more tbh [2] tho I liked it more than Danny's album
Orville Peck - Pony - Gay country king
Jamila Woods - Legacy! Legacy! - This was MUCH better than her previous effort, which was still good but like... Legacy Legacy is AMAZING

Chernobyl was an incredible show! :jonny: So dark but god knows it had to be if it were to accurately tell the story of what happened.

Gonna post an EP list in a few.

This is how I've always felt too :coffee: but NFR is probably her best album and Cinnamon Girl is amazing :jonny: one of my faves from Lana

Also your shows list top tier  Succession :alexz: also On Becoming A God In Central Florida has been on my watchlist forever, I really need to watch it already.

On Becoming... Is ATRL bait, I'm surprised it didn't pick up traction. Really enjoyed it.

Ari's record was so ****ing underrated, it made my top 5 as well. Everyone i show it to loves it, but for some reason ppl just dont know about it / her. :biblio:  Over it is so good too

Succession S3 coming to stomp :giraffe:

All of this is true. Then again it seems none of the Dreamville artists get promo like that.

lmao tbh... It was too much trying to get through her albums as a whole before. Let's hope she can keep up the good work post NFR.

I've seen the light (rather, S2 was a lot better... ) Yeah, it's better than Billions which I have no desire to catch up on now. I'll post my thoughts on S2 later but I don't fully disagree re: The Boys. Snowfall is challenging in S1 just for the fact there's 2 other plot lines that don't grab your attention that well but it pays off. S3 is REALLY good, and not in a trashy Power kind of way, it's a good show full stop. S4 is gonna be crazy. (also I feel like all things considered for historical purposes its just as beneficial since it's the first fictional thing that acknowledges the US government planted Crack cocaine in Black American neighborhoods). Yeah TV has taken over my interests since it's become harder to find new releases that genuinely connect with me.

I'm moving soon and can't wait to play New Apartment on a loop. Agree on both ends in regards to Lana. Good commentary, didn't like Dannys album as much as Atrocity Exhibition but I'm looking forward to his new stuff.

Absolutely loved the final season of Corporate!

serpentwithfeet - Apparition

+ This is a more accessible project with him, and I'm guessing he's preparing for a more accessible project. Still good, still  interesting. It's only 3 songs so there's not a ton to say. I think this will appeal to people who were perhaps put off by the "emptiness" of some of his previous songs.

Shygirl - Alias

+ I don't need to say much of anything y'all all got this on your lists so... It's good.

Tkay Maidza - Last Year Was Weird, Vol. 2

+ This is one of those flex projects where the artist is trying to display their versatility and every song sounds different... There's a lot of Big Boi influence here among other things. A little something for everyone and probably one of the better Industrial Hip Hop songs of the year.

DaBaby - My Brother's Keeper (Long Live G)

+ Alright this is weird cause while this man still has a hard time picking a good beat 8/10 times this is probably his best effort generally speaking. While I'm never going to hate on a rapper post-Drake that got put on without being cannibalized by Drake, he doesn't switch it up as much as he should. This the same dude who washed J. Cole on his own song, dropped one of the best songs of 2019 (Intro), etc,. so I guess I'll still hang in there. It's his project with the most depth with a purpose other than having another hit.

RMR - Drug Dealing Is a Lost Art

+ I know this was initially meme music but this was actually a decent listen. I think RMR is better equipped for this whole Country Rap thing more than Lil Nas X.

JPEGMAFIA - EP!

+ I wasn't in love with all Peggys recent singles but this was a cool EP. As time passes he becomes a better producer.

The way I'm kinda over this Best Of already :skull: I will finish it tho!

is jpegmafia's ep a disclosure moonlight situation? where its just random one off singles packaged into an ep physically?  well, i thought most of his material was good this year but bald was the standout.

i said it in another persons thread but i flopped with tkay. she deserved more of my time.

I'll check out Shygirl - Alias

Posted

EP! is my favorite from this batch. Bald! is an obvious standout.

Lol I just don't have the time I wish to do my own list ~properly. You got this, though. I like your Big Boi comment and def hear it. Forgot to check out RMR's thing, but his singles are fun. Good selection.

Ooh serpentwithfeet released an EP....... lemme add to my list. Keep forgetting to listen to that Tkay EP too.

Shygirl and Tkay :worship: their endless serve

The fact that i'm only familiar with one of these EPs :rip: My fault tho.

2019: Loved Ari's album! It's so sad how underrated R&B is as a genre currently. A track like BMO should've been a hit!

Love to see NFR! love as well :clap3:

Erika (!!), Summer, Orville were all nice too. Have not spent much time with Solo's album. I want to check it out soon.

EPs: Apparition was solid, but I only checked it out a few times. Shygirl... I'll try her out again :matty:
