Starting now. Of course links will be provided for every song since there's (likely) gonna be stuff that's not popularly known. That's why I provide the deets.

80. Magdalena Bay - Sky2Fall (Synthpop, Nu-Disco)

a0759131829_10.jpg

Admittingly i've written them off cuz I thought they were just another run of the mill synthpop duo. I still have some suspicions but Sky2Fall was the first thing that "clicked". It's short and sweet, which is actually gonna be a common thing for the majority of my entries besides a few special ones.

79. Jhené Aiko - P*$$Y FAIRY (Alternative R&B)

bpRcxtd9XpWcvGt6mVthFlf0EyOCaW3sOQU5_juchCtE3ZIDvvc8Vl_v6JBYRp-uDs_szWI5yZXdeMyJLbZ74dRc_oIe1pvMh4MxeXv36Ob53TlGVRA8Us6p7iu1Hu3x9haSWzEbA1WbhDd4_-Eep9WDNxVPhf__FYy-cye_efySMBlfdoMDO5HS5DZ7fosTu7Por-U-PP0AW8l4w6ftxHyhsZgGk3yJuqFb-tWIzvloiP9z02KpbTq59UtA3Uf_-MqiK5Ur5dc

Anyone who knows me knows I've been dragging her ambien vocals forever. However, the song's vibe is evidence that she momentarily found her mojo. She needs to continue making more notes from Aaliyah.

78. Oneohtrix Point Never - Lost But Never Alone (Hypnagogic Pop, Art Pop)

a1131233095_10.jpg

His music has been transitioning more into pop ever since Gardens Of Delight. While i'm a huge fan of his electronic/sampling based music, the art pop approach doesn't hit me as effectively. I always find at least a song or two that I like tho, and Lost But Never Alone hits the closest to the GOD era mark.

77. 070 Shake - Guilty Conscience (Alternative R&B, Synthpop)

Modus_Vivendi_by_070_Shake.jpg

The ghost-town singer debuted with one of the earliest good songs of the year back in January. Of course time wasn't advantageous for her music but it's still a solid artifact of pre-pandemic 2020 times.

76. Grimes - Idoru (Artpop, Progressive Breaks)

Miss%20Anthropocene_Grimes.jpg

I think Grimes always had good album closers and her recent panned album also applies to that pattern. There were also slim pickings for 2020 grime songs too tbh.

75. Carly Rae Jepsen - Summer Love (Dance-Pop, Synthpop)

Dedicated_Side_B.png

The only immediate song I remotely remember from Dedicated Side B. Surprised she hasn't released this as a single since it sounds like it can fit somewhat with the mold of retro-influenced pop of 2020.

74. Park Hye Jin - 'Like this' (Outsider House, Deep House)

a2078891847_5.jpg

Recommended for fans of Yaeji~

73. Fletcher - Forever (Sophie Remix) (Electropop, UK Bass)

9702ce0f7b75c4438ef6e821abac6c6f.300x300x1.jpg

This would be Spotify'd levels of generic if it wasn't for SOPHIE's unique touches. I'm usually not into singers like her but this one's a bop.

72. Yn Jay x Louie Ray - Coochie (Trap)

nlq2nSQ.jpg

Banger and more thought provoking than J Cole's 2020 output.

71. Raveena - Headaches (Neo-Soul, Psychedelic Soul)

298324ea394dd4e58d0069d4b20bd29a.1000x1000x1.jpg

The song's production got something going for it. I wish her vocals were more touching but it fits nonetheless.

70. Megan Thee Stallion - Don't Stop (Trap)

Megan_Thee_Stallion_-_Don't_Stop.png

Megan is miss most of the time for me but the industrial influenced prod helps here and no one ever argues against a thugger feature (except for some pop-only fans). This is also by default better than every Cardi B song.

69. Tame Impala - Lost In Yesterday (Psychedelic Pop)

Not necessarily as impactful as Let It Happen or The Less I Know The Better but after a string of flop singles they had to hit somewhere. It has enough of a groove to standout on an album like The Slow Rush.

68. Ravenna Golden - Racecar (Bubblegum Bass, Electropop)

2c7ae578fc01f3247fb7c2b879048107.500x500x1.jpg

A small taste of the post-100 gecs "hyperpop" world that is currently among us in certain scenes. Coincidentally she worked with Dylan Brady like 5 years ago.

67. Purity Ring - Stardew (Synthpop, Electropop)

890bb58cc525527d4398106bdc290b0e.1000x1000x1.jpg

Ahh yes, another victim of the follow-up to their 2015 album being a disappointment chamber. Neon Indian smartly avoided (or delayed) that btw. Their sound doesn't resonate as much this year and their attempt to remake alice deejay's iconic single Better Off Alone wasn't received lightly. Salem did it better 9 years ago too. Their battery juice may be about empty but starfall had to use what was leftover.

66. Coucou Chloe - Nobody (Experimental Hip Hop)

yBie4fc.jpg

Does Shygirl better than Shygirl *shrug* The vocal effects is extra (not a bad thing) but the song is less than 2 minutes literally so it doesn't wear down on repeated listens.

65. OnlyOneOf - Dora Maar (K-POP, Alternative R&B)

MoOHl6.jpg

Not as essential as 2016's NCT but they're serviceable for fans of K-R&B.

64. Hot Mulligan - *Equip Sunglasses* (Pop Punk, Emo)

9edd950cb4934aabacbe2aaae0640f7f.1000x1000x1.jpg

Fun & catchy vocal delivery for modern pop punk.

63. SG Lewis, Robyn, Channel Tres - Impact (Hip House)

813wxgdfTKL._SS500_.jpg

Robyn > Channel > SG Lewis

62. Albany & La Zowi - Sugar Mami (Reggaeton/Neoperreo)

71JD9CWIhiL._SS500_.jpg

The Female reggaeton wave >

61.Dutchavelli - Only If You Knew (UK Drill, UK Hip Hop)

55de52fa0ad2e606b417b3a4e7d88b8f.720x719x1.png

2019-2020 saw a popularity surge of UK Drill (thanks to Pop Smoke) and Dutchavelli contributed to one of the notable moments from it.

Idoru wasn't one of my faves on the album but still a lovely song :celestial4: Summer Love is so good :katie2:

Don't Stop's production goes off :jonny5: the chorus kinda sucks but it's still a big bop

Lost In Yesterday is my fave on TSR :smitten: Dora Maar is very cute, I prefer their most recent title track but still

Posted

Lost in Yesterday is a masterpiece :jonny5: one of their best songs, I did like the album even though I understand the criticisms, but this song is undoubtedly amazing

I also liked Guilty Conscience for a bit but the Tame Impala remix lol

youre not right for even thinking magdalena bay is run of the mill :biblio: THEY NEVER WERE.  sky2fall is underrated though, a lot of haters for that, but my fave is prob body from mini mix 2.

i actually just listened to 070 shake for the first time....... this week.  that is her best song on the album.

dont stop is megan's best song and i dont trust people who dont agree.

Yikes I listened to Dedicated side b and I honestly don't remember any of it. Dedicated clicked with me but side b really is forgettable I guess

Posted

Um this Magdalena Bay song is flawless, lemme dive deeper into them. Still need to listen to Oh E Oh Point.

070 Shake! Glad to see her here, Guilty Conscience is a flawless song from a flawed album. Wish the album was more in that vein, but I'm happy to see you liked that song.

Summer Love, Don't Stop, and Lost in Yesterday are fantastic picks from those albums. Don't Stop especially... wish the rest of the album was more like that/Girls in the Hood/Shots Fired

Posted

i know and love most of these. don't stop was a highlight in megan's album and i wish she explored that sound more

i'll be checking out some of these though, onlyoneof's song is sounding great already

Idoru is one of Claire's best songs tbh

Summer Love :clap3:

Surprised to see Don't Stop tbh

Love Idoru, her Utopia'd serve...

Summer Love is nice, but I honestly have hard time finding stand outs on Dedicated Side B, it's a very pleasant listen as a whole, but you can tell these are all outtakes.

You chose Starfall, but linked stardew which is my stand out from WOMB so I'll go with it as a correct choice :fan:

Lost In Yesterday seems to be everyone's highlight of The Slow Rush, but for me it still isn't up there with pre-release tracks like Borderline or Posthumous Forgiveness.

OnlyOneOf should appeal to me since I'm a LOONA stan and they are another creative Jaden Jeong project, but their output is not hitting me just yet.

Impact flawless, huge replay value, sort of excited for SG Lewis album.

Those are my exact x2 same thoughts on the Forever remix but I love it because the touches are that unique. It's been the SOPHIE entry-point for one of my normie friends so I'd like to see how far I can push it :eli:

you not loving Shygirl is a difference that we now have, but, I dig Chloe too. *peruses the rest*

stan Yeezus!

Summer Love is overrated if I'm being honest, it's still good though. I don't really care for Magdalena Bay's mini songs, at least their main EPs are solid. Guilty Conscience :jamming:

Ready for more :foxaylove:

Yeah hooks aren't Megan's strongsuit at all but the rest can make up for it.

It's good yeah. I also liked Breathe Deeper but LIY proves that sometimes less is more.

Welp. I listened to a couple of other songs from magdalena through a shuffle before I heard sky2fall and they didn't stick to me at all. I don't even remember the names of them atm :rip: Heard Drop Ten but I like nobody's prod more.

Emotion Side B had the better approach. I don't many will go back to dedicated B if they haven't dropped it already.

Glad u like it. 070's debut being C-Tier is kinda understandable since she's still fairly new. There's some good ideas flowing around that has potential for better execution on a sophomore project.

I didn't have much expectations for the 070 shake album for me to be letdown. It was one of those early january releases that many just had to settle for at that time. Now that the year is almost over, of course there's not much to go back to.

Trust me, I tried hard to like Shygirl but she doesn't work out for me. Even with Sophie helping her on tracks like Slime. Something about her delivery.

I get why people may think Summer Love is overrated. Kinda like Taylor's Cruel Summer where people automatically assume it's the best track but what can you do.

Yeah totally agree with you about 070 Shake. I guess we'll see if the album grows/what her future output will look like!

How many artists do you know?

Tom Vercetti: Yes.

:giraffe:

Carly Rae :clap3:

Nice start, ***** Fairy is surely Jhene at her best.

Don't Stop is cool. And yes, better than any Cardi song. Megan needs to stop tryna do hooks and let some R&B songstress do it.
