I discovered Emilie & Isabela this year, both fantastic foreign artists, and their music is not at the top of my list but definitely worth checking out. 'Get Me' is the only good song on Justin's changes. I don't listen to 5SOS or MAX ever, but during a dry period I gave their albums a listen and was pleasantly surprised, they will be making more appearances on my list. 'All of my love's rap is AWFUL, it would have been higher without the feature. omg someone else who listened to MAX! You should check his first LP, Hells Kitchen Angel.
Remmy Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Still in the process of getting into RAYE, so far I've enjoyed Love of My Life & her feature on Thank You by PVRIS. Nice to Meet Ya, F**k This World, six thirty & Die a Little Bit are cute Comme des garçons I'm still pressed that 5SOS made Old Me an official single when it seemed like No Shame was the 3rd single instead... and they did Wildflower dirty, aka the best track on CALM. Sugar On the Rim, Simmer, Cinnamon, Hallucinate, Stay Away, Pedialyte yup yup Ready for the rest of this list
Tom Vercetti Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 CDG is good & Hallucinate is one of the FN highlights for me.
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 5, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 5, 2020 who the **** is max torn, simmer, cinnamon, hallucinate some are too low tho
potent Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Simmer and Cinnamon are both good, although I think I like Cinnamon better, I did like her visuals this era Hallucinate is a bop
Ewan Chaos Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 And Tsunami was my favorite from that Emilie album! Well done (unless there's more of her songs then oops sorry). CDG and Hallucinate are great. I personally prefer Cinnamon over Simmer but both are AMAZING. Funny enough with Stay Away/Felt this Way I only like them when they're paired together even though they're basically the same exact song. I just think the concept of the two of them existing on that album is super cool and a tiny bit daring for Ms. Jepsen.
Mezik Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 34+35 is super cute, and probably the best thing from Ariana's new album. Sugar on the Rim & Get Me were both solid as well.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 34+35 flopped like this I loved this bop actually Die a Little Bit is a BOP one of my favorites from her Simmer
K$Ellie Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Hallucinate is far too low the way it HIT me again recently whew west side and Commes are v cute but not their best, Torn is one of Ava's more tolerable songs
Pink Matter Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 34+35 is so hated when it shouldn't be F*ck This World isn't even in my top half and it's still so good! six thirty and Hallucinate (this grew on me massively) deserve to be higher! safety net lowkey grew on me
Kevin2803 Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Tinashe, JoJo, Dua, Kiana, Ariana, Ava, Rina & Fletcher

"Down like my foot on the gas skrt skrt down like six thirty yeah!" I dislike that part, really poor lyrics. Although the verse after that is great. Me too, but not my faves of the year so ranked a bit low1 Thanks for all of your responses and apologies for the late update! 35. Changes - Justin Bieber I only use one song from this album and it's 'Get Me (feat. Kehlani)', this album is not good and was one of the worst i've heard in a while. I never give his albums a listen and this was not a good first start. vGet Me (feat. Kehlani) 34. Light Year - Clark Beckham An assortment of mid/slow tempo tracks that rarely showcase his great range. Clark really needs to lean in to his upper register more, rather than staying in head voice. The lyrics are good and there's some emotion behind his love songs but overally this was not as enjoyable as I had hoped Clark. Recommend: Know Me // Run Away 33. It Was Good Until It Wasn't - Kehlani Kehlani's previous effort made it to my top 10 last year, I enjoyed the sultry tracks but thought it was a mixed bag. This however, is a step backward. I think her recent public relationship woes have taken center stage here and it just didn't connect with me this go around, in fact I've barely picked up the album again since my first few plays when it released. Last year I said "I hope with her next full length project there's more fun sexy songs that she excels at, along with the personal, or the sultry and confident along with the heartbreaking." ... she only brought the heartbreak.. again. I always have high hopes for her, her voice is so great and has only gotten better, her runs and very few high notes are a highlight and her sultrier voice when portraying sexy/romantic is enticing on a track, but the lyrical contents of this album left me mostly bored. Looking forward to the next. Recommend: Change Your Life (feat. Jhené Aiko) // Everybody Business // Serial Lover 32. ~how i'm feeling~ - Lauv Yet another album with too many tracks, but last time I enjoyed many of them very much, this time.. not so much. Lauv always has great lyrics that keep me relistening, and his voice is pleasant as well! but.. this time they felt a little less mature, less.. polished? Not sure what it was but there were few interesting songs lyrically, and many I was just happy to hear once. That said, I did end up liking a handful that went into regular rotation a few weeks after the album dropped. I'm not even sure how he can evolve, he seems stagnant and that's fine? I wish he'd take a risk but i'm scared it would end in failure. Songs like 'Modern Lonliness' & 'Sweatpants' are him at his best, and 'Feelings' was a surprise favourite of mine, very personal but upbeat, best song on the album. 'El Tejano (feat. Sofía Reyes)' was a surprise collab from him but they both pulled it off really well. But.. songs like 'Julia' which I assume is an ode to ex Julia Michaels or 'Billy' named after his dog were really all duds that lacked replayability imo. Recommend: Feelings // Modern Lonliness // i'm so tired... (With Troye Sivan) 31. Dream Awake - Black Atlass First time listening to this artist and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it from start to end, but it's definitely better as a cohesive album and I don't often to pick random songs to listen too. That said, his production and his voice range is great, pretty falsetto. He seems to have a good control of his voice and i'll definitely be looking out for him in the future. The latter half of the album is much stronger than the first half. Recommend: Never Enough // Do For Love // Sin City 30. Smile - Katy Perry What a fall from grace.. it still baffles me that an artist as huge as she once was is struggling so hard now, but I gotta say this was a small but decent step forward. There were some cute songs that I replayed a couple times. I never watch Zach Cambell review videos anymore but he was right in saying that she's gotta stop with the uplifting, motivating, "you can do it if you try" shtick. If she's sick of pop music that's fine, but carve a lane where you're comfortable, don't just sing the same message over and over across every album. 'Harley's ranked at #30 on my list last year as one of my faves and I still enjoy it, Charlie Puth's pen is but 'Daisies' was a very delightful mid-tempo ballad with an absolutely beautiful music video and 'Cry About it Later' is my fave of the new songs, that to me was a glimpse of the Katy we once knew.. Recommend: Harleys In Hawaii // Cry About It Later // Never Really Over 29. Love, Death & Dancing - Jack Garratt Another new artist discovery this year, decent album where production really lifts it from subpar to quite good. That plus decent lyrics makes for an ejoyable listen. Recommend: Better // Time 28. Birds of Prey: The Album - Various Artists A number of artists were discovered from this soundtrack, it was my first listen to Doja that made me go.. "WHO IS THIS!?". Everyone from Lauren to Saweetie to Meghan/Normani to Charlotte Lawrence to even Jurnee Smollett shone on this album and gave really great, fun tracks. The biggest surprise was Halsey, who i've never really paid attention too but that ROCK track was addicting and if this is her usual lane I need to pay more attention. Most of these songs match the craziness of the poorly done film, so props to the artists for matching its energy. Recommend: Boss Bitch - Doja Cat // Diamonds - Megan Thee Stallion & Normani // Invisible Chains - Lauren Jauregui 27. Dedicated Side B - Carly Rae Jepsen 'Dedicated' made it to #14 on my list last year, I enjoyed it but it wasn't my favourite and I didn't enjoy it as a whole. This however, is a stronger effort imo, and should have been the main album More pop songs, better cohesive tracklist. Still there's something to be desired, Carly rarely pushes her voice in any fun way, not even playing to much with harmonies? Although it was weird hearing the same song twice back to back I actually enjoyed it It was different, who cares? Carly seems to have difficulty differentiating between what listeners want to hear and what she thinks listeners want to hear, that's the only way I can explain the lesser quality first effort, but this was an enjoyable 2nd attempt. Recommend: Stay Away // Felt This Way // This Is What They Say 26. Heaven & Hell - Ava Max I was left utterly confused at the total dud reviews from everyone regarding this, maybe because her live performances are abysmall? I listened to this album with caustion and was surprised, there are actually some good tracks here, like.. really good pop songs that aren't too generic. Also, can she actually hit that high note she did in 'Belladonna'? Who knows? But I love replaying that song anyway! I think she got unneccessary heat based on preconceived notions prior to the album release, particularly from Gaga stans seeing her as a mere imitation (a la Mariah stans looking at Ariana during her debut era to a small degree, but at least Ari had the live talent to back up any nay sayers). Idk man, i'm not a fan of people who can't sing live but i've seen very little of what she can do so I can't judge too harshly yet, the album at least is a decent pop debut and she gets her props for that. (Really wish she had the Kings & Queens feature with Lauv on the album as I prefer that version.) Recommend: Belladonna // Torn // Rumors Edited December 9, 2020 by KasioKas
Remmy Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I paid some attention to the music while watching Birds of Prey (twice) but nothing really stood out to me Boss Bitch is probably the only Doja song I've enjoyed so far. Smile definitely could've been better, I'd still say it's mostly enjoyable. Dedicated Side B Should've been the main album? I wouldn't go that far. Harleys In Hawaii, Never Really Over, Stay Away, Felt This Way Quote Wildflower is one of the best, along with Teeth. Wow we finally kinda agree on something? Teeth is my least favorite from the album, actually No just kidding. Probably my 4th place or something.
Psycho Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I think Ava is a good vocalist with potential, she just hasn't gotten the live experience yet especially with COVID cancelling concerts.. But taste otherwise
Mezik Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I agree with the assessment of Bieber's album, except I also use Intentions. Carly's was cute, and Ava puts out some good bops!
Into The Void Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 why are some of these on the list if u dont like them?
Kevin2803 Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 So many good albums Kehlani, Ava, Carly, Katy & Birds of Prey
KasioKas Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 47 minutes ago, Insanity said: why are some of these on the list if u dont like them? I have criticisms, if they're warranted, for all albums I rank but I liked at least 1 song from all of these albums which allows it to make my list. I also just listened to so few albums this year due to other time consuming priorities. The only album I truly didn't like was Changes, all others range from massive to minor disappointments as the ranking goes on.
mokitsu Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 i loved jack garrat's 2016 album (his debut i think). if you liked this one check it out! at least the singles, they're great. he also produced katy perry's "power" from witness. and i agree with you on kehlani. such a step backwards. it was a very bland album imo - water and can i were the only highlights for me.
