Charli XCX: anthems #10 The Aces: Going Home 3 out of 3 from The Aces The country-flavored dreamy pop never sounded better. The four-piece girl band The Aces snapped in the second-to-last track on their sophomore album. The low-key sappy "Going Home" speaks about mental illness while its instrumentation doesn't show its darkness; the guitar makes it desperate, but the production is soft overall, meaning you might be in your worst place, but there's always a way out of the hopelessness because a home waits for you.

The Aces: Going Home #9 Dua Lipa: Hallucinate 3 out of 3 from Dua Lipa Dua Lipa slayed me harder than I expected. Her ATRL-acclaimed sophomore album got the most praise since Carly Rae Jepsen's EMOTION and it's not hard to see why: it lacks filler. With this album, she became an A-list star. No one sounds like her. (Okay, maybe Carly Rae comes closer because she makes 80's music too.) Among all the good tracks, "Hallucinate" is the absolute highlight with its groovy production. It's a dancefloor bomb! SG Lewis did that again.

Dua Lipa: Hallucinate #8 Mandy Moore: Tryin' My Best, Los Angeles 2 out of 2 from Mandy Moore We got Candy, In My Pocket, Crush from her, then she switched from pop to adult contemporary that I wasn't a big fan of. This year, she stayed on this lane and has convinced me because she released her best album to date. "Tryin' My Best, Los Angeles" sounds like a personal note. She's in the best place that she's ever been (Los Angeles): this fact is not too relatable for us, but you can feel her emptiness and loneliness through her voice which makes you emotional.

Mandy Moore: Tryin' My Best, Los Angeles #7 Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande: Rain on Me 1 out of 1 from Lady Gaga 1 out of 1 from Ariana Grande It was the easiest clue among them all, so there's not a surprise. I unstanned Lady Gaga when she released "Bad Romance" (still the ugliest pop song in the history). No, I didn't stan again, but "Rain on Me" reminded me of her old self when she made quality bops. Even though "Rain on Me" was frontloaded and didn't last long (SHAME), it was fresh among the awful rap songs that are dominating the charts overseas. I don't mind Ariana Grande's feature, but Gaga's parts are the best.

Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande: Rain on Me #6 mxmtoon: fever dream 1 out of 1 from mxntoon No, it's not that Dua Lipa song, misters. I'm shocked that I didn't see mxmtoon on any year-end chart yet. (Sorry if she was included somewhere, but I didn't notice.) (She even collaborated with ATRL favorite Carly Rae Jepsen, so her lack of charts appearance is more shocking.) It was definitely the loveliest song this year. "fever dreams" is haunting and the way ukulele makes it dreamy is so nice. 2000's kids are definitely here to stay.

I thought this a several years ago, but I gave a chance to listen to her new album and it got me. The best thing Ellie could ever do is to go back to her old producer because it almost made me forget the uninspired "Delirium" (and the PR machine behind it). "Tides" is a total banger with these strong drums and basses. A vibrant vibe. I like how the song builts up from nothing to catharsis.

I don't know how much Timbaland was involved in this song (besides his typical yep parts), I assume the production is by Bruno Martini (who is a DJ, by the way), but the standout in here is the Brazilian singer IZA. "Bend the Knee" is her first fully English-recorded song and she totally nailed it. Her vocals are amazing. If she plans to break out into the American market, Rihanna better shake because she's going to be replaced soon.

Bruno Martini, IZA & Timbaland: Bend the Knee #3 Carly Rae Jepsen: This Love Isn't Crazy 1 out of 1 from Carly Rae Jepsen Let me say it: "Dedicated" was disappointing. "Dedicated: Side B" was a step-up, but still disappointing. Thanks to heaven that "This Love Isn't Crazy" exists because it takes us back to the EMOTION era. This pop masterpiece easily lands in Carly Rae Jepsen's top five songs. Love might not be crazy, but cutting off all the Jack Antonoff-produced tracks from the final album is more than crazy. The world needs more by Carly and him.

Carly Rae Jepsen: This Love Isn't Crazy #2 Brandy: No Tomorrow 1 out of 1 from Brandy Her music career is as old as me, but she still manages to deliver quality somehow. (Some other R&B artists better take notes from her.) Her new album "B7" might not be as great as Two Eleven was because she will never top "Wildest Dreams" in this lifetime, but "No Tomorrow" SOLO VERSION is a close call. The minimal production opens the way to The Vocal Bible's soprano and the results speaks for itself.

Brandy: No Tomorrow #1 beabadoobee: Care 2 out of 2 from beabadoobee Right before MTV Rocks Europe was shut down (R.I.P.) in October, I started re-watching it in summer and I met this music video right there. As I said earlier, not only COVID but 80's-inspired music ate up everything in 2020, but beabadoobee's 90's rock-ish pop masterpiece "Care" went above them all. The nostalgia factor never hit me this hard because everytime I listen to this, I immediately go back to 1997. This artist was not even alive in the 90's, but the way she delivers the genre and the decade is mindblowing. She's lowkey a mini 2005 Hilary Duff. Thanks to this feeling, I watched many 90's films that I missed out before, including "She's All That", "Jawbreaker", "10 Things I Hate About You", "Bulworth". So, yeah, nostalgia has a huge power. @Legend E Always listen to your first intuition, FAT.
Remmy Posted December 20, 2020 Posted December 20, 2020 Oh hey, Going Home We love her! Hallucinate and Tides I'm fine with #6 not being Fever since that song is just okay. Oh at the Beyoncé hint being This Love Isn't Crazy My guess did make sense though! Both sides of Dedicated are great and the original is better, let's just get that straighT Rain On Me oh yes oh yes I peeked at maybe 3 beabadoobee songs weeks ago and while I love the throwback sound, her voice just doesn't do it for me, which is very unfortunate! Nice list overall

Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Swimming in the Stars made it into the list. She did that with the few weeks of tracking ddd Real Groove, Love Not Loving You, Kinky, My Head & My Heart, Levitating in the top 50 Love Again, Magic and Midnight Sky really are THAT bop! this ones for the girls and gays, obviously. Hallucinate, Tryin' My Best, Los Angeles and This Love Isn't Crazy really the 1-2-3 punch
ARTPØP Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Brightest Blue, Anthems, Tides, Rain On Me, Hallucinate great list!
Bubble Tea Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 50. Britney Spears: Swimming in the Stars 35. Dua Lipa: Levitating (feat. DaBaby) 32. Katy Perry: Champagne Problems 29. Rina Sawayama: Comme Des Garcons (Like the Boys) 28. Dua Lipa: Love Again 20. Miley Cyrus: Midnight Sky 11. Charli XCX: anthems 7. Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande: Rain on Me Now these are what we call BOPS! Especially Charli and Gaga - soooooo good. "Swimming in the Stars" is OBVIOUSLY a B-Side but it's cute nonetheless given how starved we are for new Britney.
Ewan Chaos Posted December 21, 2020 Posted December 21, 2020 Ooh Going Home I lowkey don't remember it HAHA but it's cute! Hallucinate, great song. That Mandy Moore pick is a good one! Totally underrated album. I guessed Rain On Me from the picture and I think the song is great. Good pick! The hint and picture for Bend the Knee oh my God This Love Isn't Crazy is cute! I liked a lot more from that album but it's the big bop which is fun. Care! A cute #1, my fave of bee's songs
