SLIME Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 6. Charli XCX f/ Big Freedia, Brooke Candy, Cupcakke & Pabllo Vittar - "Shake It" Like I'm sorry but this is insanity. I've seen that people will have wildly different thoughts on this song. I guess enjoying it is sort of a litmus test for how far you're willing to go in terms of club music and experimental hip hop. For me, I think it says a lot about Charli's talent for collaboration where the song she does the least on still ends up such a wild, nasty and 2099 ride. Everyone featured here absolutely came to EAT, and leave a lasting impression. Really baller track. Wow.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 4, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 4, 2020 shake it should be higher.
smholiv Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 BAGS. Bags is my SOTY of 2019 so i'm really happy it made your top ten
Ewan Chaos Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Shake It is a ****ing FLAWLESS SONG. I gotta say that I Got It I prefer MORE because I think Pablo's part in Shake It is a tiiiiiiny bit lazy whereas she kills it in IGI. I don't care though, Shake It is easily top... 2 from that album?
mokitsu Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Immunity was lowkey great the girls ignored it though

I think JT, Miami and Lil Yachty's ("secret") contributions here are all quite endearing in different ways. Really nice beat that just hits a good tone for me. An obvious party-starter that we can already see influencing the new scene (on songs produced by Juicy J and Skrillex, both featuring the vocal talents of Ty Dolla $ign). Definitely one of the highest-energy big chart hits of that year. Talent won here

Love house music, but it doesn't always come packaged into neat LP format, so it's nice to find albums like those.

Tom Vercetti Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Shake It isn't my fave from her self-titled but I certainly get the appeal for it. Pretty memorable and did what it was suppose to do. Interesting take on Act Up as well .
TheWayWeWere Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Shake It is an absolute banger I hope she trends to do more all-female collab in future
Pink Matter Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Gonna check out that Uzi track. I was planning to listen to Eternal Atake but then he dropped the deluxe that made it like an hour and a half long... Haven't heard the others but I'll give them a spin
SLIME Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 My top 10 songs of 2019 (continued!) 5. Dua Lipa - "Don't Start Now" Before this era was even rolled out, the lead single "Don't Start Now" exemplified the Future Nostalgia concept perfectly: classic pop songwriting tropes updated with a studio sheen that only the present could offer. She's proved me and a lot of others wrong this year. Shoutout to the #girlboss songwriting team that brought this concept to life - the arrangement makes this song pop off the page for me, so to speak. And I think Dua continued coming into her own as a vocalist on this one too. So it's a number of things that made this stand out as high-grade material compared to what usually makes the pop chart; it's (rightfully) hung around with a lot of staying power through 2020.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 6, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 6, 2020 i like the title track from her 2019 releasaes, but dsn has grown on me a LOT. i can't believe i used to think it was one of the weakest on the album
SLIME Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 4. Caroline Polachek - "Door" My compliment of "Door": I think this song sets a high bar with the title, and goes on to completely succeed/pass those expectations. It does feel like something with the power to take you somewhere else; between Caroline's otherworldly vocals, the video's surreal transformations, and the repetition of that obvious key word. I'll obv be coming back to this for a long time. Seriously watch the vid if you haven't seen
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 6, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 6, 2020 door isn't high enough. glad you agree that its better than so hot... can't believe people prefer so hot. jail, for all of them!
TheWayWeWere Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Live In LA remix should've been main version tbh Door is flawless
SLIME Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 Just now, TheWayWeWere said: Live In LA remix should've been main version tbh Door is flawless It's a hard line to walk because I think the main version is almost studio pop perfection. But after hearing Live in LA, you realize it also could have been something more. I feel a little bit like I do with "no tears left to cry" where I REALLY wish the main version included the intro from the video.
BlackoutZone Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 I was staying quiet, cause Im the minority that hates Shake It on its own and I would not listen to it just like that... but when I saw her life and Shake It came on we all just lost it whew. But now you posted 2x SOTDs back to back. Glad you added Live in LA, cause it's literally a rare example of a song going beyond perfection just when you thought it couldn't. I still think FN title track is Dua's best song to date and I don't think she will top it for me in a while, but DSN is just as good. And Door is literally exactly like you described it, transcendental.
