ATRL Moderator Element Posted June 26, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted June 26, 2020 @Bey_Rihstan @Buddy! @DripDrip @dussymob @EriKills @Gateau @kiiwii @kipperskipper @Lucky#17 @Marvin @Not Like The Movies @Staryu @thecptz @Tom Vercetti @Touch It @Yvess @Astronomy @Dylan' @clue @supaspaz Castaways, welcome to Round 6 of Survivor: All Stars (ATRL Edition)! Once again, two tribes will win immunity! Just one tribe will be heading to Tribal Council. The highest individual scorer on the losing tribe will also be immune. The theme for Round 6 is... I ❤ NY Other places… make me feel like a dork... For this sixth round, we are looking for songs where the narrator is professing their love for a city. The city might be their hometown, or just a city/town that they are fond of. The narrator proclaims their love for a specific city. To bring your entry to the next level, the narrator of your song should also mention the flaws in other cities and how those places do not compare to the narrator’s favorite city. Thank you to @clue for his creative round suggestion! What To Do: Once your song is selected, PM both of the hosts the artist and title of your song on Discord. You don't have to include a link to the song unless you are sending a specific version of it. There's no explanation needed as your song should speak for itself. If your song requires an explanation to make sense, it's not a good fit. There are many of you playing this game. You guys are bound to submit the same songs at some point and because no one can occupy the same song, we encourage you to send a back-up choice along with your first pick. This applies especially to those who are not around when a round is posted and don't have the luxury of choosing an instant track. REMINDER: ONCE YOU SEND A SONG THAT IS AVAILABLE, YOUR CHOICE IS LOCKED AND YOU MAY NOT SWITCH. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT SWITCH SONGS. IF SOMEONE TAKES YOUR SONG FIRST, THAT IS WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SUBMIT A NEW ONE, SO PLEASE SUBMIT A BACK-UP. Take Into Consideration: The panel will judge the audio/lyrics of the track you submit. Music videos will not increase or decrease your score as some music video plots differ from a song's true meaning. The theme is what is important here. You will not receive a low score because you sent in a song one of the judges does not like. Taste will at the most be the difference between an 8.5 or a 9. We will never dock off multiple points based off mere preference. The song you choose should display the meaning upfront. An interview with your artist clarifying the meaning of the song will not be taken into consideration. Judging Scale (May Vary By Judge): 9/10 – Great entry. Track displays the theme given head on. 8 – Good entry. Displays theme well but not as well as others. 7 – Okay entry. Fits decently but is missing something overall. 6 – Somewhat tackles the theme but falls flat. 5 – Track mentions theme but is otherwise off–base. 3/4 – Song does not hit the theme given besides a line or two. 1/2 – Song has to do with a completely different subject than the theme. We will supply an example for each round for you all to take inspiration from. Obviously no one can select this song as their entry. The example for this round is ”I Love New York” by Madonna. In this song, Madonna professes her love for New York City. Madonna is her usual unapologetic self when she discusses other cities in the song: “other cities make me feel like a dork.” She drags Los Angeles, Paris, and London along the way, taking her declaration to the next level. She identifies how great New York is and doesn't want anyone to tell her otherwise - she won't hear it! If New York City isn’t for you, she pretty much tells you to **** off and leave! The TWO tribes with the highest average scores will be safe this round, meaning that ONE losing tribe will attend tribal council. Remember that the highest scoring member of the losing tribe will be immune at tribal council. Your song submissions are due in <24 hours (8 PM ET) on Friday, June 26th. Good luck and please let the hosts know if you have any questions!

rl231 Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Contestants Song Marvin Empire State of Mind - Alicia Keys & Jay-Z Not Like the Movies Ella Fitzgerald - Manhattan Tom Vercetti Ice Cube - Nothing Like LA Bey_Rihstan LA - Ty Dolla Sign Staryu Jewel - The Spokane Song Empire State of Mind - Alicia Keys & Jay-Z Astro - 9.5 - I was so close to giving this a ten bitch! You ****ed up!!! No, really, this would be song of the round if it mentioned another city Clue - 9.5 - Almost completely perfect. I just wish the bridge mentioned another city specifically. We only got the “no place in the world that could compare” line. Dylan - 9.5 - This is the anthem but I guess I gotta give a 9.5 to anything that doesn’t drag another city. Supaspaz - 9 - One of the great geographic odes in the history of pop music. It made me want to be a New Yorker when it came out. But! It didn’t make me not want to be a Californian. Guero - 9.5 - “Concrete jungle wet dream tomato!” Iconic. I had to knock some points for no mention of another city, but this is a great collaboration by two famous New Yorkers. Ella Fitzgerald - Manhattan Astro - 9 - It’s very romantic, but no other cities. Fuming a bit but in the words of Baby Z, I am very → that Clue - 9 - The love for Manhattan is there. Just the mention of other cities is missing. Dylan - 8.5 - This is good though it doesn’t really criticize other areas. Supaspaz - 8.5 - I love that this romantic stroll between a young couple becomes a love letter to New York itself. But its superiority to other cities is once again mostly just implied. Guero - 9 - Love how she mentions specific parts of Manhattan to tell us why she loves it so much. No mention of how Manhattan is better than others knocked you down some points. Ice Cube - Nothing Like LA Astro - 9.5 - He almost did it, he almost won the round. Almost. Still tho: Clue - 9.5 - Nearly perfect. Dylan - 9.5 - Doesn’t necessarily criticize other places but it does directly say they can’t compare to LA. Even though LA is the worst. Supaspaz - 9.5 - The nicest diss track ever written. Guero - 9.5 - Oh I love this. It would have gotten a perfect score but he basically says there’s nothing wrong with these other cities - he just prefers LA. LA - Ty Dolla Sign Astro - 8.5 - You know, this is pretty solid, but definitely the weakest so far. It needed the other cities and could’ve been a teensy bit more in your face about why LA is better, but i like it Clue - 8.5 - Okay I’m living for all of these random Brandy features that y’all are introducing me to :deadbanana:. This one was pretty multifaceted. I like how it mentioned LA’s flaws too. It was just missing the mention of other cities. Dylan - 7 - This seems weaker in comparison to the rest of your tribe. Not sure if it’s an I made it anthem more than an I love LA anthem. It works overall though. Supaspaz - 8 - The melancholy tribute, with hometown pride pushing through a recognition of its flaws, is genuinely lovely. It’s just missing even a glancing mention of other places. Guero - 7 - This song seems to be more of the struggles of growing up in LA, but still having love for the city and where you came from. It also doesn’t mention any other cities or why LA is superior to them. Jewel - The Spokane Song Astro - 10 - What the **** did I just listen to? It’s perfect, but like, girl what the **** was that? Clue - 10 - This SENT me. Omfg. It’s pretty great, and it mentioned how other cities can’t compare, but I just wish it mentioned a specific city. Nonetheless, it’s easily the closest so far. Dylan - 10 - Oh wow this kinda serves more than I thought for the round. Queen sh*t. Supaspaz - 10 - Other cities. Other cities. Do you hate them ‘cause they’re pieces of Spokane? Guero - 10 - Love for the city? Check. Dragging other cities for not being able to do what her city can? Check. Good job. Archon next...
rl231 Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Contestants Song DripDrip Chicago - Take Me Back to Chicago EriKills Dizzee Rascal - Love This Town (feat. Teddy Sky) Buddy! San Francisco - John Lee Hooker kipperskipper There's No Place Like London - Shirley Bassey dussymob Dear Old Syracuse - The Boys From Syracuse Cast Yvess Randy Newman - I Love L.A. Chicago - Take Me Back to Chicago Astro - 9.5 - How meta of them, Chicago singing about… Chicago. LA being name-dropped so yeah, you met the criteria. Clue - 10 - Perfect. It had it all. It specifically mentioned that LA was too fast-paced. Dylan - 9.5 - Yeah this is pretty perfect. Supaspaz - 9.5 - Chicago becomes a representation of the prime of his life, the youth he would like to recapture. Guero - 9.5 - It’s clear that he has love for Chicago, and he also mentions another city and the flaw he saw with it compared to Chicago. Pretty good entry. Dizzee Rascal - Love This Town (feat. Teddy Sky) Astro - 8.5 - Kind of a miss a bit, but still relatively on topic. Also what in the 2014? Clue - 8.5 - So he opens the song with expressing love for other cities; kinda the opposite of what we asked for. But the rest was totally on point so I’m cool with this. Dylan - 9 - That first line really helps you out. Supaspaz - 8.5 - From the lyrics to the anthemic EDM chorus, everything about this feels so generic. Guero - 9 - His love for London is apparent, but it’s the same thing with a previous entry where he mentions other cities but simply states that he prefers London over them. San Francisco - John Lee Hooker Astro - 10 - Yes. Clue - 9.5 - Werk. Dylan - 10 - This is more of a sad take on the round than the example but it does the thing anyway. Supaspaz - 10 - He knows San Francisco is the best, because he’s left and no place can compare. Guero - 9.5 - I wish he would have gone further on why NYC or Chicago don’t compare to SF. But I appreciate the interesting take on how to profess his love for the city with a blues song. There's No Place Like London - Shirley Bassey Astro - 9.5 - Was hoping for more city draggings, if I’m being honest here. Clue - 9.5 - Almost perfect. Dylan - 9.5 - We could’ve gotten some good city anthems this round but because of the criticizing over cities qualifier we got all of these boring ass songs. Supaspaz - 9.5 - It really benefits from the specificity of the London love. Guero - 9.5 - A pretty good entry - just needed her to drag some other cities a bit. Dear Old Syracuse - The Boys From Syracuse Cast Astro - 10 - Yep yep. Clue - 10 - Perfect. Dylan - 10 - Yup. Supaspaz - 10 - Drag them, boys. Guero - 10 - Whew they dragged those cities. But it’s a perfect entry. Randy Newman - I Love L.A. Astro - 10 - Definitely meeting the criteria Clue - 10 - Absolutely perfect. He really gathered those other cities, whew. Dylan - 10 - Really hits the spot on the criticizing other cities part. Supaspaz - 10 - On its surface, it’s the best submission of the week. So how do I account for the fact that the entire thing is perhaps ironic? Guero - 10 - This was what we were looking for. Nomadis, you're up...
rl231 Posted June 28, 2020 Author Posted June 28, 2020 Contestants Song Gateau Mike Posner - Buried in Detroit kiiwii Ray Charles – New York's My Home Touch It The Chicks – Lubbock or Leave It Lucky#17 Tony Bennett - I Left My Heart (In San Francisco) thecptz Ernest Tubb - Texas Troubadour Mike Posner - Buried in Detroit Astro - 9 - While it’s a pretty song, per se, I think he could’ve been more detailed when it comes to the other cities. Clue - 9.5 - He mentions other cities, but he doesn’t drag them. Dylan - 8 - More of a salute to his hometown than an anthem but it works. Supaspaz - 9 - A moving reflection on the way where we grew up is always reflected in us. Guero - 8 - He doesn’t really say why he loves Detroit - just that he’s going to end up there in the end. He also doesn’t really drag any of the cities he’s mentioned. Ray Charles – New York's My Home Astro - 10 - We love songs that shade other cities and rightfully so Clue - 10 - Totally perfect. Dylan - 9 - Yeah yeah yeah we get it New York is cool. Supaspaz - 10 - That finally line really puts it all together and makes clear that he doesn’t think those other cities he mentioned are worth a damn. Guero - 10 - Shows what he loves about New York and also drags plenty of other cities. Great entry. The Chicks – Lubbock or Leave It Astro - 1 - Girl… Did you even listen to this? Clue - 2 - They’re literally dragging this town, there’s no love. Totally the opposite of what we asked for. Dylan - 1 - Yeah, they’re calling the town hypocritical and yearning for an escape. Unfortunately a complete misfire. Supaspaz - 1 - Someone pulled a Staryu with this one. Guero - 1 - I’m mad that I enjoyed the song but it does not fit the theme at all. Tony Bennett - I Left My Heart (In San Francisco) Astro - 10 - See this is why I’m happy I’m the last one to do this because if I listened to this after Clue and gave it a much higher score, I would’ve been very confused with myself jksdfjldf. Clue - 10 - “The loveliness of Paris seems somehow sadly gay,” rude. I gave this a 7.5 because I was dumb and thought he was singing about a lover of his. Supa steered me in the right direction. So thank him. Dylan - 9 - The Lady Gaga collaborator did that. Not sure what SPAZ is on about Supaspaz - 10 - Where the hell did you guys get that this is about a lost love? He’s literally singing about hills and cable cars and fog, which he doesn’t have anymore in New York. Guero - 10 - This fancy restaurant music whew. Anyway, this song fits the theme perfectly. Ernest Tubb - Texas Troubadour Astro - 10 - Yes, on theme, perfect. Also, what the **** was the reason for y’all taking us on a trip back in time? Like, this was the most random pattern in a round thus far and I have to say… I’m shook from it LMAO. Clue - 10 - Perfect. Dylan - 9.5 - Dragged NYC. Supaspaz - 10 - New York needs to be taken down a peg every once in a while. Guero - 10 - We love a good The Confederacy vs The Union diss song chile. This fits the theme we were asking for. RESULTS LAST!
