I honestly shocked nnn But i mostly agree with the list so far. Even though i really like their new albums but there's something about them that make me wanting more. Maybe because of their previous albums that are good that expectation from a lot of people including myself are so high and they didn't meet that expectation yeah i feel a lot of appreciation for music has to do with the context and factors that don't relate ONLY to the music. i'm sure i would have appreciated some of these more if they were a debut album but with expectations set based on singles or their previous work, it's hard to get into new albums once i feel those aren't met.

Yes i agree. Honestly it's hard to maintain such acclaim after you received it in your previous albums. When my favs start releasing duds, i can help but feeling dissapointed about it. But i always have soft spot for them in the end like, sorry your new album sucks hard but at least you debut and sophomore album are masterpiece ddd

Spill the tea sis. Although I appreciate Fiona’s album for it supposed to be, idk why everyone lost it over this album. And the production is so boring as soon as you listen for a second time At least it’s not dominating year end lists so critics are somewhat coming back to their senses

Sunderland 4ever Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Glad to see I'm not the only one who is not into the whole Fetch The Bolt Cutters praise. It was a decent album, but that is all. Also, shoutout for mentioning Julia Jacklin. I thoroughly enjoyed both her solo and band projects last decade.
Alex Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 thank god someone else doesn’t like Cape God either i love positions
Psycho Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Yeah Cape God was cute for a minute but aged, I don't use. Her other projects >> Positions sucked I'm a Smile defender but I respect it Didn't check for Fiona
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted December 3, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 I continue to agree with your disappointments Smile was so strange too. I've never been the biggest Katy fan but I was ready to stan this release since NRO and 365 were so good IMO. And the only song on Smile that I ended up really liking was Tucked
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 3, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 3, 2020 Lemme just ignore the FTBC mention.... cape god was a gigantic let down. I like ONE song on it
Into The Void Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 Smile is cute for what its intention is. Positions just felt underwhelming after sweetener and tu, next.
perpetual novice Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 I'm living for the aesthetic of the OP Sad that Cape God is in your disappointments but the others are fair.
K$Ellie Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Deffo agree on Allie, Cape God was very tame and bland but not terrible by any means I didn't hate Smile but my expectations were non existent so maybe that's why, not a great album tho I'm not in love with FTBC but that's the case with all her albums with me tho, but Cosmonauts is excellent lbr and I understand the Ariana criticism even if I like Piss
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 4, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted December 4, 2020 Smile and FTBC are great though wtf like I know they are on two separate ends sdcfvd; but they're both great in their own way
Ava Max Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 I agree about Allie. Only the first few tracks are good.
potent Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 I can understand what you're saying about Fiona, but it really is excellent imo Didn't listen to the rest though and don't care to, I guess the title tracks of Smile and Positions were cute but that would be it
Ewan Chaos Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 I kinda hate the Allie album, so fair play to you. Ariana could have done "sex" in a much better way than Positions but I think people do too much on the album! Not a CTTR shirt nnn but yeah Smile is crap. FIONA?! Also not you naming one of my favorite songs from that album nnnn. You know... reading your description though I totally get it. It's definitely less accessible than say... The Idler Wheel which is also a flawless Fiona record but much easier to listen to.

mokitsu Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 in a year where we had to spend so much time locked up inside our houses, my main source of entertainment was catching up on tv shows and movies i had missed. among all the shows i watched, new and old, some definitely stuck with me, so i wanted to highlight my favorite and give other recommendations as well. i may destroy you, helmed by michaela cohen, was a show i ventured into with curiosity and a bit of fear, because i knew it was going to be a hard experience. it's relatively short - 12 episodes, each around 25 minutes, but each episodes deals with a topic in such a raw and rich way that leaves you thinking and analyzing yourself and those around you after it's over. a great mixture of genres that sometimes remind you of sex and the city with its funny, relatable and outgoing characters and sometimes remind you of euphoria with darker subject matters, the exploration of a grey area and nuance in morality, and the accuracy of life in your 20s. despite the heavy subject matter that the main plot tackles, there's always a humorous side that contrasts with how devastating it is - a less talented writer would've made this show a complete bomb, maybe borderline insensitive, but "i may destroy you" does it wonderfully. while tv shows were able to mostly succeed and exist in 2020, movies took a harder toll with the closing of theaters worldwide. this lead to the dilemma between releasing them on streaming, with the potential loss of profit, or delaying them for months. we end the year with, sadly, not many remarkable movies (take a quick look at imdb's popular movies page and you'll see all of them are in the 5-6 range) but there were two that i thought were great: "birds of prey" and "the invisible man". "birds of prey" is definitely not your average superhero film - it's one that can only be defined by "what the ****", so absurd, weird and drugged out and most importantly FUN. it doesn't attempt to be loved by everyone with it's hilarious mess and it's a big **** you to the stereotypical morality-driven, male-centered 3 hour slogs that are most superhero movies. "invisible man" was like...the first blockbuster to be released on streaming and it was a MOMENT. what i expected: a generic supernatural thriller. what i got: an intense, unpredictable, psychological thriller with excellent direction and another career-defining performance from the reigning queen of scientology, and a unique and pertinent commentary about gas lighting and toxic relationships. the nature of the story makes us tense up at every scene, wondering if the villain is gonna pop up at any moment until the very end (not that it relies on scare-jumps, mind you). another great entry to the list of essential horror movies.

I adore this album after revisiting it this summer. At least we're even now.
mokitsu Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 and since not everyone cares about these here are the honorable mentions i'm gonna start the main list tomorrow with 5 eps and 5 songs. and i'll do 5 songs and 5 eps/albums everyday. i have 10 eps, 40 albums and 50 songs
