ARTPOP was NOT a flop!

The way ATRL was talking about ATRL, I expected horrible numbers from the era, but after looking up its stats...I don't get how it's deemed as one of the worst underperformances in history of pop?

#1 Artpop - Multi-Platinum and Top 5 album WW

#4 Applause - 14 weeks Top 10

#8 Dope - album track making the Top 10 was huge back then

#13 - Do What U Want - big Top 20 hit

Stop. :rip: Everyone knows it only had that peak because it ran as a full ad on YouTube.

Nobody willingly listens to “Dope” :doc:

Artpop isn’t multi-platinum though.

Applause was just a quick little single that failed to push the album past 1xPlatinum.

Everything else flopped.

I agree. For her standards, it was a significant fall, but even so, it was still a success.

It was moreso the media trying to break her and tear her down. "Gaga is a flop" was imminent, she had and still has a lot of haters.

The album is platinum sweetie in the US.

OT:

No it wasn't. It kind of was at the time because of the pop boom of that era. As in pop was popular still then, and it was kinda like the first underperformance from Gaga and the girls of that digital era. However, as time went by, all pop girls flopped and people realised it was nothing of the sort.

ARTPOP simply set the precedence for the ball park of how a Gaga era performs outside a smash era or her massive peak. In essence, its just a decent performing era that stans can pick holes in because it's not a smash and certain elements flop. Joanne then performed similarly, and now Chromatica will out perform it but perform around the general field of ARTPOP/Joanne. its not a smash like BTW or ASIB, but it's not a commercial flop either.

Getting back to ARTPOP, The only thing it truly flopped in beside GUY, was awards and acclaim. As well as the PR she got that was new at the time. Thst was probably what worried the Gaga brand the most. Without ARTPOP there'd be no journey of rebrand or acting, so I'm glad ARTPOP happened.

Some people would love to have the numbers she had when "flopping" so it says it all

For her standards and from her previous albums then it was considered a flop. Though it's not but maybe underperforming

depends on your point of view. I know for some girls and their fans 2M WW might seem like a success, but for others it just doesn't cut it

It sort of of tanked, but then so did a lot of records that localize in the 4M+ CSPC units range. The recurrent streams of the album aren’t making up for it either.

Applause was indisputably a hit tho. Only biased stans would claim the opposite

Now that it was revealed that it did have a major budget we can have as conclusion that it was in fact a flop.

How is it a success if the label lost $25M from it? :skull:

In business, return-on-investment at the end of the day is the most important thing. You can't compare ARTPOP to another album from a mid-tier artist (for example) and say it's more successful given that they have different budget for promotion :skull:
