Hug Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 Spoiler https://youtu.be/j-Jvxo7a80o https://open.spotify.com/track/7qXccTN59EAZdzmL8zNcUF I love this whole mini-album, and spoiler alert, most of it ended up charting. I could've fit all of it, but with only 30 songs, I didn't want it to feel TOO redundant. Spoiler https://youtu.be/ptJ6QGnaroc https://open.spotify.com/track/1mI5Nfw6iStTmKyhnJVi6k Spoiler https://youtu.be/_BJ7Cp1_Oy0 https://open.spotify.com/track/7JvdSVJVa2OCaeBPFfgnfW I like this song a lot, but I know BGs leave a bad taste in a lot of people on here's mouth, so I'm not going to bother selling anybody on it. The pre-chorus is one of my favorites in K-Pop this year, however. I think about it a lot. Spoiler https://youtu.be/V52INUEWBHw https://open.spotify.com/track/6ugf8AinXOgjCWfrjZJvTa Really don't get why AleXa gets so panned when her music is not that different from BLACKPINK or K/DA (perhaps that's WHY, but...then I just have more questions...) Spoiler https://youtu.be/GycwcGjZWBg https://open.spotify.com/track/68qPGupXKOqzykZVJrWEpe Just a Monsta X album track. Not going to act like it's a world-changing, career-defining smash. It's serviceable if you already like the group. First trophy cabinet coming soon!
Hug Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 I didn't make a year end on ATRL last year, so my first Trophy Cabinet will be dedicated to the girls who STOMPED on me and snatched both my #1 and #2 song of 2019: DIA! Yes I love my flop GGs just like I love my flop BGs, if you flop you bop that's what I always say. Anyway here's DIA performing WOOWA + NO, my #2 and #1 songs respectively.

BlackoutZone Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Absolutely love the visuals and the descriptions
mokitsu Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 youre right because alexa's war music really sounds like KDA but i dont think she has the charisma to pull it off ???? idk
smholiv Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 would you like it? "No." You reminded me that despite you telling me to do so, and despite me being the second of two people who stan him, I haven't listened to Jung Jin Woo. Will do it today

I think you'll really like ARIA particularly but I'm excited for your thoughts regardless!

Hug Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 Okay change of plans I'm also doing Western songs today and we're getting this done in a week. Let's go bitches! Spoiler https://youtu.be/Lj4-SIa9bbk https://open.spotify.com/track/5GkQIP5mWPi4KZLLXeuFTT This was a highlight on the album TO ME. Doja isn't like amazing, but she didn't actively drag this song down either. I love that this is a more danceable song on an album that's mostly sleep-inducing. Spoiler https://youtu.be/u3YTvJhi7kw https://open.spotify.com/track/2rhWHc0UBesug1jvEupeBz I slept on this song a tad my first time I listened to it. I mean I liked it, but I realized it's among the best on the album later on. The whole album is great though, and it's my Western AOTY, even if all the tracks from a certain other album coming later would make you think otherwise. Spoiler https://youtu.be/_knNYThfGOQ https://open.spotify.com/track/4v8jmsVox8VwU5js3JHOJZ This shocked me when I first listened to Plastic Hearts because I really didn't think I'd like anything as much as Prisoner or Midnight Sky, but this was such a pleasant surprise! This is THE slut bop I needed on the album. Spoiler https://youtu.be/YhcSy28XDS0 https://open.spotify.com/track/4Nnx7d1MHiNi367p0BJsUv This song was weird because I liked it more the more I listened to it, albeit being indifferent at the beginning. It has an odd addictive quality to it. Spoiler https://youtu.be/2bfWe9beN58 https://open.spotify.com/track/6XPY03nLWtiZOIkTs2IBjN God this song is SO good. I only had it so low because sadly when it came out I wasn't listening to music much, but wow it's just...WOW!
Hug Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 So because I said I loved Charli Taft, it's time for me to admit something: if I were including songs not from 2020, Charli Taft would've been in my Top 5 this year (maybe even Top 3) with Pieces, because I got into it this year and I loved it SO much. I also got into another Charli Taft song this year, Like Me, and in general she is an AMAZING R&B songwriter. Her bridges are out of this world, and to top it all off, she has this rich voice that is perfect for her genre. Red Velvet stans may already be familiar with her for writing a lot of their "Velvet" tracks (which is usually their best work, mind you!) If you like R&B, PLEASE give her a chance!
Staryu Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 yas stan Motive Miss a Thing Gimme What I Want my 2nd fave from PH
Remmy Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 motive is cute, but Doja DOES sound like she has a sore throat or something sorry! Bikini P*rn Gimme What I Want mmm yup an easy PH standout!
Psycho Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Miss A Thing, Gimme What I Want, Bikini **** all slap
Hug Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 Okay I am going to update my K-Pop 25-21 and trophy cabinet now and later in the evening will be my Western songs/trophy cabinet. <3 Spoiler https://youtu.be/hxikYW3T6ms https://open.spotify.com/track/4SKgi17NbsoLGF0qZLcWmK Now might be a good time to mention that he's on a label called Planetarium Records and the label used to make music as a collaborative group called PLT. With one of the members of PLT, Villain, no longer being on the label, the "PLT" songs are now songs like this where they'll collab with each other when one of them releases a project. PLT's music was great, though! The other members also release great music. Spoiler https://youtu.be/VSc74fDej4I https://open.spotify.com/track/5uZ5VUoj2al8GttE421bTD My favorite TWICE song easily. I was so pleasantly shocked by this when I listened to Eyes Wide Open. It's unlike anything they've done in the past, which is perfect for me since I cared very little for what they did in the past outside of select exceptions. Spoiler https://youtu.be/swrp0Ib6490 https://open.spotify.com/track/2fHPAGSw5PIPsLsryJFAtg Fun fact: If I were to extend this list to a Top 100, twlv would've had the most entries with ~12. However, nobody would've cared (hell, nobody cares NOW but I digress.) This doesn't really sound THAT much like Blinding Lights, but you can tell that The Weeknd-print is there. Spoiler https://youtu.be/ZPcnPWIP8rM https://open.spotify.com/track/0cGCUhbMAO7onIazxdSVhN I had nothing to say about this. I like it, but I couldn't begin selling anyone on it. It's run-of-the-mill. Spoiler https://youtu.be/3cwutRm3dMQ https://open.spotify.com/track/3iiA4KlKkEa00FwKiFvQn0 This isn't even the last time you're seeing him, either. Hope you like the album cover! So everyone tell me how my taste in TWICE is awful or something I guess. Trophy Cabinet coming soon!
Hug Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 The most snubbed artist in my whole 2020 year end is without a doubt Dreamcatcher. I loved the album they released in the early half of the year (it's currently my highest rated 2020 album on aoty!) yet none of the songs actually charted. Still, I figure they deserve some attention in this year end, so here's a section dedicated to them. Sorry Dreamcatcher </3
TheWayWeWere Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 visuals slays Motive is nice bop, but I would like to hear original 34+35 feature Miss A Thing last 40 seconds is one of my favorite moments from Disco Bikini ****
Hug Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 Spoiler https://youtu.be/ZsR4gjNy58U?t=34 https://open.spotify.com/track/4Uyh4uFtztCHfd65ywHCL5 Honestly, if Kesha actually cared about having a decent-sized hit, she could've just cut the intro to this song out and promoted it. I think it's quite on-trend and really fun. The bridge is one of the best in her whole career like WOW. The intro just decimated this song, though, and that's highly unfortunate. Spoiler https://youtu.be/SjmXERieW9s https://open.spotify.com/track/7cLrrJ1Dk6WAQyDIj9j26A This song is actually so addictive. Also, even if I don't care for TOTGA, I love the call back to that song. I feel that must've been such a great moment for Katy stans listening to the album for the first time. Spoiler https://youtu.be/pC2r-0vf7Rw https://open.spotify.com/track/6yyL5urrTwSRIgh670wlbO Talk about criminally underrated. His vocals are insane and he's not just a singer, he's a multi-talented musician. His covers are amazing. I just wish his original music was better. I really like this, but I can't say it's special in any way outside of the vocal performance he brings to the song. The song sounds like a Weeknd reject, however. Spoiler https://youtu.be/e7h5Xfwk3VI https://open.spotify.com/track/7f4W57jidkPkcPybCxBHFh This song is so powerful and such a standout on the album. The gorgeous strings on this song really elevate it! This is the first time Kesha decided to even address her dad outside of a throwaway line and I love the vulnerability of it. Some might say the song should be longer, but I'm here for length! Spoiler https://youtu.be/lPPhb49rrRk https://open.spotify.com/track/3J6bLodhUHgNyzEZLgcieN Was really into this song for a minute, then I just forgot it existed. It might've been my brain trying to protect me because I despise that single cover. Second Western trophy cabinet coming...soon!
Hug Posted December 5, 2020 Author Posted December 5, 2020 I'm going to dedicate my second trophy cabinet to an artist who could've done quite well on my year end if I didn't decide to change my rules to exclude pre-2020 releases: LIZ! I got into her 2019 album "Planet Y2K" early in the year and it remains one of my favorite albums I've listened to this year. I love me a good turn-of-the-century-sounding pop BOP. They had the best choruses I swear! I'll showcase two of my favorite songs from the Planet Y2K album, Lost U 2 The Boys and Mickey.
BlackoutZone Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 (edited) YOUR TASTE I'M SUCH A CHARLI TAFT FAN I can't believe some other one exists! I obviously discovered her, because she wrote Eclipse, Sweet Crazy Love, Automatic and more classics, but her solo songs are flawless and her vocals are so enjoyable. I'm also SO happy SM did this with her, cause it's an another amazing song Wish she was more popular so we would get more frequent content, but she is yet to release a bad song. Your song choices from respective albums are absolutely amazing too, I have to stan... I wanted to mention that Charli's voice reminds me of LIZ, but you have her too whew Mickey is such a throwback pop banger, I would love LIZ to fully go in this direction, definitely my favorite song from PlanetY2K along with Electricity.
