Round Two: Scores & Results

Bad Things - 7.5/10 - Absolutely love this, probably more so than the original cover. Perfect image choice, though I wish you had used a higher quality image of the original cover – also there are some blending issues where you got rid of the Ariana Grande text – and maybe you could have been a bit more creative with the border.

 

Hurem -7.5/10 - I like it, but I feel as though you could have altered the image of Gaga to appear more dangerous (maybe darken the hat or a piece of spiked leather around the hat, or completely alter/change the hat to something more dangerous or sensual) because to me it doesn’t capture the essence of the original cover.

 

Dom - 7/10 - It’s good, I think it would have been better to flip the hat though – looks a little weird the way it is. Also Lana and the text don’t look centered, which is slightly annoying.

 

URBAN - 8/10 - Love it, there’s nothing I can really critique on.

 

DivaCup - 7/10- blending around the edges of her face needs a little more work, and there needs to be a slight shadow on her face under the hat, for it to seem more believable. Other than that, nice work!

 

Jonathan - 6.5/10 - I like the choice of image, that being said I think you could have been a bit more creative in altering the image to reference the original cover more, such as lightening her hair to a similar pastel colour as the Joanne hat.

 

theycallmemaraj - 6/10 - Interesting image choice. It just feels as though not much has been done. You could have altered her outfit to something iconic of hers, or given her a ponytail - something along those lines.

 

Rian - 7.5/10 - Really nice work! My only issue is that I wish you had kept the red colouring or changed it to a colour other than yellow (maybe a rich blue), as it washes out the impact of the crown.

 

Phoenixstar - 8/10 - Love it! Love how it’s different from original cover, but still feels like the original. One thing I would change is the font choice for Leona Lewis to something softer or cursive.

 

Bellerophon - 8.5/10 - Amazing! It’s edgy and feels more modern that the original cover - can’t find anything to fault either.

 

Desire - 6/10 - The image of Troye isn’t of good quality. The cropping of the hat also isn’t good – and that drop shadow is not need (please stop using them).

 

Flavs - 8.5/10 - Love it, very sexy! Only issue is the spacing under the text, I think it should be lower.

 

Alesus - 7.5/10 - Good work, feels more like a recreation than something that was inspired by the original cover.

 

SaintWest - 8/10 - Very nice! It would have been even better if you had included the iconic red and gold colouring in some way – not necessarily in the crown and the background, but in a more creative way – for example changing her darker skin tone to shades of red and her lighter patterns to gold – that would have looked amazing tbh.

 

Sabbath - 7/10 - I like the idea behind it, but the execution could have been better – some cropping issues – and the levels could have been adjusted to make it a little darker and lessen the intensity of the whites. Good work though!

 

 

Melon

Bad Things - Love this. There's some blurring around Selena but I can't tell if that's from the original picture or from you cutting her out, so I won't critique on that. I agree with LiMe though. The frame is kind of LQ. It really shows with the DW text. Not a fan of the Selena font either. It worked for Ariana's name but Selena's looks weird to me. idk. And the watermark in the top right corner.. Overall it's still a slay so I'll give it 8.5/10

Hurem - So much potential. But the back of the hat being in front of the frame just kills it for me. I can't look at it without seeing that. 6/10

Dom - The picture choice is cute. Lana looks like an icon! The hat looks bad on her though. I wish you would've ditched it completely and made her shirt pink. Other than that the only thing I see bad, is the cut out. In some spots there's super sharp edges (the hair, the shoulders). 6.5/10

URBAN - Zayn released MoM on lime green vinyl. Keep up pls. I looked up the original picture, and you slayed this. It doesn't even look like you edited it tbh. The text looks weird to me though? Maybe because it's all scrunched up. 9/10

DivaCup - I like that you decided to change the hat. But everything after that just kind of falls slat. The shadow from the hat just disappears on her forehead. The left side of the hat is choppy and parts of it are missing. The face still has rough edges from the lack of blending. The pictures were both pretty LQ, especially the one used for the face. The text would be fine, but you added a glow and I'm not sure why. 5/10

Jonathan - I like the more creative approach of ditching the hat and picking up the blue background, text, and nude pose. The cut out is pretty rough though. 6/10

theycallmemaraj - My biggest complaint is that the text isn't centered. You should've ditched the baby picture aesthetic so you could find a better quality picture though. 5/10

Rian - A slay. One of my favorites of the bunch. The "ANTI" part is the only thing I want to comment on. It looks really sharp, and I'm not a fan of how the N kind of fades near the necklace. That's nitpicky, I know. 9/10

Phoenix - Super good. I love that you kept the bunny ears, but didn't use Ariana's. They have a white border around them though. I also don't like the gradient on her name. 8.5/10

Belle - You're growing right in front of us. This is really good for a beginner. I just don't like the drop shadow on the crown. 8/10

Desire - I just don't know what to say about this. Troye looks really bad. I didn't know his neck was that long. It's just a really unflattering picture of him, not to mention LQ. The cut out is alright, until you get to the nose and forehead (of which a piece is missing). And then we get to the drop shadow.. Please avoid using them. 5/10

Flavs - Agree with LiMe on the text being lower. Other than that, I just wish you would've made the explicit tag yellow like on the Starboy cover. still a 9.5/10

Alesus - Really good. Love the distorted effect. The balloon is LQ though. And instead of it having the effect, it just has shadows. On her right arm, the red part has a random area where it goes straight down. Not really that noticeable, but yeah.. 8/10

SaintWest - Superb. The balloons just feel random to me. Wish they weren't there. The lack of color doesn't even bother me. 9.5/10

Sabbath - A newly made Coverlandia account tea. I do appreciate that you tried to mix a baby picture with something current, like the original cover. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out the greatest. You are a beginner though, so I'll go easy. 7/10

 

Latch

Bad Things - 8/10 - good job at sticking to the original aesthetic with the gloves, but I wish you wouldn't have used the same border and font as the real thing.

Hurem - 6/10 - this one doesn't feel very "dangerous." it would've worked better with an image of Gaga in some edgy, latex getup or maybe even one of her many Terry Richardson shots.

Dom - 7/10 - it's nice all in all, but it's very safe and very close to the original. she didn't necessarily have to be in front of a blue backdrop with the text in the same place as the original image.

Urban - 7/10 - it's nice to look at, but this one is also very close to the style of the original and i feel like going this route would've worked more effectively with a childhood photo.

DivaCup - 5/10 - this looks more like a meme than an album cover. there's nothing wrong with being a little witty, but this just seems like you took the challenge as a joke.

Jonathan - 5/10 - this one is also not very creative and doesn't look much unlike the original album cover. this also wasn't the best photo to use for a side profile cutout.

theycallmemaraj - 7/10 - unadventurous, it works. would look nicer if the picture was better quality, but I understand childhood photos aren't always easy to find.

Rian - 7/10 - i like that you used gold instead of red, but it honestly would've looked nicer with just the crown over her eyes.

Phoenixstar - 8/10 - would've been better without the polaroid border, imo.

Bellerophon - 8/10 - i don't really have any issues with this one.

Desire - 6/10 - it would've looked nicer if it wasn't aimed at trying to look like the original.

Flavs - 7/10 - clever title change.

Alesus - 8/10 - very well edited, but pretty much the same as the original.

SaintWest - 8/10 - i like that you got a little creative with this one, but i think a more minimal approach would've be more aesthetically pleasing.

Sabbath - 8/10 - the editing isn't perfect but it's a very clever use of the "young me + older me" concept and i like that you used the ribbon text logo.

Everyone else did great job in this round  And it is sad that Desire is leaving in this round.

I loved everything about it. Yours was the obvious #1 standout for me. You successfully recreated the DW aesthetic but added your own twist to it.  

Did you add the bunny ears or were they on Leona already for that one shoot?

Aww thanks a lot. It means lot to me that someone really liked my creativ.

Actually, I had to add it. It was so frustrating that I almost gave up and decided not to use an actual one that was used in DW.
