Quote

Bridgers pulls together a formidable crew of guests, including Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, Christian Lee Hutson and Conor Oberst; Nathaniel Walcott (of Bright Eyes), Nick Zinner (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Jenny Lee Lindberg (of Warpaint), Blake Mills and Jim Keltner; and her longtime bandmates Marshall Vore (drums), Harrison Whitford (guitar), Emily Retsas (bass) and Nick White (keys). The album was mixed by Mike Mogis, who also mixed Stranger In The Alps.

On the album’s epic, freewheeling closer, “I Know The End,” Bridgers orchestrates wails and horns, drums and electric guitar into a sumptuous doomsday swirl, culminating in her own final whispered roar. This is ‘Punisher' in a nutshell: devastating elegance punctuated by a moment of deeply campy self-awareness.

Only songs I've ever heard from her are Motion Sickness and Garden Song — but I liked both and also the boygenius EP. We'll see how this turns out

I’m starting to fangirl her. Stumbled upon Kyoto this week and now getting into her discography. Kyoto’s ever changing lyrics :smitten:  Motion Sickness and Smoke Signals from the last album :jonny: Her lyrics and vibe makes me feel some type of way

The key themes of Punisher, she says, are “crying” and feeling “numb.” Nearly every line on the new album carries an intense emotional charge, from “You couldn’t have stuck your tongue down the throat of somebody who loves you more,” on “Moon Song,” to “I hate your mom/I hate it when she opens her mouth,” on a devastating breakup song called “I See You.”

Quote

The new album is full of extremely Phoebe Bridgers moments. “Savior Complex” is a heartbreaking acoustic dirge with a melody that she wrote in a dream. On “Moon Song,” she takes a characteristically blunt dig at the rock canon: “We hate ‘Tears in Heaven’/But it’s sad his baby died,” she sings. “We fought about John Lennon/Until I cried.”
