Oh, I thought you meant you're voting Biden in the primary because Liz dropped out. That's fine.

This thread is only for those who voted or plan to vote for a progressive (Bernie or Liz) in the primary. Biden Bros have the 2020 US Election thread to enjoy until November.

Oh I voted Liz in the primary don't worry!

I love Warren and she is right about the Bernie Bros... They are too puritanical. You can disagree with compromising too early without totally degrading and demonizing someone. With that said Bernie should’ve stood by the people supporting him.

tbqh Bernie shouldn’t have run as a Democrat. He’s don’t nothing to make the party better from the inside until he had already run for president. Elizabeth Warren on the other hand has been working with people to change the platform from within and making sure the right people are in the right places.

Bernie did more to shift the national Democratic party in 2016 than Warren has in her entire career. I literally cannot pin a single issue that Warren helped direct to get the entire party behind. Bernie scared the Democratic party shitless on the issue of M4A that nearly all the prominent centrists candidates tried to capitalize on its popularity. The Green New Deal is also now a popular progressive idea that he helped bring in the forefront. Warren has the wealth tax... something that Bernie has also advocated for, just not as vocally. Warren’s key issue has always been corruption, but that all comes back to taking on the establishment because the Democratic party itself is also corrupt. Elizabeth Warren has been unable to call that out, Bernie has and has become the most visible voice on that issue.

Sorry, but in no way, shape, or form has Warren done a tenth as much to advance the progressive movement as Bernie Sanders. He moved the party and gave way for The Squad to hold positions of power to further that fight in the House.

Green New Deal

Universal health coverage/Reproductive rights for all

Free tuition/child care

Debt elimination

Housing plans

Less financial resources in military
Removal of Wall Street, conglomerate businesses in politics aka lobbyists

End cancer causing fracking

I'm here! The above is what mainstream media and Biden/Trump fans are fighting against. Centrists dems too so I can't with them right now. I will never forget how the establishment turned their backs against progress. Siri, open note "Great, thank you Hillary Clinton"

I had an interesting thought earlier today... I wonder if Bernie and other progressive democrats that have heavy weight in Congress should leave the Democrat party to create a new major third party. It could be called the New Democrat Party,  Independence Party or Progressive Party. I strongly believe we need to send a message to the moderate/centrists that their neoliberalism policies days are over.

My question about this approach is whether it would at all be viable, and what it might look like in the end. Even ignoring the massive effort it might take to convince some people to vote for a new party, the infrastructure buildout, the canvassing and organizing... existing structures and parties can only be relied on so much since their membership isn't astronomical, and there are leftist parties that would strongly resist any attempt to consolidate support without being given the strongest position in crafting a platform. It's a super interesting idea, but I wonder what form it would take in the end, were we to make a serious attempt at challenging the dominance of the existing two-party system.

I wouldn't be comfortable with elected officials being left to their own devices in a Dem Exit scenario, though, it needs to be grassroots driven first.

Today is Elizabeth's last day to endorse Bernie, not that it will make much of a difference tomorrow but ...if she sits it out or endorses Biden, its over for her , even her supporters who say she is a true progressive won't be able to defend her. I predicted long ago that she will never endorse, but today is the day to see....

Tbh as someone who really likes Liz and her personality, and what she stands for, if she Didn’t wait until today to endorse Bernie because today it’ll bring hype for tomorrow - then I’ll be sorely disappointed. Today is a break or make moment for her and the progressive movement. It’s so disheartening to see Bernie being pushed back by the establishment like this.

The left as it exists today would not exist without Bernie. He didn't run a perfect campaign but he has had EVERY single conventional and established interest against him for like 6 years. Don't go too hard on him. A huge part of this campaign has ALWAYS been about building a movement that will outlive Bernie himself, which he's been able to do unimaginably well.

I definitelly think people (including myself) are placing far too much emphasis on the (national) electoral aspect of the movement when its arguably the least important part. Not me, us means something.

Yes of course, I know this and appreciate him , he has moved alot of people further left..I just really need him to be tougher, especially now, I don't want him to keep giving the media those sound bites. He kinda has nothing to lose and is seen as divisive anyway, so I want him to shatter Bidens electability argument. :heart2: that clip.

I can't find any relevant recent polling at a quick glance, but I don't think any of them are currently considered to be at risk of losing a primary challenge or their general election.

Because I have zero interest in volunteering for Biden, I did some research over the weekend on the candidates running for senate in my state (to unseat Joni Ernst :pukey:), found the most progressive candidate, and just signed up to start volunteering for their campaign. If any of y'all are in states with vulnerable senate seats, I suggest looking into the primaries so you can help get a progressive into the race!

Same

Even after all the mess I was convinced she would back Bernie. I think it's because she sees it as a sinking ship & is maybe looking for policy concessions from Biden, but still, its completely unacceptable. The way she decided to just willingly become everything the bros said she was its truly stunning

There were recent mayoral, city council seats etc in my area that past and got good candidates in. My representative (Tonko), is alright. He doesnt face a serious challenge primary wise or in the general so not much going on for me. Several good congressional candidates in NYC though like Lauren Ashcraft who everyone should check out and donate to if they can!

This is where my head is at at the moment. I’m not sending Joe Biden a cent of my money, especially given that Bloomberg is backing him and Biden is allegedly considering to give him a position in his cabinet. He doesn’t need my money (nor has he earned it). So, instead, I’m going to submit my political efforts to helping downballot races. I’m hoping the more progressive candidate in the primary race to be McConnell’s opponent wins, but whoever wins will be getting my support because McConnell’s gotta go.

There's a progressive candidate against McConnell? I was wondering if you were going to volunteer for Ms. McGrath even though you don't like ha  Seems like she probably has raised the most money/media attention and I assumed she was the only serious contender.
