Pink Matter Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Lana used to go SO hard with the hooks and bridges on BTD. National Anthem being one of her best

GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 The third batch is coming tomorrow (cause i completely forgot about this)
GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Hey! I finally remembered last night that I had this still going, but good thing I had chosen the songs I wanted and had them ready. Once again, I hope you guys like the choices and comment on your favorites or ones you are interested in. Third Batch 11. Your Song- Cissy Houston Is it bad that i’m not a huge fan of the original? Like it’s a lovely recording and Elton has grown on me IMMENSELY in the last year but it's his biggest classic and I cant seem to get into it. Its covers however? Golden. I heard this when my 60s divas playlist ended and Spotify recommended it to me. While some people would be like of course you think a song by Whitney Houston’s mother is amazing, but in reality I was never a fan of Cissy Houston’s voice. Here though she shows a sense of refinery yet soulfulness that only a gospel-trained professional could possess. She did this lyrical masterpiece justice. Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sz9zajLTQ2Y 12. Brown Eyes- Destiny's Child I haven't listened to a full Destiny’s Child album beside their Christmas album before this year. As a matter of fact, I was on a crusade of 70s-90s R&B once again when this beautiful song came on. Its pretty basic tbh and certainly doesn't stand out among the grand scheme of things, but as always the harmonies these three women could do was never too much and could always save the day. Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvbUYXE5_cE 13. September Song- JP Cooper I was really conternding on whether to put this on my list. I could have bet a whole bunch that I heard this a while ago, but I really couldn't pin down a moment so at worst, I’ll categorize at a re-discovery. It's a cute song with a nostalgic feel. It feels so warm and at the same time kinda sad in how he has memories with someone who doesn't remember him (at least that’s what i’m getting from it) and it hits cause I tend to have that lingering fear. Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxwhwIhQq2s 14. Hold On- Wilson Phillips I had a feeling there would be some people who would love this song. It’s pretty old (30 years now) but fits the vibe that many of you guys enjoy in older pop music. I love the harmonies during the chorus- it feels so fulfilling. Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIbXvaE39wM 15. Work It- Missy Elliot I knew of Missy Elliot for a long time since I joined the pop culture world. But I didn't bother to experience the excellence of her lyrical power- like you sit and wonder who on earth thinks of rhymes so outlandish yet so unique? I don't listen to early female rap, but I dont think many can say they can write and perform a jam this good and creative. The way I was SHOOk as hell when I realized she had one of the lines reversed in the chorus. A shame it spent 10 weeks at #2. 16. Love Is On the Way- Billy Porter (Sorry the pic is so big lmao) I first saw Billy in Pose (there’s a song from that show on here too) and I was a fan of his character and him as a person- he’s come so far in his career and to be finally recognized for the talent he has is amazing. But I don't know if its because of age or style, but I had NO clue he had chops like this until I heard this powerhouse. This man was singing upper chest belts with ease and precision and emotion and POWER on this song. My girl Celine did a version of this and while her’s is lovely and more well-known, Mr. Porter stands head and shoulders above any attempt of this song that’s ever been done. It’s a song about moving on and in a way finding self love and appreciation. The love that’s on the way is love for himself. Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfSzND__h7E
