What happened to Taylor's career?

ATRL assured me that her career was in decline since 1989 and that  the reputation and lover eras were underperformances and that she would be a non event by the time her eighth album rolled around. What changed?

She deviated from the formula. Did something fresh and unexpected.

Maybe because ME! is actually an awful frontloaded song?

That doesn't mean her career is on a decline when Lover moved a ton of units

She released the Netflix documentary which made her more likable and portrayed her in a light that made her seem more human and personable to the public. Also, she started to do more of what she wanted musically and stopped trying to live up to everyone's crazy expectations. Truth and fact, brothers and sisters! :giraffe:

She released the followup to Lover. The fictional narrative that Taylor's career was in jeopardy was never going to last long

People wish their favs had a decline like hers LOL. Her previous album is selling more than certain pop girls’ current albums

Other girls' release during quarantine straightly tanked but ok:biblio: It definitely reduced the streaming and buying powers especially for new releases.

OT. She's just too smart, powerful and talentedw:jonny5:

Lover was a quality flop. It was a mixed unauthentic bag and she knew it. That's why she stripped all the glitter down and did folklore. And she did it so well.

she actually released good music for once. reputation & lover did not live up to 1989 and red which caused people to be turned off by that. folklore is great great music.

THIS! The Netflix documentary had a great impact.. I remember my friends and my sister watching it and listening to Taylor’s old material after it and suddenly they all became obsessed with her...

When lover didn't completely flop, that was the moment I realised she's not going anywhere anytime soon. Taylor Swift is just too powerful. At this point it doesn't matter what she releases. Taylor Swift, the brand, is so strong.

And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't really like her music. She's a clever marketer and she's made herself into an unstoppable force.
