potent Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 I don't know the songs this set although I might be interested in Jamie xx, but yeah he got me with Loud Places and then lost me after
mokitsu Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 i really liked idontknow! seems like new territory for jamie and it's exciting. that switchup at the start! keiyaA's album was ok but there were releases i enjoyed more in that vein. yaeji.... i really enjoyed it for a week or two in quarantine but it really doesn't wow me anymore her sound is getting a bit tired, or maybe it just doesnt work in a LP format
bestfiction Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 lemme start from the beginning from what I've heard from Magdalena Bay, they're serving to me the amateur, DIY version of Carly Rae Jepsen's music jfhdgfhg Speaking of Carly, Summer Love is deffo a highlight from Side B x IDORU is cute, serving the anime vibes. One of the better tracks on MA Everything SOPHIE touches turns golden me thinks Purity Ring's album was super boring and sterile to me so x Surprised to see onlyoneof mentioned, I like their stuff generally but don't have the urge to listen to them often. They've kinda stolen LOONA's dreamy aesthetics
Staryu Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 Hi Tom, I miss playing Survivor with you and yas stan iPhone

Himera did that... And yeah I get the Dylan Brady/gecs overexposure it's gonna ruin them before their big break. Their production is too all over the place yet very formulaic which doesn't help. That said those Tony and Rico songs are really good. I will be needing the Evian Christ album expeditiously. Also Bad Gyal EP coming in January allegedly!!! I'm ready for the honorary Latina slayage. Can't wait for the Bad Gyal EP. And I don't know why but I prefer Dylan Brady by himself over 100 gecs. Keiyaa's album was a really fresh sound to me, but I didn't listen enough to develop favorites yet. I like Ty Dolla's part in ego death too but yeah had to cut around. He can do better and we know it! IS Roosevelt mainstream now? Happy to see his best song from this year on this list. ANOTHER PERSON WHO LISTENED TO DOGLEG yeah you have to stan them for liking Smash Bros (yeah they're a bit basic stanning Melee only but meh). Your song pick is great but not specifically my fave from them. Didn't realize that Ichiko released a full album! lemme add to my list~ It wasn't intentional towards Romy, Jamie does have the best solo discography out of the group but it's more like by default. I wouldn't exacly call roosevelt underground and all and his songs has always been accessible but the audience is widening a little. No melee slander here thank you! And yeah it leaked a few days before Best Of started I believe. 21 hours ago, potent said: I don't know the songs this set although I might be interested in Jamie xx, but yeah he got me with Loud Places and then lost me after Gotta give Jamie another try next year if he decides to release another song. 14 hours ago, mokitsu said: i really liked idontknow! seems like new territory for jamie and it's exciting. that switchup at the start! keiyaA's album was ok but there were releases i enjoyed more in that vein. yaeji.... i really enjoyed it for a week or two in quarantine but it really doesn't wow me anymore her sound is getting a bit tired, or maybe it just doesnt work in a LP format I think it's the latter for yaeji. EP format is where she's best at evidently. 13 hours ago, bestfiction said: lemme start from the beginning from what I've heard from Magdalena Bay, they're serving to me the amateur, DIY version of Carly Rae Jepsen's music jfhdgfhg Speaking of Carly, Summer Love is deffo a highlight from Side B x IDORU is cute, serving the anime vibes. Tom Vercetti Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 40. DJ Gigola & Kev Koko – Sueño (Tech Trance) Pleasant club music. Not often can dj's include their own vocals with much succession but Ms. Gigola's case is different. 39. Lianne La Havas - Bittersweet (Neo-Soul) I was surprised to see a lot of love for her this year. Back in 2015 when her sophomore album happened, it made little to no splash. Bittersweet showcases the best of her vocal talent and songwriting. 38. Bladee - It Girl (Cloud Rap) This makes my mood happier everytime =) 37. Rina Sawayama - Comme Des Garçons (Like the Boys) (Dance Pop, Future House) THE BEST SINGLE FROM SAWAYAMA. And if this was "pandering to the gays" then she should've caved in more instead of forcing the cringeworthy 00s "Alt rock/nu-metal" callback direction and cheesy ballads. Hopefully like Charli's Sucker it's just a phase. House pop > pop rock forever. Honorable mention: Love Me 4 Me 36. אלה לי [Ella Lee] - זוט עני (Zot ani) (Dance-Pop, Bass House, Hip House) Wasn't expecting myself to like this that much before I first heard it but I was proven wrong. The best way to describe this is foreign bassline pop slightly reminiscent of Liz's When I Rule The World. Mamamoo may have did this song first with Hip but Ella Lee's better x 35. Lil Uzi Vert ft Nav - Leaders (Pop Rap) The best nav feature. Love the aquatic atmosphere the song invokes overall~ 34. Roisin Murphy - Simulation (Nu-Disco) Yes i'm aware it's an old song but i'm basing this on the current album mix that's been reworked. Prefer it over the 2012 version. Everyone seems to love Murphy's law or jealousy but simulation connects to me the most being a fan of Mark E and Luomo's lengthy disco/deep house fusion music . 33. Thaiboi Digital - New City (Cloud Rap, Trap) One of the best songs under 2 minutes long. Total earworm. 32. Maya Ricci - Happy Chemicals (Glitch Pop, Electropop, Cloud Rap) Maya Ricci makes Billie Eyelash obselete. Adore the hardstyle beat~ 31. Eyedi - J.us.T (K-Pop, Electropop) The way she bodied Ariana Grande The 3rd best K-Pop song of 2020 (hint). 30. Playboi Carti - @ Meh (Trap) Like all other Carti songs, it "slightly" grew on me, but not enough for me to call it one of his best. Cute bleep bloopy production and all. 29. 645AR ft FKA Twigs - Sum Bout U (Trap, Alternative R&B) This is 645AR's only good song with the most effective melodies. I almost went the solo twigs version again 28. Salem - Starfall (Witch House) Witch house Icons returned with a proper comeback single (no offence capulets). Synths galore. 27. Yung Lean - Violence (Trap) One of Whiteamor's best 2020 production. Also into Lean's whispery tone. 26. Jpegmafia - Bald! (Cloud Rap, Experimental Hip Hop) I think JPEGMAFIA is overhyped by Death Grips/Danny Brown/Industrial Hip Hop fans but Bald! is his best with one of his more memorable hooks. The crossover of drum&bass and hip hop also bodes nicely. 25. Sam Hunt - Hard To Forget (Bro-Country, Pop) Very inconsistent artist with some ****ty singles but also some great ones. The Webb Pierce sample is brilliant. 24. La Zowi - Phonecall (Uk Bass, Neoperreo) When you're paired with talented producers (Jam City/Sinjin Hawke/Zora Jones), great results are expected. 23. Arca - KLK (Latin Electronic, Deconstructed Club, Neoperreo) There's certainly a lot going on in this song. The glitchy vocal chops, gun shots, and synthlines makes it chaotic and all over the place but it also makes this one of her most standout-ish tracks. 22. Oaf1 ft ppgcasper - Think About It (Progressive House, Dance Pop) When the beat kicks in 21. Yabujin - Hardstyle Drill 2009 Nokia Angelz مسدسات مجمدة 1.6 (Experimental Hip Hop, Cloud Rap) Sounds like the future of hip hop to me and i'm here for it.

ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 8, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 8, 2020 Bittersweet is sooo good Comme Des Garcons is cute, but I actually love those cheesy ballads
SLIME Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Yoooo ! I heardd twigs got an onlycamzzz? *Brb*
SLIME Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Ok this set is where I noticed a few repeats from my list all in a row. I love @ Meh's "IDM"-esque bloops but same I wouldn't call it his best best. KLK is fire. Sam Hunt surprised me here but well I'll give it a listen. Btw LOL I think Nav's feature strangely works also. We stan Bladee for lightening your mood. I would say I'm ~30% into the Drainer world so I didn't know the Thaiboy song. But gotta give it to them that they pump out short bangers.
Ewan Chaos Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 I know Blood was big...ish in "our community" but you're right that Bittersweet/this new album is giving it a higher light (I guess we can thank the likes of Anthony Fantano for that? skdsldlksjdsa). Bittersweet is ****ing flawless. Quite inclined to agree with your CDG pick. Though idk I think both can live just fine on a DEBUT album which is why it works on Swayama to have STFU right before CDG. And they both pissed off the gays LOL. Yeah of course the pop fans are gonna not care as much for Simulation but I'm with you; it's really really good and this mix is the best it's sounded. It works so well as an opening song and the "I feel my story's still untold" being copy/pasted from Murphy's Law as an album manifesto is super cute.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 8, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) yes YES ok its my first time listening to this and i have to admit, its really really really really really really good. thank you. im going to hard disagree with your rina take. when she tries to do traditional pop sounds it usually just sounds so unremarkable to me. thank you for choosing the correct arca song. and then simulation/bald/@ meh fill out this update. i never really got into la zowie. i should probably just give her another chance. the salem song was good too but i have to admit the album disappointed. Edited December 8, 2020 by Madame X
mokitsu Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 lianne blew it the **** out of the water with this album and im glad shes getting her flowers. she did a bbc symphony concert this year that was amazing as well. kinda screaming at the HIP copy that la zowi song was good
Lazuli Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 commes des garcon i still love the rocky tracks and chosen family tho klk is cute
Wicked Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Sam Hunt gets a lot of hate, but I agree with your assessment. That one and Bald are my faves, but Simulation & klk are up there.
Staryu Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 37. Rina Sawayama - Comme Des Garçons, one of my favorite songs of the year, idc if it is pandering to me, it worked I guess Love Me 4 Me is one of my faves from the album too
Tremor Christ Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) Simulation album mix is better than the extended version. 10/10 song. Sam Hunt's album was enjoyable. I like Body Like a Backroad too KLK a whole bop Co-sign on 645AR. It's Twigs' song lol I think Rina is overrated: her voice isn't unique, her music doesn't bring anything new to the table, it's all revivalism whether it be y2k pop, house or nu-metal. Style over substance. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it for what it is though Edited December 8, 2020 by Tremor Christ
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted December 8, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 8, 2020 Roisin and Rina Dance excellence with those songs
Blue Rose Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Simulation is excellent. I agree Comme Des Garçons is Rina’s best. Carti kinda flopped for your chart
BlackoutZone Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Surprised with CDG, I noticed it's kinda hated, it doesn't really fit the album for me, but it's not like it's a very cohesive project anyway. Can't say I hate it myself though, sits pretty at 200 plays on last fm Not a fan of Pabllo remix though Simulation really good take out from RM, it thought for a spot on my list with Murphy's Law J.us.T gorgeous
TheWayWeWere Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 I loved old Simulation version more Rina
Bubble Tea Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 LIKE THE BOYS, LIKE THE BOYS I'M SO CONFIDENT.
Remmy Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Comme des garçons has always been a bit overhyped for me, but it's still a solid bop at the end of the day so whatever
