ATRL Moderator kelly-clarkson Posted January 3, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2020 Christina Perri has great songs. I'm not a fan of her singles but she has amazing album tracks (like "Tragedy", it's so beautiful). Happier it's soo good
Green Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Walk is one of my favorite Foo Fighters songs ever Wow Higher Love charting so high Love Never Felt So Good, Love the way you lie, Stay, It's time, Heart is a Drum, Houdini, Happier, Waste a moment, Some Nights
Mr. Loco Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Love the way you lie is a real masterpiece I'm not here for The monster shade tho You should keep checking on him, he has released some great songs this decade (Headlights, River, Venom) A thousnand years is beautiful!! And I took a pill in Ibiza is a bop
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 3, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2020 A Thousand Years, Up We Go, Higher Love
Remmy Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Never really cared for I Took a Pill In Ibiza But there were worse hits that year. Love Never Felt So Good was cute. Jack taking over this set with 3 different bands/groups, whew I Wanna Get Better is incredible. Waste a Moment really did deserve better, they got my attention back with that one. A Thousand Years, Little Talks, Love the Way You Lie, Stay, Some Nights, Happier I agree, Houdini > PUK and it's also the best from that album It's Time + Let It Go are lovely LIG & HBTR are pretty much on the same level for me. Quote I haven't listened to them, but I didn't really like the other singles apart from a little bit of Perfect. Maybe I'll give them a chance though. Oh don't even get me started on the singles Both eras were cut too short and the lead singles were not only weak choices, but they also didn't represent the albums well. Perfect is a MITAM highlight
Spartak92 Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Half Love, Walk, Little Talks, It's Time, Riptide, I Took a Pill In Ibiza, Higher Love, Houdini, Some Nights, Chocolate, Happier great choices
Ivan Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 A lot of great song here, I Took A Pill In Ibiza and Little Talks are my favorites Some Nights, Let It Go and Love Never Felt So Good are quite good as well but they just weren't so great in comparison to other during the decade IMO
potent Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 Singles 50-26 50 Christina Aguilera – You Lost Me [2010] Ok NMT sucked but this one really deserved better… 49 Twenty One Pilots – Ride [2015] Perfect blend of their traditional introspective lyrics and rap-rock sound with a more mainstream appealing reggae-influenced beat. 48 Adele – Set Fire to the Rain [2012] I thought Adele would be higher honestly, but I’m not sure her songs stand out as well as I’d like. She’s still a world class vocalist and undoubtedly one of the top artists, if not the top artist of our generation. 47 The Lumineers – Cleopatra [2016] A very beautiful song with heartbreaking lyrics and video. I know this is not exactly the type of music ATRL likes but I really wish people would at least give it a chance. 46 B.o.B – Airplanes (feat. Hayley Williams) [2010] I don’t like Paramore (don’t @ me) but this was the perfect combination tbh. Definitely the most memorable of all the rap verses and pop chorus trend of the early 2010s. 45 Passenger – Let Her Go [2013] Another song unfairly hated by ATRL. You guys like plenty of female artists with weird voices so what’s wrong with this? The lyrics are super basic but that’s what makes them relatable. 44 The Chainsmokers – Roses (feat. Rozes) Remember when they had everyone’s attention for a hot second before we all went back to thinking they were untalented and useless? This is still a bop though, it has this emotional kind of reminiscent feeling that really hooks you in. 43 HAIM – The Wire [2013] This song doesn’t exactly hit you on the first listen but it gets into your head and you find yourself playing it over and over again until you can’t get enough. Probably the indie-pop smash of the decade that got away. 42 Foxes – Better Love [2016] It was between this and Holding onto Heaven, but I really like the enchanting chorus here, her and Dan Smith should do a full collaboration sometime. 41 Troye Sivan – Youth [2016] Despite being rather basic there’s something about this song that just sucks me in, it’s so happy and hopeful yet chill at the same time and the lyrics along with the music video really reinforce that. 40 Coldplay – Paradise [2011] Despite chasing current trends throughout the decade Coldplay still seem to be secure in their identity as a band. This was probably their best full on pop single and the video was definitely memorable lol. 39 Jessie Ware – Say You Love Me [2014] This is actually an Ed Sheeran co-write which if you think about it makes sense, since it’s very reminiscent of his earlier work (Give Me Love teas). Jessie however makes it her own and while she has plenty of great songs I think this one resonated with me the most. 38 Kesha – Praying [2017] At first I didn’t really like this song because despite appreciating the message, it felt too cheesy and overdone. However I eventually came to enjoy it and over time it even surpassed her earlier work for me. Too bad her most recent stuff is subpar… 37 SHAED – Trampoline [2019] I said everything I needed to say about this song in my Best of 2019, but yeah if you like Billie I don’t see any reason you wouldn’t be able to get into this! 36 Bat for Lashes – Laura [2012] Back then I didn’t really pay attention to what was critically acclaimed, so I had no idea about this song when it came out. However the emotion behind the lyrics combined with the stripped down nature of the production made it immediately become one of my favorites. 35 Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know [2013] I miss when slow burning rock jams like this could be popular, at least on alternative radio. 34 Ariana Grande – No Tears Left to Cry [2018] While I’ll admit Ariana is talented her music just seems too manufactured to me, like she’s just doing it for money and not because she actually likes it. However this song convinced me, apart from being super catchy I appreciate the lyrical content of moving on from the Manchester bombing while still acknowledging how terrible it was. Her best song by far, Into You stans can rot. 33 Foals – Mountain at My Gates [2015] One of the best anthemic rock songs of the decade with the powerful vocals to back it up. 32 The Band Perry – If I Die Young [2010] The lyrics definitely give you something to think about and the vocal delivery only reinforces the somber nature of the song. Probably the best country crossover of the decade. 31 Janelle Monae – Make Me Feel [2018] A bop! She takes heavy inspiration from the 80s while still managing to put her fresh creative twist on it. 30 Gorillaz – On Melancholy Hill [2010] Despite only releasing an album every five years or so Gorillaz still manage to deliver quality every time. This is probably their most pop oriented song to date but I love the imagery it creates, it feels like you’re floating through a dream. I don’t really follow the story of the video but I have to admit it’s really creative. 29 The Neighbourhood – Sweater Weather [2013] It kills me to see people calling this song a snoozefest because while everyone is entitled to their opinion, it makes me think they haven’t really listened to it carefully enough. Combined with the lyrics and production a slow melancholy sound is actually perfect for the vibe it’s trying to create. 28 The Weeknd – Starboy (feat. Daft Punk) [2016] Apparently because The Weeknd struck gold with this song he feels like he can last the rest of his career making shameless retreads. It’s still a great song though that definitely felt fresh at the time. 27 Christine & the Queens – Girlfriend [2018] A huge bop and I think it managed to surpass Tilted as my favorite song of hers. 26 P!nk – Raise Your Glass [2010] Despite being rather generic like most hits from that year, P!nk managed to put her personal touch on it and inject humor into the lyrics and video that makes it rise above the average pop girl release. So the top 25 is: Arcade Fire • Beyonce • Billie Eilish • Cee Lo Green • CHVRCHES • Demi Lovato • Drake • Ed Sheeran • Florence + the Machine • A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera • Grouplove • Hozier • Katy Perry • Kendrick Lamar & SZA • Lana Del Rey • Lizzo • Lorde • Lukas Graham (don’t @ me) • OneRepublic • Passion Pit • Sam Smith • Tame Impala • Two Door Cinema Club • Vampire Weekend • The xx Any predictions? Also, an “extra” segment to make up for the late update: 10 Really Terrible Hit Songs of the Decade (in no particular order) Cher Lloyd – Want U Back Fifth Harmony – Worth It (feat. Kid Ink) Iggy Azalea – Fancy (feat. Charli XCX) Maroon 5 – Memories Panic! At the Disco – High Hopes Post Malone – Psycho (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) Rachel Platten – Fight Song Selena Gomez & the Scene – Love You Like a Love Song Shawn Mendes – Stitches Will.I.Am & Britney Spears – Scream & Shout

The other 2 though even with an Ed Sheeran feat River didn't get my attention
Green Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 What a great set My favorites are You lost me, Set fire to the rain, Ride, Starboy, Raise Your Glass, On Melancholy Hill, Do I Wanna Know, No Tears Left to Cry, Paradise, Say You Love Me, Praying, Trampoline, Make Me Feel I love Set fire to the rain but I prefer the first 2 singles from 21 (RITD & SLY).
JGibson Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Do I Wanna Know? + Raise Your Glass + Sweater Weather + On Melancholy Hill + Make Me Feel + Mountain At My Gates + Paradise + Trampoline + Set Fire To The Rain + Ride + Cleopatra + Airplanes + Let Her Go + The Wire Agree with Fancy, Worth It, and Scream & Shout on the terrible list, while I disagree with High Hopes, Fight Song, and Memories.
Brandon Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 ?????????,????????,???????,?????????? & ???????
Ivan Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Raise Your Glass, No Tears Left To Cry and You Lost Me are really great On Melancholy Hill is amazing
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 6, 2020 ATRL Moderator Posted January 6, 2020 Worth It on the worst list You Lost Me, SFTTR, Praying, Say You Love Me, Raise Your Glass, Sweater Weather
rvx Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 No Tears Left To Cry + Starboy + If I Die Young + Trampoline + Praying + Airplanes + Set Fire To The Rain + Ride + Roses
Remmy Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Well... 2013 was the year when I felt top 40 music starting to get weaker, and part of that was because of Let Her Go & Sweater Weather You Lost Me really deserved to be Christina's 2nd biggest song, behind Hurt. Girlfriend and Mountain at My Gates are decent, Starboy is nice but feels a bit too high. If I Die Young is one of the few 2010s country hits I cared for, YUP Airplanes, Paradise & ntltc You went with the right Foxes song Ride + Raise Your Glass Set Fire to the Rain, Roses, YOUTH, Praying, Make Me Feel "I don’t like Paramore (don’t @ me)" "Lukas Graham (don’t @ me)" "Into You stans can rot." Sorry but you deserve to be @-ed for the rest of your life until these issues are corrected! @potent @potent @potent Top 10 Worst Hits~ Worth It is actually one of the few 5H songs I can tolerate, even though it's still not great. No complaints w/ Memories and Psycho. I like everything else But I can understand why people would be annoyed with Want U Back, Fancy, Fight Song, Scream & Shout. Stitches could be better, too.
Mr. Loco Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 No tears left to cry is such a bop! My favorite Ariana song Let her go is really beautiful, i don't get why anyone would hate on it, same as Paradise! I wonder which masterpiece from Katy will make the top 25 (hope whichever it is, gets top 10 at least ) Don't get the hate for Fancy tho
TheWayWeWere Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 RYG is great, don't get the hate for it MMF still sounds so fresh, this should've been on top of the charts instead of someone like Brno Mars Say You Love Me we love some good Sheeran writing NTLTC, The Wire, STFTR ugh, perfection Airplanes omg, nice to see some YLM love
Kiss It Better Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 tea spilled on Starboy, he can't stop making rehash of it Make Me Feel and Roses
jose168 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 Praying, On Melancholy Hill, and Girlfriend are my favorites. I also enjoyed Sweater Weather and Starboy!
potent Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 Singles 25-11 25 The xx – Say Something Loving [2017] I was never a huge fan of The xx but in 2017 they were kinda killing it. This song sounds so cool and ethereal. 24 Two Door Cinema Club – Something Good Can Work [2010] One of the best indie jams of the decade. The folk influences give it a unique touch and the fast paced chorus is impossible not to sing along to even if you mess up the words. I appreciate TDCC’s new style but I wish they’d go back to this type of music once in a while. 23 Lukas Graham – 7 Years [2016] This is a great song and I don’t care what ATRL says! The story telling lyrics might not be particularly easy to follow but it’s the emotion in Lukas’ voice that really makes it come to life. 22 Lizzo – Juice [2019] An 80s inspired bop oozing with personality. I know she’s already in her 30s but I hope she sticks around at least a little while longer. 21 Billie Eilish – Bury a Friend [2019] And here’s our highest 2019 song. Dancing with a Stranger was my #1 for that year, but Sam is actually still to come with a different song. Anyway it’s only fitting that it comes from Billie Eilish, one of the most representative artists of the year with one of the most creative styles. 20 OneRepublic – Good Life [2011] I can actually see why this was the most popular song from Waking Up. It might not hit you as immediately as Secrets or All the Right Moves but there’s this wistful nostalgic feeling about it that really gets under your skin. 19 Tame Impala – The Less I Know the Better [2016] One of many indie tracks in this set. It’s poppier than Tame Impala’s typical work but it still has that unique edge that makes them special, and the video is such a trip. 18 Kendrick Lamar & SZA – All the Stars [2018] Perfect combination of Kendrick’s lyrical wit and rapping style with a sleek pop chorus that lifts it to another level. It should’ve been a multi week #1. 17 A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera – Say Something [2013] Even during her flop decade Xtina still managed to maintain some sort of GP interest. I’ll admit I didn’t like this song at first because of the guy’s voice, but eventually I got used to it and anyway it’s not really fair to discredit AGBW when it was their song to begin with. Their recent collab falls short though or maybe I was just expecting too much. 16 Grouplove – Good Morning [2017] I know I’ve used the word “catchy” to describe many songs in this list, but this song takes it to another level. It’s absolutely irresistible, I just can’t get that pre chorus chant out of my head. Check it out if you don’t know it. 15 Demi Lovato – Cool for the Summer [2015] I think this is the second highest pop girl song on this list (although there are plenty of female entries to go). It’s fierce, fresh with lots of energy and above all a vocal display that puts her peers to shame. 14 Arcade Fire – Ready to Start [2010] Their Suburbs album is probably the indie rock masterpiece of the decade tbh and this is the magnum opus. It’s the perfect combination of 70s and 80s influence with a modern sound and a set of great lyrics to go along with it. 13 Hozier – Take Me to Church [2013] Another song that took quite some time to sink in for me. I just found it boring and couldn’t understand the hype behind it. However I eventually came to appreciate the emotion behind the lyrics, vocals, and especially the video. He didn’t deserve to be a one hit wonder, he actually released an album this past year that is also worth the listen. 12 Passion Pit – Carried Away [2013] If I haven’t made it obvious already I just love this type of music. It’s fresh, unique, and fun to listen to. However Passion Pit really amped up the electronic influences to give their music a whole new energy. This is the perfect example, that chorus is just irresistible. 11 Cee Lo Green – **** You [2010] And the best Bruno song of the decade (by far tbh) is actually a song he gave to someone else. While I do hear Bruno’s fingerprints on this one I don’t think he would’ve pulled it off as well, it takes someone of Cee Lo’s personality and humor to really make it work.

Green Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 **** You, Take Me to Church, Say Something, Good Life, Juice, bury a friend, All the stars are some of my favorites **** You is so good. It was one of the defining songs of the early 10s. Cee Lo and King Bruno did that
