Staryu Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Stupid Love is so overhated, I don't get why, it is such a fun bop
KasioKas Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 SL is not my tea, GAga's album was mostly a skip for me
dreamofyou Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 SL is a bop, kinda aged, but kinda a bop
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 16, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 16, 2020 i wouldn't say it's top 3 material but i don't mind it
Ewan Chaos Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Stupid Love way overhated. Not my top 5 from the album but she gave the gays everything they should want and the gays are suddenly so picky all of the sudden? Like she could have given us Perfect Illusion again soooooooooo
Bubble Tea Posted December 16, 2020 Author Posted December 16, 2020 Love to see your comments STANNING "Stupid Love." Thanks gays. Spoiler On 12/15/2020 at 2:53 PM, potent said: I only listened to High Road and Chromatica and yeah, definitely wouldn't argue with them being on a flops/disappointing list lol Not a fan of Stupid Love though They belong on the list lol. Poor "Stupid Love" - don't you like to dance? On 12/15/2020 at 2:56 PM, Psycho said: SBP is far from the best on H&H nnn Stupid Love underrated and overhated What is the best? I heard people talking about "Naked" as if she did something but... she did not lol. On 12/15/2020 at 3:16 PM, Green said: I like Stupid Love but Chromatica has better songs IMO Does it though? Only "Rain on Me" is a contender in the bop department. Maybe "Babylon" too I guess but I got over it. It was obviously great lol - I admit when it first leaked and I gave it a sneaky lil listen I wasn't impressed but it was one of those songs when the video made me an EXTREME stan. On 12/16/2020 at 1:18 AM, Lazuli said: oh wow stupid love in your top 3? that’s brave Now I wouldn't say that. We all saw what a SMASH that recent "Did Stupid Love win in the long run?" or whatever it was thread. On 12/16/2020 at 3:02 AM, GreatestLoveofAll said: Hmmm Stupid Love top three? Veryyyy interesting, I was under the impression it was one of the less than favorable tracks off the album... in general. You were too busy listening to the OGH fuming about Gaga having a #1 in 2019 and 2020 with amazing pop singles while their fave was releasing weird cottage-core crap. On 12/16/2020 at 4:28 AM, TheWayWeWere said: omg I love some Stupid Love acclaim I always don't get the hate for it , it's amazing lead and banger Why anyone wouldn't be obsessed... I couldn't say. On 12/16/2020 at 5:35 AM, Staryu said: Stupid Love is so overhated, I don't get why, it is such a fun bop I think the OGH are just jealous their fave didn't release such a fun campy song with a sexy gay video. On 12/16/2020 at 10:20 AM, KasioKas said: SL is not my tea, GAga's album was mostly a skip for me I mean a lot of the album sucks so I feel you on that one. 23 hours ago, dreamofyou said: SL is a bop, kinda aged, but kinda a bop At least Gaga's career didn't age with a #1 album in 2020 and #1 song in 2019 and 2020 which is difficult to get, not everybody has that. 22 hours ago, Legend E said: i wouldn't say it's top 3 material but i don't mind it As long as you aren't hating on this fun little bop - we're good. 21 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: Stupid Love way overhated. Not my top 5 from the album but she gave the gays everything they should want and the gays are suddenly so picky all of the sudden? Like she could have given us Perfect Illusion again soooooooooo I didn't even know it wasn't loved until these comments. There's literally nothing not to love as far as I'm concerned. And yeah the last thing we want is anything resembling that horrific "Perfect Illusion" I remember my first listen being like " wtf gaga sis..." and that remains my reaction to this day. 90% of Joanne is a no from me. Smashes of 2020 - The year's most excellent albums Charli XCX - how I'm feeling now TBH any year-end album list without Charli XCX this year is fake news, fraudulent, deceptive and misleading because clearly no album tells the tale of how weird 2020 has been and described the feelings of this new word in our lexicon: "lockdown." For some reason all Charli XCX albums take a hot little minute to grow on me but when they do - they grow STRONG! Admittedly I'm more into hyperpop and bubblegum pop more so than most people and this album is most certainly hyperpop - it's noisy, shouty, abrasive but also with a sweet soul from a woman clearly feeling emotions in new ways, missing the world of the past and wondering when this god damn pandemic will come to an end. As she shouts in "Anthems:" "I want anthems, late nights, my friends, New York. Finally when it's over we might be even closer." And (aside from the New York bit) that's so how I felt in the second month of the New Zealand lockdown. Can I just say when, a few months ago I was at a gay club and they played this song, I was LIVING! For all of you still in a lockdown - may your silly countries get COVID-19 under control soon to enable you to do so. And for god sake wear a mask and stay the hell home! Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA So the only Rina song I used to know was "Cherry" which I always found a little annoying but it would not stop coming up on shuffle on Spotify so it eventually slightly grew on me - so I can't say I was that hyped when I saw she'd released a new album. However the gays on twitter wouldn't STFU about it so finally I was like "oh ffs who is this heaux" and needless to say the album opener "Dynasty" was a PUNCH in the guts (and we know how much gays love that). I love how epic and broad sweeping the lyrics are across generations "The pain in my veins is hereditary, dynasty, I feel it in my blood stream." Like UGH the symbolish, the meaning. I also (obvi) love "Comme des Garçons" (it's in my top 25 somewhere - "like the boys, like the boys") and I have a soft spot for the gorgeous but sad "Bad Friend." Katy Perry - Smile I'm so sick of seeing Smile slander when it's perfectly good, strong, well-crafted pop production with a number of really interesting melodies, some great lyrics, awesome imagery and that is in general a lot of fun. Is it THEE single most avant-garde moment of pop ever? No. Does that matter when the world has gone to hell in a hand basket and we could do with a bit of positivity, fun and happiness? Also no. Katy did what she did with the album. God knows what the plan was with the drip feed of "Never Really Over," "Small Talk," "Harleys in Hawaii," and that dreadful "Never Worn White" but alas it all came together eventually. I love the title track, I love songs like "Tucked", "Cry About It Later" (a god damn hymm) and the album closer "What Makes a Woman." It's actually an album full of gems when I think about - queen shit. Y'all stay doing the most. Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour Ok I know this album is like 2 years old but whatever - turns out there wasn't a lot of albums I was into this year. I was too busy listening to quick lil singles most of the time. For some reason I only bothered to see who and what Kacey this year around the lockdown period (March/April) and I can finally see why the album won AOTY - it's bloody damn good! The 1-2 punch of "Slow Burn" and "Lonely Weekend" phew! And then uplifting bop "Oh, What A World" and of course anthems "High Horse" and "Golden Hour" itself. Wow - she really did that, all whilst looking GORGEOUS. We have to stan Miss Musgraves. Reminds me I need to check out her new song with Troye. Britney Spears - Glory (Deluxe) I'm being messy now but oh well - I see this just came out on Spotify lol. Britney did what she had to do when she released Glory back in the day in 2016 and now her label is doing what it has to do to keep her name alive while she refuses to work (#FreeBritney ) with this Glory re-release. Obvi "Mood Ring" has always been a mood but it's nice now to have it on streaming along with the gorgeous little song "Swimming in the Stars" and "Matches" which I have yet to listen to. (I do this weird thing with songs I'm excited about it when I force myself to wait before listening to it - like saving a little treat for later. I just know I have days when I'm not in the mood for any music and then I remember I have a new Godney track to listen to!) Also the new Glory cover is one zillion times better than the original. (though I've just realised Spotify now has 3 different versions of the album - a mess.) Spoiler
dreamofyou Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 HIFN, smile and sawayama... your taste is immaculate
GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Smile? Hmmmm verrrryyyy interesting again. I didn't think you'd like it that much tbh, but then again im just now discovering what people like through these list. "What Makes A Woman" and "Daises" truly are the standout tracks for me- i refused to acknowledge Never Really Over as part of the album tho.
TalkThatRihanna Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 I did not expect Chromatica getting panned and Stupid Love getting praised nnn 100% agree about High Road & Rare. Such disappointments
potent Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 Golden Hour is a great album, glad you finally checked her out Plenty of ATRLers will appreciate Charli and Rina but I don't really listen to them they've both had decent songs in the past though
