Sunderland 4ever Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 (edited) I completely snubbed Kesha's album this year. Rainbow was good. I like the saxophone in the instrumentation. Edited December 13, 2020 by Sunderland 4ever
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 13, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 13, 2020 raising hell was kinda meh tbh
Bubble Tea Posted December 14, 2020 Author Posted December 14, 2020 Special post - I'm going to give some side-shout outs to my fave and least favourite albums of the year. Starting off with this year's most disappointing albums. Spoiler 17 hours ago, potent said: Raising Hell is cute, I think it just wasn't great as a lead cause it's kind of polarizing I mean it is a bit noisy and it took me a few listens to get into the groove but once I did... HALLE-LUJAH I'M STILL HERE, STILL BRINGING IT TO YA! 14 hours ago, Post Malone said: Raising Hell a bop, her best sing in a while For sure. A damn bop. Made me damn sure I knew Kesha still had an irreplaceable part in pop. 11 hours ago, Lazuli said: it was so lame compared to their other releases! maybe i was judging it on a kpop scale with a hot ass MV, tight choreo etc raising hell idk why atrl doesn't like it, it is SUCH a bop and the MV is a huge slay Nnn I guess "Ice Cream" is a bit lame but... whatever I still stan. And YAS at the MV love it's so cute! Kesha as a pastor... queen shit. 11 hours ago, geodancefreak said: Raising Hell is not it to me, but I am glad you enjoyed it, cause Kesha is super cute I'm glad you like her. She feels like a friend - I hate when people are mean to her. 10 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: Raising Hell wasn't my favorite from HR, but it was nice way to open the era video slays >>> Big Freedia tho... Ha the random inclusion of Big Freedia everywhere for a minute was pretty weird. But they're fun so... we stan. 8 hours ago, Psycho said: I liked Raising Hell but it aged for me Maybe you just aged out of the FRESH song. 8 hours ago, Remmy said: Raising Hell A fun bop, don't care what anyone says It certainly is a fun bop! People hate having fun. 7 hours ago, Madame X said: big freeda made raising hell fun def. i get the song, its supposed to be carefree and all. still not my fave kesha song tho It's super carefree - it's just an in-the-moment fun lil sing. "I don't wanna go to heaven without raising hell - yeow!" 5 hours ago, Valtersen said: Their loss Truly + honestly. 4 hours ago, dangerousalex said: I understood HOW raising hell, I did not understand WHY raising hell "Why"... because Kesha had to be all deep and meaningful on Rainbow and she got bored of that so now she's being Cannibal-era messy once again. 4 hours ago, BlackoutZone said: I always thought Tonight would have been a better lead idk why, but it's a better song to me! "Tonight" is equally amazing but I feel lyrically weaker. "Raising Hell" is just more fun - but both are euphoric (and in my top 25!) 4 hours ago, ARTPØP said: Raising Hell Stan. 1 hour ago, Sunderland 4ever said: I completely snubbed Kesha's album this year. Rainbow was good. I like the saxophone in the instrumentation. Omg don't snub it it's got some cute songs - the title track, "Resentment", "Tonight", "BFF." Bops. Lots of filler though too nn. 40 minutes ago, Legend E said: raising hell was kinda meh tbh Welp. A lot of people thought like this though so what can I say. It appealed to me as a hardcore Kesha stan. Flops of 2020 - The year's most disappointing albums Lady Gaga - Chromatica Look - it's a Gaga album so my expectations are set really high. I know she is capable of cutting through the pop landscape and is always the most avant-garde, cutting edge artist when she wants to be and so when I was treated to the double-whammy that was "Stupid Love" and "Rain on Me" I was ready for a really hot, smash album but alas what I was fed.... was not it. I kinda find the interludes kind of annoying lol. They're not fun like on Lorde's Melodrama or bops like on Kim Petras' Turn off the Light - I found them boring. But yeah, the tracks just didn't go off for me. "Alice"s lyrics were a mess, I found "Free Woman" and "Fun Tonight" to be boring filler. "Plastic Doll" a repetitive mess, "Sour Candy" a song about nothing and I didn't really like "Sine from Above" or "1000 Doves" so... yeah. Wasn't it sorry. I'll stick to my Born This Way and ARTPOP spins. PERFECT cover art though. Selena Gomez - Rare Look Selena - you got me REAL hyped with the absolute BANGERS you were spitting out 2018-2019 (or whenever it was) with "Bad Liar" and "Fetish" and the bangers with Benny Blanco and whoever that "Wolves" song was with (oh and obviously "Taki Taki") bit then the album... wasn't really it. Sure it had some moments like "Look at her Now", the title track, "Vulnerable" etc. But for the most part... dull garbage. C'mon girl, the most followed girl on IG (I think) can surely get better stuff. We know that Revival inspired Britney, god help us if Rare inspires whatever she next does. Kesha - High Road Look I know I have just spent a lot of time in this Best of 2020 raving about the album - cause the highs are as the road upon which Kesha is travelling, but my god there are some basic songs on this album. It starts so strong but then dull things like "Shadow" sneak in and it starts getting wobbly, and then a whole lot of crap comes along like "Cowboy Blues", "Potato Song" (which I get isn't serious - but she's done this kinda track before and at least they were fun, this.... ) and "Summer" which should go off just... doesn't. Love the album cover though. Ava Max - Heaven & Hell I'm not exactly a big Ava stan but I did expect her big debut album to be a smash - especially when her lead debut single was so damn strong ("Sweet but Psycho") however I found nothing of interest on this album really. Plus the cover art is basic and ATROCIOUS! Get it together sis. Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B I know it's kinda mean to put this here but... this Side B should have been Side Z. Is there anything redeeming on here? E•MO•TION Side B had some outstanding songs on it that really showed she was overflowing with brilliant ideas that had to be cut but here it's like... oh I see. You were grasping to put the album together. Ugh I feel MEAN but these B-Sides just weren't it for me. Maybe I need to give it another listen.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 14, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2020 side b had a few good songs: lets sort the whole thing out, summer love, window, mona lisa. but yeah, at this point that sound is DONE from carly, and we could all tell we're over it from the reaction. tbh, ava surpassed my expectations with h&h. not that they were high or anything tho
Staryu Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 You made some points, I did enjoy parts of all those albums but there was alot of dull moments and filler on each of those albums as well. Dedicated Side B really disappointed me because Emotion Side B was so fun and enjoyable (for me).

GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 I personally loved Chromatica, surprised to see it on so many panned list. "Replay" and "Enigma" alone are top tier 2020 tracks, but i respect your take on it.
geodancefreak Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Kinda agree about the rest, but Chromatica is one of my favs of the year :(
dreamofyou Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 heaven & hell did kinda age, but still full of bops
Lazuli Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 chromatica :’( a pity the shadow and summer slander no sis no!!!! dedicated side b was good...
TheWayWeWere Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 nnnn Chromatica was actually one of my favorites of the year era was a bit disappointing tho droplets >>>> Rare (song) >>>> Rare album High Road is very shaky and messy, but I actually like almost every track on it
Ewan Chaos Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Yeah Raising Hell is kinda underrated. I actually preferred the song that was Big Freeida feat. Kesha even though it's like SUPER basic nnn. Bad Liar was such a tease from Selene I liked her song with Kygo too, but I thought that Wolves song was annoying but blamed it on Marshmallo because it was really the production that sucked. Maybe I should have blamed Selena more... I like Chromatica way more than ARTPOP but at least you gave the Bayonetta-inspired album cover praise! I like Dedicated Side B too but... yeah it's lowkey unnecessary. Funny enough I have more hope for upcoming Carly releases after Let's Be Friends/Me and the Boys in the Band because she's experimenting a tiny bit more and not just doing retreads. For now, I'll continue to spam Emotion & Dedicated (side A for both)
Wicked Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 The way Chromatica & Rare have been getting dragged in y'alls lists
Bubble Tea Posted December 14, 2020 Author Posted December 14, 2020 Thanks for your comments! Always appreciate them. Probably Ava tbh too - both only got one listen from me but certainly wasn't enough to lure me back. 22 hours ago, Staryu said: You made some points, I did enjoy parts of all those albums but there was alot of dull moments and filler on each of those albums as well. I just think Gaga could do and has done better. Not much is catchy for me. 12 hours ago, dreamofyou said: heaven & hell did kinda age, but still full of bops I think I might give it another listen. 12 hours ago, Post Malone said: Chromatica and Rare You know I was dragging them right? Lol. 10 hours ago, Lazuli said: chromatica :’( a pity the shadow and summer slander no sis no!!!! dedicated side b was good... Shadow and Summer are bad tracks! Nothing catchy or repeat-listenable about them. 5 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: nnnn Chromatica was actually one of my favorites of the year era was a bit disappointing tho droplets >>>> Rare (song) >>>> Rare album High Road is very shaky and messy, but I actually like almost every track on it I didn't exactly expect much given the world is literally in a giant pandemic so like I think she worked with what she could. She definitely was a bit slack on social media though it's like let's promote hunny. I LOVED the VMA performance though and we got three amazing videos so like... we haven't suffered that much. 3 hours ago, Ewan Chaos said: Yeah Raising Hell is kinda underrated. Such a great sound and style and then everythign was trash since. And yeah that Marshmallo thing is pretty bad but... IDK, I guess it got blasted into my ears so often it grew on me. Obvi it's basic trash. Chromatica cover is amazing but the musique... less so lol. 1 hour ago, Wicked said: The way Chromatica & Rare have been getting dragged in y'alls lists They're just not as excellent as they should be. These gals have every producer and hit maker at their disposal! And yet so few hits?? Weird. 29 minutes ago, KasioKas said: Drag Ava & Carly I did. 3. Stupid Love - Lady Gaga Ok I know I just dragged Chromatica over all but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a few SUPREME tracks - none more holy and worthy of praise than “Stupid Love.” Honestly - a bop is a bop is a bop and this fellow gays, middle-child bis, confused straights and ladies stealing gay culture (who stole it from black culture) as an identity, is indeed a god damn bop. When I first heard the leaked track I was a bit like ummm but then with the video it finally all made sense - it’s POP CULTURE. It’s TECHNOLOGY. It’s FASHION. It’s SEXY! Like what more could you want from a Lady Gaga lead single than this? She looks f-ing good, the costumes are amazing, there’s endless intense choreo, a cool setting, CGI, special effects like… she really snapped. She knew we’d been waiting LITERALLY since 2013 for a real pop moment and finally we got it.
potent Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 I only listened to High Road and Chromatica and yeah, definitely wouldn't argue with them being on a flops/disappointing list lol Not a fan of Stupid Love though
Psycho Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 SBP is far from the best on H&H nnn Stupid Love underrated and overhated
Green Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 I like Stupid Love but Chromatica has better songs IMO
Sunderland 4ever Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 I'm somewhere in the middle with Stupid Love.I guess it was alright.
geodancefreak Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 I'm living for the Stupid Love praise
Lazuli Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 oh wow stupid love in your top 3? that’s brave
GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Hmmm Stupid Love top three? Veryyyy interesting, I was under the impression it was one of the less than favorable tracks off the album... in general.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 omg I love some Stupid Love acclaim I always don't get the hate for it , it's amazing lead and banger
