I also think the title track is a little underrated; it's cute! That Victoria cut is a great one as well.

I share the same feeling about The Goold Place... I feel like it ended on a boring note that no one will think about 10 years from now. It's like a rehash of Parks And Rec in the way they rewarded every character with their ultimate happy ending or whatever during the finale. It's basically a quirky show with an interesting premise that ended up trying so hard to appeal to their audience who share the show's gifs on twitter that it just became a collection of corny catchphrases, especially with the Maya Rudolph character. It's like she was especially designed to say some **** like "The earth is cancelled y'aall" for folks on twitter to share it's weird...

Never finished Feud but i'll always enjoy the way Big Little Lies ended up overshadowing it back when they were released at the same time lol

I kinda disagree on Westworld hihi! You might say it's confusing, i say it's ambitious :eli: Though you're absolutely right about Maeve, they have truly ruined her character and i blame Evan Rachel Wood for it but whatever

Haven't seen Hollywood and i doubt i will... It's weird to me is how Murphy is now releasing some boring content with his Netflix money, where's the shock value???

I never though of Maya's character like that & now that you mention it i'm super annoyed because you're absolutely right!

Why do you blame Evan? Is there drama behind the scenes I don't know about or is it just that you think the writers give her character too much attention?

I never considered this but is Delores technically the 'main' character?? Because I never thought of her as that until literally this season... :katie:

15. Chilombo (Deluxe) - Jhené Aiko

Jhen%C3%A9_Aiko_-_Chilombo.png

I've always been a casual fan of Jhené, her chill vibe is underrated and her voice is actually really pleasant. Her runs can be intricate and she always seems passionate about what she's singing whether it be love or heartbreak. She's also such a terrfic writer, her lyrics on every single track are never cringe or repetitive or uninteresting. This album, in my opinion, is one of her best :alexz3:. Though excessively long, it's still cohesive and you end up finding favourites to listen to separately or just letting the album play from start to finish and enjoying the vibe she creates with her art. I personally love sexy, unfiltered Jhené and my fave song from her was 'Maniac' and she more than delivered on providing me more to bop too. She's brutally honest on every track, about exes, or herself, or what she wants. She's savage at times, gentle at others. I'm so pleased it's been nominated AOTY at the Grammy's, it's a surprise because they usually ignore RnB artists but it is deserved. I think alot of people saw the track length and opted out, but if you're a real music/RnB lover and trust Jhene, go on this journey, you may enjoy it as much as I have and continue too..

Her collab with John Legend was also Grammy nominated and I remember considering it the best collab on the album because they sound really well together and he matches her energy and style on this song, along with having her sister on 'On The Way', an extension of my favourite song on the album 'P*$$Y Fairy (OTW)', she literally took the best song and made it better I-:WAP:

14. Hot Pink - Doja Cat

Doja_Cat_-_Hot_Pink.png

I've always said I'm not a rapper but find myself including female rappers on my list every year. Usually the more popish type of rap songs. Doja came out of nowhere (at least to me) and blew up in no time. Her cadence and style is fun and engaging, and ths album was such a great one to listen to even if you're not into rap music because there's more than enough for pop fans to dive into. Her music videos are always top notch as are her live performances. She clearly puts in the effort and it's appreciated. That rock style performance of 'Say So' was such a face crack moment for me and I loved every little second of it:jonny5::jonny5: I haven't come across a rapper who also sings this well and the way she's able to switch it up is awesome, some are clearly pop songs, but there are others that clearly lean more to rap, the balance is perfect. She's definitely one of my favourite artists now and I can't wait to see how she progresses with her next album, I really hope she keeps an element of pop in there and continues to sing, but her bars as a rapper are always well written and never a let down.

13. Jaguar - Victoria Monét

jaguar_victoria%20monet.jpg

After 'Life After Love' I had hoped for a full album, but alas she continues to drop EPs in parts. How annoying! I would much rather have preferred one full release, because continously working on part 2 when part 1 is now out means that part 2 may sound completely different and not work as a cohesive final piece. That said, Victoria has improved in every way possible from her last project, except maybe vocally.. hear me out.. lyrically this EP is far superior to the others, it's clever, sexy & straightforward. The only exception being the very cringey "We picking fights like it's fortnite" lyric which is one of the worst lyrics on the year. Production wise the instrumentals are more interesting and often a highlight of the track. Vocally however, it's much of the same; soft vocals, a few harmonies here and there, nothing wildly interesting but certainly still pleasing. She also penned for Chloe & Halle, Ariana Grande & Brandy this year and all tracks were highlights on their respective albums as well! As a writer she truly has stepped her game up, and I hope she continues to improve with her own work as well as push her vocals to new heights or give us some more interesting ad libs/harmonies.

11. Ungodly Hour - Chloe x Halle

chloexhalle_1290_1290.jpeg

I ranked their album in 2018 #18 and called it eerie and haunting but very well sung and they definitly leaned in and claimed the sound as their own. It's really cool that they had their own unique sound to early on, the almost opera-esque singing is odd but I kinda like it? I appreciate that they also kinda change it out when singing iver lyrics where the sound may not make sesne, like sexier lyrics. Chloe's lower tone is so very appealing to me and I enjoyed hearing it again. I will say, if I had one critic about the album it was that the lyrics were a bit kid-friendly, but ofcourse given their age it was fitting. I love that they've matured and showcased that in their art on this album, not fully but just enough. I don't care for the play on angels/demons but that's a person thing.

Recommend: Do It  //  Ungodly Hour  //  Busy Boy

10. Solitude - EP - Tori Kelly

d76f3ce5c4befca6a5511b2ad2b81673.1000x1000x1.png

Tori surprised us with an EP that's more RnB esque, including a cover of a Drake song, but somehow it works? Her soft yet intricate voice over rnb beats was a nice change, as her last album was great vocally but a little on the boring side if i'm being honest for certain tracks. Once again thugh, vocals are center stage and the runs.. :jonny:the harmonies.. :jonny5:the high notes.. :jonny4:This girl can SING and I will never get enough! 'Don't Take Me Home' in particular is one of the best songs i've ever heard from her and one of the best in her discography. The lyrics are beautiful and the emotion and high notes are breathtaking!! My jaw dropped at how high she went. Few can hit notes that high so effortlessly on track and live performances! The control is insane I still raise it to this day! The EP was the perfect palate cleanser and a tiny risk as a take on a slightly different sound but still safe.., I really want her to continue here and give us more vocals and certainly more interesting production!! Her writing game as usual is pretty great as well and especially 'Glad' is a great track she penned herself about her happy new marriage, good for her!

Recommend: Don't Take Me Home  //  Value  //  Unbothered

09. Confetti - Little Mix

Little_Mix_-_Confetti.png

First of all let me just say.. Jesy leaving the group is HORRIBLE. Her voice is the most ineteresting to me! Her low notes are always a highlight of every single song, her tone is odd but in a VERY pleasing way. I ALWAYS say hers and Sam Smith's voices are amongst my favourite in music easily. I'm really scared of hearing new music without her if they continue as a group! :shakeno::shakeno:

Anyway, this is easily the best album they've released in years. It's one of the best pop albums of the year. There are so many good songs on this album, I feel like they're catering to kid-friendly lyrics a lot less than previous albums, and overall the beats and samples were great choices for some of these songs! Honestly, I always have a few songs on a LM album that I mostly skip as the album gets older, but so far i'm still enjoying this as a whole! Some of the best songs of their career are on this, and i'm not even sure what's changed other than maybe new management and more control over what they do? It's such a shame that Jesy is now leaving when they're on such a high, several singles can come out of this if they play their cards right. 'Sweet Melody' should have been a lead single, the music video was FANTASTIC and the energy from the chorus and awesome lyrics, I can find literally nothing wrong with that song. So many people that i've seen liste to this go "wow this was like a 1-2-3-4 punch" because it's just hit after hit. They turned the dial to an 11 energy wise and very rarely brought it back down, and that was very wise. I'm really rooting for them as a group but Jesy's voice will DEFINITELY be missed by me and I hope we see more of her after sometime away from the spotlight, if that is what she says she needs/wants. This is why we can't have nice things.. because of haters on the internet..:shakeno:

Recommend: Sweet Melody  //  If You Want My Love  //  Happiness

08. SAWAYAMA - Rina Sawayama

Sawayama-album-cover.jpg

I kept seeing this girl's album cover everywhere online with people praising it and decided to give it a shot. I still remember hearing the album for the 1st time and thinking "what the hell is this!??" because it was an ever-changing genre cluster-f**k where I never got a chance to sink in and predict what the album is going to sound like before it switched again.. but.. THAT'S BRILLIANT :clap3:. It's a great change of pace - pun intended - from usual artist releases and still somehow works as a cohesive album. There's rock, RnB, 2000s pop, dance-pop - they're high energy, ballads, mid-tempos. There's a song on this album for almost anyone. It's a risk and it pays off wonderfully. Vocally I'm surprised at how huge her range is, 'Who's Gonna Save U Now' which.. I will write a thesis on when it appears on my song list, is quite literally a perfect song, and vocally the highs she achieves here is so awesome, honestly it's easily the best on the album, it radiates energy and is just bada** as f**k :jonny6:, the high run along with the instrument on 'Dynasty' or the eerie slow vibrato vocal on the intro of 'Snakeskin' all pulled off extremely well. Rina is easily one of my fave artists of the year and I knew nothing of her last year, her being exempted from the BRIT awards & Grammy's is CRIMINAL because this massive risk should have been rewarded! Even the legend Elton John went out of his way to praise the album as one of the best of the year he had heard so far. It truly deserves nothing but praise and I have no idea where she's going next with her sound as she appears to have many to show us, but i'm REALLY excited to find out!!

I also can't wait to check out her previous work! I want to delve into her whole discography now because she's really, REALLY impressed me.

07. Love Goes - Sam Smith

love%20goes_sam%20smith.jpg

Sam finally took a risk this past year, releasing more up-tempo music.. deciding to dance to heartbreak rather than sing ballads of it primarily. Though I love the ballads that are always expertly written, personal and vocally vulnerable on previous albums, this was such a welcome surprise with the release of 'Dancing With a Stranger' and 'How Do You Sleep', both of which made my top 20 last year, the latter being #7! I feared that due to Covid and the massive album delay that they would erase those from the final project, and i'm PISSED to learn they're only bonus tracks, BUT the final album is still terrific! I don't even know how to rank it amongst their others because I love them all so much! I have such a weird fascination for Sam's voice, there's something about it that's so sexy to me, even when they sings sadly, it's so f**king appealing. Hearing them continue to try the up-tempo instrumentals/production with tracks 'Diamonds' & 'So Serious' and especially 'Dance (‘Til You Love Someone Else)' allows them to use more expression in their voice, going for more highs; it's nice to hear them linger in their upper register. That said, the ballads continue to be really, really well written and vulnerable, continuing to give us glimpses into their life, their tendencies, their misfortunes, their heartbreak and how we copes. 'Love Goes' the song, 'Kids Again' & 'Young' are standouts because they're pleasant to listen to for both lyrics and their voice, and once again their slow calming voice makes you sad for them but understand completely what they're singing about. Sam is one of my favourite artists and i'm so glad they're more honest with themself and living freely in their own world without much restraint. This is yet another feather in their cap as a terrific album deserving of praise.

06. The S(ex) Tapes - FLETCHER

28b5595f1dab460bc573ecead3efda50.1000x1000x1.jpg

Discovered this artist late this year from a EP youtube reaction video from Reacts By Ash. I heard the songs and thought "wow these are really good??".. and then I heard how the EP was made... FLETCHER literally broke up with her ex girlfriend, quaratined with them, wrote an EP about it and had the ex shoot the music videos for it!!! How bizzzare is that :ahh: But honestly going into the album knowing that gives you a specific perception of it that one might not have listening to it without that knowledge. I can't imagine writing what turns out to be really well written lyrics about an ex who's in the next room that you're focred to live with due to a global pandemic!?? Talk about vulnerability and honesty!? The EP is FANTASTIC from beginning to end, literally every song is great, lyrically and honest. Like Jhené, FLETCHER balances the line between heartbreak and sex/wanting them back really well. On one song she's 'Bitter' and savagely belting her anger and in ''Sex (With My Ex)' she's doubting herself and falling back into bed with her. It's such an interesting love story that's been told before but with the new pandemic situation makes things interesting. It's like i'm listening to gossip and loving it. She has a lovely voice and the production keeps things interesting on all of the tracks so you never feel bored, it's short and sweet so you end up replaying the EP over and over and before long she was amongst my most listened to artists of 2020. There are also bops, alot of dance songs that keep you engaged as FLETCHER says in an interview "I've done my fair share of just straight-up sad, crying in your bed music. I'm still going through ****, but I want to bop to it. We can still be emo and want to twerk at the same time." She definitely achieves this here on my favourite EP of 2020! :clap3::clap3::clap3:

Your top 3 is on point :clap3: Songs for You + Ungodly Hour, we love R&B albums with a little pop mixed in :sats: Love Goes is nice and underrated :heart2: Sam starting to do bops was a great idea, HYDS? is a contender for their best song (and Kids Again as well.) SAWAYAMA :alexz: There really are so many genres and styles on it. Most people will stick to one for their debut but she said nope, let me try 'em all!
