literally have no clue why everyone seems to have switched on this, the second half could be a bit livelier but it's still very good all the way through (if we're ignoring EG.0 ofc). She renewed my faith in her with this album, I was BEYOND over her with all those terrible singles since Still Falling For You :toofunny3: Power was what got me excited for the album and I think it remains my fave but Tides, New Heights and Love I'm Given are all amazing too :smitten: Woman is easily the weakest but it's not bad, just a lil boring. Hate Me grew on me randomly and Slow Grenade is v underrated but I didn't include those in the ranking anyway :fan:

1. Power

2. Tides

3. New Heights

knew this would be an AOTY contender after Spotlight dropped :smitten: I think I had it in my top 3 at some point. She didn't disappoint at all, plenty of standouts with the album tracks like Read My Lips (v underrated), the title track, The Kill and Step Into My Life :smitten: lemme say that Save A Kiss, Soul Control and Remember Where You Are are all great but quite overrated :-* if we get more mature-sounding disco albums like this next year I wouldn't complain :duca:

1. Spotlight

2. Read My Lips

3. What's Your Pleasure?

#8

G9llzXF.png

she won the disco trend yup yup, not only the best k-pop album of the year by a large margin but also the best 80s album :smitten: only just noticed that the lead singles are my faves from the last 4 albums :fan: the whole album is essentially standout after standout except A Day For Love which drops the ball but Pit-a-Pet comes right after and :WAP: the interludes are super cute as well. I hope she releases sumn next year now that she's left her company :dancehall: listen to this if you like WYP? or Future Nostalgia, you won't regret it :-*

1. Neon

2. Shade

3. Soul Lady

ahhhh what an ALBUM, while everyone was doing 80s disco she went back to early 00's pop rock but made it GOOD :jonny5: some of the singles gave off Mean Girls soundtrack vibes but the album as a whole was more alternative with a hint of Mitski :lakitu: I rated this quite high initially but after going back to it recently I had to move it into my top 10, especially after Emo Song HIT me and became one of my faves :smitten: lots of the songs ended up being growers in the end, Together is another one  How Was Your Day? is my least fave but it's v cute I think, I've gotten used to it

1. Worth It

2. Emo Song

3. Together

#6

aPBfvlE.png

had this at #1 for ages and then out of the top 10 after the deluxe but I've decided to ignore those songs :oh: the original album gave me everything I wanted :jonny5: love this sound for her, I thought I was getting bored of the metal verses/pop chorus shite she was putting out but she switched it up for the album, might wanna move on for the next album if the deluxe songs are any indication tho :keir: love the more electronic sounding songs like Sit / Stay and Bloodmoney (Grammy nominated song!!!!!) especially :WAP: Don't Go Outside kinda predicted our current predicament huh :fan: grew on me A LOT. Nothing I Need is easily the weakest but again, I wouldn't even consider it filler x

1. Sit / Stay

2. BLOODMONEY

3. Bite Your Teeth

#5

IDHm30j.png

heard this ages ago when it first leaked, STILL waiting on Kick ii like we were promised and I hope it leaks again cause she's pulling a Sophie/Grimes :fan: this may be more basic and boppy than her previous efforts but idc idc, it's amazing all the way through :WAP: I had listened to self-titled after and it was lovely but I prefer this  Arca was SO generous to give Rosalia her only good song other than Malamente, and it's SOTY material at that :smitten: the Björk feature lowkey a disappointment but it's a lovely song still, Shygirl outsold  the ballads on this are really good too :jonny5:

1. KLK

2. Mequetrefe

3. Machote

#4

NYdnT1d.png

this is an EXPERIENCE :jonny5: love the aesthetics and sound of the era in general :smitten: i KNEW she'd serve ever since Selene came out, one of my fave songs of the year easily, the production is insane :WAP: Lose was a bit snoozy for a single but it works really well on the album. I will say that on first listen I was quite underwhelmed but every song grew on me so much, even the Ari reject Nightcrawlers which lowkey outsold all of positions :oh: Tide and Wide Open give me Billie teas, I just wish that Tide were a proper song cause it sounds interlude-y. Part 3 is easily my fave  Plot Twist has stunning verses and a serviceable chorus :-* the last 2 songs are gorgist and will always remind me of Red Dead Redemption 2 now cause I was playing that when this came out :keir:

1. Selene

2. Plot Twist

3. Drive On

#3

HxlgRKM.png

her BEST album by far :smitten: I'll admit that this started off around 8.0 but grew on me IMMENSELY over the last few months, really paved the way for me to love evermore album instantly :fan: that illicit affairs -> mad woman section perhaps stops it from being my absolute favorite album of the year and I feel that overall the first half is a lot stronger  but still, I adore epiphany and betty, also peace is cute. august might also be Taylor best song ever, this album in general has so many 10s that I would say are among her best like the 3 listed below, exile, my tears ricochet and epiphany :smitten: Jack really snapped on his songs, hope he produced one of the bonus tracks on evermore :jonny2:

1. august

2. this is me trying

3. the 1

#2

CW7SPle.png

this album release was wild :rip: I kept changing my expectations but the singles were all SO underwhelming to the point that I wasn't even excited for it to come in January. Then You should be sad came and completely blew me away, one of her best songs ever :smitten: Initially I was very disappointed with the album but after I had some time with it and saw her live right before lockdown, I started to love every song :chick3: even clementine which I absolutely despised grew from like a 3/10 to maybe an 8? it's definitely more of a tour song but I really appreciate it now. Graveyard still basic and overrated tho  doesn't feel right to have this at #1 cause I know I'm very biased towards Halsey, this is her first time not getting AOTY actually :fan: so yeah, big grower and easily her most experimental album, she needs to give us rock bops for the next one :duca:

1. You should be sad

2. killing boys

3. Ashley

#1

kic6Sr6.png

another album I had a feeling would slap before it came out, the first 2 singles were okay at first but worked v well in the context of the album and I ended up loving them but XS is what got me really hyped :jonny2: loved this straight away and knew it would at the very least be an AOTY contender. Can't think of any other album this year that I'd place up here, at least half the tracklist is 11/10s :smitten: Chosen Family had to step in and drag her score down a bit but I pretend it doesn't exist :fan: I've always loved Bad Friend but only recently I've realised it's my favorite, could literally be a UK hit if they pushed it :chick3: deserved a better video btw. Also Tokyo Love Hotel is severely overrated, it's probably in my bottom half :toofunny3: other than the songs I've already mentioned, I stan Love Me 4 Me, Akasaka Sad and Snakeskin as well

1. Bad Friend

2. Who's Gonna Save U Now?

3. XS

poppy, yukika, arca, and jessie top 10 :jonny:

i feel like we (maybe another person im forgetting sorry to u) were the only ones to like poppy in the best of sections and got dragged for it but WHO IS LAUGHING NOW, WE WON!

wait, what happened with yukika's label???

your top 3 on jessie ware isn't mine, but is probably better thna most peoples so :-*

and as for your #1, its a good pick.  there are about 3-4 songs i do NOT like on it, but i can't deny that the rest is ****ing quality and a signature unique style to rina that works, so i accept it!

yeah, those are my thoughts.  can't wait for songs!

Posted

Ellie um chile anyways so - actually New Heights was my favorite from that album and it's your top 3 so I guess I'll give you that.

JESSIE WARE TOP 10 HOYEAH. Not my top 3 being overrated :deadbanana: Remember Where You Are is NOT overrated! The other two yes, but they're talent!

nnn is Soul Lady disco???? Either way, YAAAAS YUKIKA SLAY. beabadoobee (I hate that stage name btw) had a pretty dang great album actually, I just didn't listen to it enough to have a huge year-end opinion of it outside of the slay of Care.

Shygirl DID outsell Bjork on KiCk i finally someone said it. Honestly, this is the only Arca album I've ever listened to (I hated her production on Utopia which is trash and I always said LP1 was overrated nnn) so this was a huge surprise for me to enjoy it so much

Niki too high, but Selene being the top song pick is correct.

Sawayama is a really cute #1 pick! You are right at Tokyo Love Hotel being disgustingly overrated (she can leave that kind of pop sound to Carly, thanks), and I love your #2 and #3 but Bad Friend being your top pick um okay.

now that folklore grew on me, the top 3 snaps :jonny5:

brightest blue was meh, WYP masterpiece

Posted

what a top 10 :jonny5:

Ellie surprising everyone with her album :jonny: Jessie releasing 4th masterpiece in a row :jonny: Taylor making one of her best album :clap3: Halsey finally getting some love :clap3: Rina slaying on top :alexz:

Posted

Rina and Jessie

Taylor, uh great gowns, beautiful gowns (though I do like The 1 so I'll give her that)

Didn't much care for Halsey but You should be sad is solid, gotta give her that much :clap3:

Also:

13. Kali Uchis - Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞: 8.6 (gonna have to disagree with what you said about Isolation, one of it's strength is how diverse it was in it's sound (at least for me))

15. Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia: 8.6

16. Tame Impala - The Slow Rush: 8.6 (glad to see someone else that doesn't think this bombed :jonny2:)

19. The Weeknd - After Hours: 8.5

Love to see these in your top 20 :gaycat6:

brightest blue could've been a huge mess but thank god ellie's last shred of talent pulled thru :clap3:

what's your pleasure? :alexz: excellence all around

arca wtf i did not expect to see this here in your top 10

manic is fine which is a huge improvement over her previous albums

folklore :jonny5: yaaaaaas stan sis

SAWAYAMA AHHHHH BITCH UR TASTE RINA DID THAT YAAAS

Posted

Brightest Blue is good, Fake It Flowers also good but needs some more listens, I remember liking Charlie Brown and Dye It Red a lot

Jessie we stan of course, The Kill is amazing

I don't really check for Taylor but I gave Folklore a try, some songs I like and others are just kinda boring, Exile and August are great though

Posted

Sawayama is indeed a flawless album! :jonny6:

WYP is also a very very very very good record!

Posted

Yukika that high wow it's what she deserved, a fantastic album :jonny5:

surprised to see the NIKI album in the top 10! Switchblade is a moment but the other songs are so basic, one of the biggest disappointments of the year for me :dancehall:

folklore is a masterpiece! I really don't like taylor but that album is absolutely fantastic! I was blown away the first time I listened to it!

sawayama at #1 is acceptable, while I do love the album a lot, I think it aged a bit :fan: who's gonna save u now being your second favorite track on the album :heart2:

Posted

I love Rina's album - well deserved :clap3:

Also love What's Your Pleasure

This batch is pure perfection :jonny5:

Posted

Amazing top 2 for the albums :gaycat6: Manic is so good which is shocking to me because I never though Halsey had it in her to serve another cohesive body of work after HFK (which was arguably all over the place, but still a great album)

XS is easily one of the best songs of the year, so I’m glad she’s getting her recognition with Sawayama :clap3:

Salute and Get Weird were definitely better :keir:

:biblio:

FN is so low!

SAWAYAMA number 1! :clap3::clap3::clap3:

GREAT top 3

Posted

What's Your Pleasure? and Folklore. Awesome picks. :clap3:

Posted

Brightest Blue is good, #10 is a bit high though! EG.0 is actually kinda overhated. Manic could've been stronger but it was obviously gonna be very high on your list :gaycat3: folklore  Highly disagree with it being her best album, especially by FAR. WYP?, I Disagree and SAWAYAMA absolutely :clap3: :clap3: :clap3: "lemme say that Save A Kiss, Soul Control and Remember Where You Are are all great but quite overrated" kiii that's almost my top 3. The Poppy deluxe tracks aren't bad! Power, Tides, WYP?, BLOODMONEY, Bite Your Teeth, august, this is me trying, Bad Friend getting some love :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Posted

From the top 10 my favorites are folklore, Brightest Blue, What's Your Pleasure?, Manic  :clap3:

Posted

Folklore wbk

Manic deserves whew :jonny5:

Posted

Oh wow :keir:

Brightest Blue - I don't think I love it as much as you do, but it's definitely heavily underrated and I also consider it a comeback to form :clap3:Great top 3 too

WYP - deserved top 3 if you decided to snub FN from the top 10 and again - AMAZING top 3 :clap3:

Soul Lady - easily KPOP aoty and one of the best Korean projects of all time, amazing top 3 as well

I Disagree - kii I remembered you stanned it and I have to say it's definitely better than I expected it to be, but I rarely touch it for some reason

Kick I - did not expect that here  It definitely has a few solid stand outs, but outside of them there is not much for me

Moonchild - gowns!

folklore - her best album I agree, she really shocked many of us. Sad it only worked the first time and evermore is just there

Manic - I'm gonna say nuthin

and finally Sawayama, can't say I expected it to be your AOTY, but I'm not mad. It's obviously a great record, but overtime I started to appreciate it less. It blew me away on first listen, I was astonished by the variety she served while keeping it cohesive, but the more I listened to it the lack of actual consistency started to bother me and the highlights started to get tired. It's definitely a step back from RINA EP which was pretty perfect start to finish. However XS, Snakeskin, Takyo Takeover, Dynasty are all gigantic serves :clap3:

Rina stomped :gaycat6:

will get started on the song list tomorrow but lemme post my updated EP list that now includes Tei Shi and Yung Baby Tate :gaycat6:
