Spoiler

SPRING

Kacey Musgraves: I definitely get a spring vibe from this! The light but relaxing feel of the song matches spring well, and the lyrical references to nature also contribute to that. Good entry!

Hyuna: The lyrics fit spring very well with all their references to flowers and greenery. I don’t instantly get spring vibes from the production, but I also don’t think it’s inconsistent with spring, so overall this is a good choice.

SUMMER

Ariana Grande: The instrumental definitely has a summery feel to it. I guess the sexiness of the lyrics fits summer, but overall this doesn’t instantly scream summer to me, so I wish you had used your explanation a bit better to sell the choice.

Rihanna: The tropical production of this song is extremely summery and this is definitely a song that feels like it’s meant to be played on a hot summer night. I don’t think the lyrics match summer as well as you suggest, but your explanation is really strong and so largely saved that. Great job!

Katy Perry: Yup yup yup. I know this was an obvious choice, but I don’t care because this is just the perfect prototype of a summer song. Production is summery, lyrics are summery, everything about it is summery.

Lorde: This is kind of the opposite to a lot of the other entires so far - the song doesn’t sound super summery to me, but the lyrics definitely capture the adventurous and carefree feelings of a youthful summer. Your explanation also sold the choice well, so points for that.

Nicki Minaj: Another obvious choice, but again, it’s a strong and logical choice so I can’t complain. The lyrics are obviously very well connected to summer. I always thought this song could have sounded a bit more summery given that it’s literally about summer, but that’s a very minor critique.

Alicia Keys: Hm… I appreciate your strong explanation so you get points for that, and I hear a little bit of summer in this, but overall this doesn’t sound like a summer song to me, and the lyrics don’t really do anything to change that.

Janelle Monae: The chorus sounds VERY summery, and you’re right that funk music generally has a summer feel, but I don’t get much of a summer vibe from the verses.

Miguel: Ok now THIS is a funk song that feels summery throughout the entire song. There’s also a lot of little references throughout the lyrics that create a summer picture. Great entry!

MARINA: This song feels like it’s a love letter to the season of summer. The light, breezy production and all the references to trees, heat and the ocean combine to create a definite summer feel.

Demi Lovato: So despite this having “summer” in its title, this song kind of goes back and forth for me where some moments feel very summery while others don’t feel summery at all. The lyrics don’t intuitively seem summery, but your explanation is really strong, so points for that.

Fifth Harmony: This is another one where the production feels EXTREMELY summery, but nothing in the lyrics screams summer other than the general sexiness and the one reference to waves. It definitely sounds like a summer song, though, so it’s a pretty good choice.

Miley Cyrus: The light and airy production of this song sometimes crosses over into a spring feel, but the references to water, beaches and the sun help justify it being put under summer. Overall it kind of gives me a May vibe - starting to feel like summer but not actually summer yet.

Years & Years: I mean, points for the song being called “Sunlight” I guess, but the production and most of the lyrics outside of the heat references don’t give me a summer vibe at all. I think the problem is that this song is kind of generic so it doesn’t feel particularly connected to ANY season.

LOONA: This feels way more like spring than summer to me - the light and cute production feels a lot like spring and a lot of the lyrical references are more reminiscent of spring than summer to me. Even your own explanation’s references to colours and flowers makes me think you should have characterized this under spring.

FALL

Lana Del Rey: I really like your explanation and I agree there’s a solid argument to make for this being under fall. That being said, the instrumental and a lot of vocal moments feel very wintery at times.

The Weeknd: Just like you say in your explanation, this really sounds like fall to me even though I can’t really explain why. I wish you had used your explanation a bit better though - by saying “all of his mixtapes” sound like fall, you didn’t really make a case for why this specific song was your best choice.

WINTER

Celine Dion: Ok go off, Ms. Essay Writer. Anyways wow, I’ve heard this song a lot before but forgot just how much of a winter feel it has. The wind blowing in the background, the bright piano, the jingle bells, the lyrical references to the cold and seeking warmth. Excellent choice.

Fantasia: I’m really surprised more people didn’t go with Christmas songs for this round tbh. Anyways, I think your explanation sells this choice really well, as the song’s a much more nuanced depiction of winter than the typical Christmas song. The very jazzy feel sometimes veers ever-so-slightly into a fall sound, but that’s a very small critique.

Tinashe: Sorry but this doesn’t give me winter vibes whatsoever - the message of the song doesn’t connect to winter in any way I can think of (and your really short explanation didn’t help with that), and the production sounds much more fall to me than winter. The song being called “Stormy Weather” also doesn’t really help because it could just as easily be referring to a rainstorm in fall or spring.

Ellie Goulding: I was hoping you would pick this song - I completely agree with your explanation that the operatic and classical production gives off major winter vibes. The lyrics/message don’t feel perfectly like winter, but the overall feeling of reminiscing does match winter pretty well.

Kelly Clarkson: Again, very surprised only 2 people chose Christmas songs. This is basically the winter version of Katy’s choice for me - it’s an obvious choice, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it feels like a winter song in every aspect. Clear Christmas lyrics and very wintery production.

Spoiler

Oh, What a World: A lovely little ditty, and it captures plenty of vivid spring imagery. My nitpicky critique is that a few more things somewhat related to other seasons are present, but ultimately you did a great job!

Flower Shower: The sweet vocals, the cute Mario-esque beat, and the lyrics, yeah this fits well.

Side to Side: Summer smash for the ages.

Work: The repetitiveness is what makes this work so well for me? Both as a song and as a summery pick.

California Gurls: God the song is awful and dated, but it does give a summer vibe mainly for being a summer smash hit.

Homemade Dynamite: So we all know the album is this hot summer party-hangover-love-regret introspective masterpiece, so any songs would virtually fit. This isn’t quite in-your-face summer as others might expect but it for me it’s a match.

Hot Girl Summer: A #1 smash hit if I ever saw one. It’s perfect for the round, really, and a great great jam.

In Common: This is not as in-your-face summer but, once again, I think it’s a good pick. This type of R&B can be warm and summery, y’all!

Make Me Feel: A hot poolside bombastic SONG. The guitars sell this as what it is.

Pineapple Skies: Accessible, fun bop which is what summer is all about. Above those, it’s so warm like midday Sun.

Orange Trees: Awful song that maden me shred whatever was left of my stan card. That said, it fits the theme in a way that couldn’t be any more straightforward (albeit safe) if it tried.

Cool for the Summer: Her best song and one of the best entries this round.

All in My Head (Flex): Possibly the most basic song pick, but it fits well so.

Malibu: I was never a fan of this horse girl **** after her Hannah days, it’s more of a song racists play at campfires than a summer song, but I digress.

Sunlight: Uhhh this is a bit of a stretch. It’s not that unique to summer more than, say, any dumb edm song for a party, and also it’s meh.

Love Cherry Motion: It’s very nice and it fits. It sounds early 00s but manages to avoid sounding dated.

Terrence Loves You: So seasonal and on.brand. It’s a bummer Lana didn’t do much more jazz stuff in this era, which was the best to do so.

Montreal: An airy vocal and distant drums for Fall? I think I’m gonna give that a soft “yes”.

It’s All Coming Back to Me Now: This reminds me of a certain scam image edit from a certain other game from a certain Asian hoest :fan: It’s perfect with the theme of loss, the choir and the jingling.

The Snow Is Falling: Another jazz surprise this round! She emotes excellently and once again, feelings of loneliness/loss that are just oh so wintery. Keep it up.

Stormy Weather: I don’t… really see it? If anything, I’m getting rainy fall day staying indoors with her man.

Explosions: The choir and the piano can do no wrong for a winter feel. She’s taking us to mass in the middle of January and it’s cute!

Wrapped in Red: A decent Christmas song.

Spoiler

Kacey Musgraves: Ah my favorite song from the album, you kinda snapped with this song and season choice, it’s not as straightforward as others but it still fits spring perfectly without being a reach.

Ariana Grande: I mean yes this is a fun song to play during the summer, the beat specially gives it that summery feel, the lyrics however don’t seem exclusive to summer but you can’t have it all I guess.

Celine Dion: Stunning but please die already.

Rihanna: Now this is a good explanation, the song is definitely a summer bop and I agree with everything you said, I got nothing to add, good job for once fatso.

Katy Perry: Yup! Lyrics and music are perfect for the summer.

Lorde: I really like the song but to call it a summer song it’s to me at least a bit of a reach. However it doesn’t feel completely unfitting for the season and your explanation helps selling the lyrics so not a bad entry I suppose.

Nicki Minaj: Next time send the audio track, I’m white/latin, I don’t need to hear all that dialogue from the beginning. Anyways this is the first time I hear this and I’m loving it, a summer banger, great job. The instrumental saves it for me.

Hyuna: So I’m not feeling this song as much as your other entries but yeah the lyrics are obviously fitting for spring so good job x

Alicia Keys: Yeah this sounds like a summer song, perhaps a bit too generic summer song but I don’t hate it.

Janelle Monae: Whew the amount of 10’s this round, great song! Wtf happened at 2:50 though, girl send an official video.

Miguel: I LOVE this song.gif his voice, the lyrics, the bass :jonny: an 11 if I could give one.

Fantasia: This is cute, kinda the same approach as fatbox but not as stunning.

Lana Del Rey: I can see this fitting the fall scenery you describe in your explanation but the song itself doesn’t really take me there you know, not a bad match but a bit of a reach in my opinion. I wish you would’ve also made a case for the lyrics. The song is gorgeous so that helps.

The Weeknd: Um I guess? I would have appreciated this unusual song - season selection if you had delivered a better explanation.

MARINA: Probably the lesser out of all the summer songs so far, it sounds generic and her vocal delivery boring. Yeah it hits all the marks for a summer track but I personally wouldn’t use it.

Demi Lovato: Ahh back to the classics, this is great, she did what she had to do and deserved to crack the top 10 unlike the screaming fest that is sorry not sorry but anyways.

Fifth Harmony: Omg I hate that rapper’s voice it kinda ruins it for me. Aside from that it doesn’t hit as hard as other summer entries, and comparison it’s what you all get for going with probably the easiest (besides christmas music) and most basic season, but still a cute lil’ choice.

Miley Cyrus: I love it (too bad the album was ****), the sound is quite refreshing compared to most of the other summer entries but it still fits the season, that’s all I have to say, excellent choice.

Years & Years: The lyrics are more fitting for summer than some other entries I’ll give it that but the generic instrumental makes this quite a bland forgettable song.

Tinashe: “fits winter perfect cause the stormy weather and dark vibes” I guess not x

Love the song though.

LOONA: I don’t think we’re supposed to judge the videos luv. The song is really cute, a bop for the most part, I can see it being used for the summer as it has that light carefree vibe although I think it would’ve also worked for spring? It goes well with summer nonetheless.

Ellie Goulding: “I selected it cause it’s a ballad” ok? You could’ve done a better job making the connection with the season in your explanation because as it stands only the “harrowing vocals” make it sound wintery to me. The song itself is decent, don’t love it, don’t hate it.

Kelly Clarkson: Very straightforward, it’s alright, love underneath the tree more x
