Hug Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Jackson cracked the code Be careful if you gon try SaintWest, though.
Jackson Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 BTW I tried to write a very risky and out of the box entry this week but it just WASNT working so I ended up writing this. I don't think it's very much like any of my entries except maybe Vilomah though. It's the first relationship song I've written this season

fountain Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 3 minutes ago, jpow said: But like I said, I'm serious about the game but not serious about songwriting in general. I don't understand why there is a problem with this? Every season during sign ups, people sign up that have never written a song or consider themselves songwriters. That was me my first season. I've just enjoyed the same so much that I keep playing. So I don't think me being realistic about my knowledge of songwriting versus someone like Jackson or 8th is a bad thing. So I don't know why you said my point is "lacking" when I said I do better in challenges that give me a little boost of motivation and creativity. It made perfect sense to @Hug. And yes, I know that not all of the challenges this season are open ended but Hug gave me the same critique this week as he did last week - that I seem uninspired and not creative with my songs and I'm telling him honestly why that is. It's not a knock against you, the game, or anything else. It's just me. I didn't say there was a problem, just explaining that in doing so it makes perfect sense why you'd struggle to simply write a song if you've never actually done it before relying solely on your own creativity. That's just it. You critiqued the challenge for this but it makes perfect sense that the reason you struggled is down to your own choices and experience. Regarding new writers, theres a reason this obviously isn't the first challenge. By this point a new writers had 6 chances to write and we're now at the top 9. It's a challenge of your creativity and if you struggle with that, you're obviously gonna do worse. And creativity is key for a writer, so that's that. As much as you may feel this challenge leaves you blank on what to do it's also liberating in that you can do anything. I mean inspiration is around us everywhere so it shouldn't be that foreign of a concept to draw inspiration from somewhere.
Jackson Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Oh wow me being used as an example of an actual songwriter Loves it

Jackson Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Funny how I've only gotten advice on one song this season and it was my lowest peaking (but also my best)
SaintWest Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) For anybody who cares, this was the song I worked really hard on but didn't submit. anna [verse 1] News that was long awaited Came with nine months of celebrating Names picked out for our little girl If only I could’ve seen the future Doctor visits, Disney trips Father dancers that would be missed Chasing away boys one day But things didn’t work out that way [pre-chorus] Her memories are still a blur One day I’ll explain to her Why daddy’s no longer here Why we visit New York every year [chorus] You called before your flight took off On that tragic September morning For weeks we spoke of future plans Yet in hours, they’d mean nothing That day you fell, I fell with you And grief overtook my whole world But each day, I get peeks of you In the face of our baby girl [verse 2] Age 8 she shed her training wheels Age 9 she road a ferris wheel But I can’t forge the memory Of Christmas with the family Each September I’m so lonely My grieving overcomes me But these thoughts start to subside When I look in Anna’s eyes [pre-chorus] Her memories are still a blur One day I’ll explain to her Why daddy’s no longer here Why we visit New York every year [chorus] You called before your flight took off On that tragic September morning For weeks we spoke of future plans Yet in hours, they’d mean nothing That day you fell, I fell with you And grief overtook my whole world But each day, I get peeks of you In the face of our baby girl [bridge] Every part of you I’ve missed Your soulful heart and gentle lips You’re my angel fallen down But I still feel your soul around In the dimples on her cheeks I find the happiness I seek Every day I feel your gaze We’ll meet again one of these days [chorus] You called before your flight took off On that tragic September morning For weeks we spoke of future plans Yet in hours, they’d mean nothing That day you fell, I fell with you And grief overtook my whole world But each day, I get peeks of you In the face of our baby girl Edited February 13, 2017 by SaintWest

I have already written about the inspiration I have around me twice this season. Other than those two, I don't see any inspiration in my cats daily life or my gymnasts falling off of beam.
Citrus Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 As someone who isn't/wasn't an actual songwriter, don't give up hope.

Hug Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Also, true. Citrus ended up clocking someone who actually wants to do songwriting for a living in the PH9 finale.
Citrus Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I'm judging later today post-work, so my inbox is still ripe for bribing.
