Sometimes true artists have to sacrifice their art and dumb their lyrics down for the coin. :gaycat3:

Chained to the Rhythm is okay. I don't like it as much as Rise, but then again, it's probably my...3rd or 4th favorite single of hers.

ET > Wide Awake > Rise or Firework > Rise or Firework

Depends on what I feel about it at the time :cm:

As for where I would place CTTR...

Rise or Firework > Dark Horse > Teenage Dream > CTTR > others in their own special order and LFN is last

Is nobody going to talk about the fact that CTTR has the same intro as Style. :biblio:

Also, I am going to need people to stop dragging it for being fauxlitical. I guess some people can't handle social commentary when it's not blatant and using hot buzzwords. Katy should've just made the bridge slam poetry about Donald Trump, maybe people wouldn't be so eager to call it generic pop.

If it sounded anything like Style I would have unstanned already

Taylor copied Lana so it's not like she's the queen of originality, either. :sorry:

Nothing like making non-party, political song by releasing a party song. :clap3:

I think the song being upbeat is actually very fitting, because the song talks about ignoring the issues of the world and living in your own bubble. The chorus is tongue-in-cheek and not meant to be taken like a command like many dance songs circa 2010.

I have no idea why I am so adamant on defending this song when it's very middling to me.

I do admit I like it more with each listen, though. Might end up on my year end.

It's only February, slow down.

Well it's definitely more political than Formation or Born This Way, that's for sure!

I add songs to my year end list as a preliminary thing, then at the end of the year, I look at my list as see how much I like it then. For now, it's on my preliminary list!

BTW the alt right is currently having a meltdown over the song on twitter so don't act like its non-partisan :tsk:

Yeah, and I'm not denying the legitimacy of it, but people are acting like it's a political statement when it's just not. Saying "don't live in a bubble or ignore what's going on around you" could mean a lot of different things to different people, right? It's not targeting any direct issue at all, so I don't really get the praise over the political aspect of it. I think it's a cute song, some of the lyrics are cringey, and it reminds me of Style and This Is How We Do, but it's cute.

I just want to appreciate the sudden tone shift when she says "and party on" in the pre chorus. The way it sounds so bleak is effective in showcasing the song's message.

EDIT: The timing of the song has a lot to do with it being "political". A lot of people weren't involved in the political discussion of the 2016 election, and basically ignored it. This song could be considered a subtweet for everyone who "sat it out".

Not my fault you're politically tone deaf. Makes sense considering who you voted for :sorry:
