Brandy - 'B7'

Baby Mama is such an odd choice as a single, it doesn’t represent the album’s sound very well :deadbanana:

The songs are beautiful and she sounds amazing. I think the production is nostalgic.

i can forgive production not being perfect, that's not a big deal to me, esp now that i know she's independent. but where are the RUNS? full moon, afrodisiac, two eleven were so vocally ambitious/interesting, and this is just...not.

this is not meant to be shade but why did jhene aiko have a more vocally interesting album than brandy in 2020?

Don't be shady lol...I'm just kidding, but honestly Jhene always had it in her and has always been inspired by Brandy especially in her early 2000 years she just lost the confidence through the years and spoke about it recently saying she wanted to really not be afraid of not being perfect on songs like "Lightning & Thunder" and really go for it vocally.

Did we listen to the same album? She plays with her lower and upper register on some tracks and there are intricate runs all through the album??? Do you know who you're talking about? An album doesn't need runs to be interesting but Brandy definitely gave a lot to this album.

I really think y'all don't pay attention to songs with good headphones and give it just one quick bursh over and write a paragraph review..

Saving All My Love - Love the harmonies. Love the s/o to "Brokenhearted". Love the piano. Love the horn that makes an appearance. Not the best opener, but it's a really good song.

Unconditional Oceans - I enjoyed how the last song went right into this. I'm a sucker for good transitions. I lost focus half way through the song. I don't love the production.

Rather Be - I thought this was just a transition into Unconditional Oceans until I looked at the song title. The production was slightly similar like it was a breakdown to the previous song. I like this one.

They didn't say better vocals...they said more interesting vocal arrangements etc. which so far I agree with when you had range from "One Way St. to On The Way to Tryna Smoke to Lightning & Thunder" which were all so different vocally especially for Jhene. There's great stacking and harmonies here, but everything so far is the same vocally so far.

All My Life, pt. 1 - It's just there.

Lucid Dreams - I love this one vocally. Once again production is boring, but Brandy is killing it.

I don't love this album, don't hate it either. I think it has to grow on me because the production is weird, like my brain can't compute and combined with her delivery in some songs makes it harder. Borderline is the BEST song and most single worthy. It's classic Brandy tbh.

I saw what they said hun. Nothing about the standard edition was vocally interesting for me. Haven’t listened to the deluxe.

Jhene is samey

Borderline - Nice song. That note towards the end though! I woke up a bit. Love her vulnerability here.

No Tomorrow - I Like the subject. I can relate.

with headphones i enjoy it more. this album feels slow to me so it was distracting me from what she was doing. this is definitely a grower.

I Am More - I love how she started this one vocally. The R word may ruffle some feathers.

High Heels - I always love a parent/child duet. The song is just ok though. The rap is corny.

Baby Mama - Sounds like a bonafide hit in the context of the rest of the material.

I actually love it so far. It’s a different vibe but I like it.

Love Again - my highlight so far, but I already loved the hell out of this song. Excited to see what "Bye Bipolar" is going to offer since I've seen a lot about that one.

Bye Bipolar - Love the vulnerability, but I was very bored.

Overall. The album isn't BAD, but it's extremely boring. She has much more interesting work in her discography.

Off of first listen I'd rank her projects:

Afrodiac

Full Moon

Never Say Never

Two Eleven

Brandy

B7

Human (1st & Love, Fall, Long DIstance, A Capella, and Right Here > most of B7 though)

They are easily her best 3 albums and some of the best R&B albums period.

This is Brandy’s most experimental album.

I don't know how I feel about this album. I think there's great songs but there's aspects of every song that annoy me.

Unconditional Oceans is unlistenable...She is just talking while the song plays and those interludes were unnecessary.
