witness1.3 Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 (edited) Hi Everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve been on ATRL. I was looking through everyone's Best of 2019, and got really inspired to do my own! Welcome to my 2019 year-end countdown, where I will be listing my Top 100 Singles, Top 50 Artists, and Top 20 Albums of 2019. Here is how they are calculated. Spoiler The Top 100 Singles includes exclusively songs that were released as official singles, promo singles, or had a music video from 2018-2019. This is to exclude entire albums from cluttering the chart, and to give songs released towards the end of 2018 to be on a year-end chart. Using crownnote and last.fm, a weekly chart is made of my Top 50 songs of the week, assigning a point value to each position. The Top 100 Singles are in order of total point value. This means that a song doesn’t necessarily need more plays than another song in order to chart above it on the year-end. Spoiler The Top 50 Artists is based simply on play counts. Spoiler The Top 20 Albums is based simply on play counts of albums released in 2019. I apparently only listened to 20 albums released in 2019. Lastly, this is the tentative schedule I plan to roll out my countdown. Spoiler 12/29: Singles 100-85 12/30: Singles 84-70 12/31: Singles 69-55 1/1: Singles 54-40, Artists 50-35, Albums 20-15 1/2: Singles 39-26, Artists 34-21, Albums 14-10 1/3: Singles 25-11, Artists 20-11, Albums 9-6 1/4: Singles 10-1, Artists 10-1, Albums 5-1 Edited January 7, 2020 by witness1.3

witness1.3 Posted December 29, 2019 Author Posted December 29, 2019 (edited) Spoiler Spoiler This is a cute little bop, and I’m honestly surprised the Gryffin and Marina collab charted higher on my year-end than this. OMG just barely made it to #100, and honestly deserved to be higher. This is Carly’s first entry of 6, and Gryffin’s first of 2. Spoiler Thanks to an end of 2018 release, Ruin My Life lands on a year-end chart for the second time. It landed at #70 in 2018, and barely makes it onto the list at #99 for 2019. I feel like I enjoyed her 2019 releases more than this one, however I feel like this one didn’t get so tiring so fast? This is Zara’s first entry of 4. Spoiler Spoiler Alright, I know this isn’t a single as defined by my rules, but it’s too good of a song to not let it be on my list. Funnily enough, this placed at #69 in 2018 and #98 in 2019, just one position in front of Ruin My Life two years in a row. This is easily my favorite Bebe song, and truly deserved a full single rollout. This is Bebe’s first entry of 4. Spoiler I feel like Little Mix missed the mark this year. Bounce Back was just catchy enough to make it onto my year-end chart, but not enough to even reach the top 10 of the weekly charts. I will admit that the music video was pretty stellar. This is their only entry this year. Thi Spoiler Bebe's 2nd entry of her 4 came really quick! This song was a nice filler to my summer playlist. This is Jax Jones first entry of 4. Spoiler Phoenix was a solid pop album that I enjoyed for a little bit. Only Want You is one of two Phoenix singles on the year-end chart. Spoiler Spoiler Let’s be real, this song was corny as hell. The one thing it had going for it was it Sweet But Psycho’s borrowed production…. A Baby One More Time / Oops tease. This is Ava’s first entry of 3, and the other 2 songs are much better. Spoiler Spoiler This song really only made it because it had Tove’s name attached to it and had Sunshine Kitty’s release boosting it in play counts. I could never really get into this track as the “sweet sweet sweet” thing just annoys me. This is Tove’s first entry of 5. Spoiler Spoiler I thoroughly enjoyed this song, which is why it was surprising it placed so low on my chart. To be fair, it was charting during summer time which is always the most competitive in my charts. This is Sam’s first entry of 2. Spoiler Spoiler Charli really has a thing for one line choruses that just repeat themselves, but they are always actually enjoyable unlike most others. This is Charli’s first entry of 5. Spoiler Spoiler This song landed at #2 of my 2018 year-end chart, so it’s no surprise it had enough momentum to find itself on the 2019 chart. Despite it’s highest peak in 2019 being #30, it spent 13 weeks on the chart. I remember disliking this song at first, but it grew on me immensely and now its easily a favorite from Ariana. This is Ariana's first entry of a record 9. Spoiler Spoiler Like Bebe, Charli’s next entry on the chart comes quickly after her first. Thanks to a music video release, White Mercedes climbed to a peak of #8, and spent 9 weeks on the chart. Spoiler Spoiler I look back and wonder, how the hell did this song only peak at #22 on my chart?? I didn’t realize how insanely catchy it was until I heard it mashed up with 365 in a 2019 megamix. Normani sweetie, I’m sorry I did you so wrong. Let’s hope we see you higher up on the chart in 2020. This is Normani’s first entry of 2. Spoiler Spoiler This first update had a trend: almost every artist appeared twice. This song is so good, and benefited from a music video release. During a time of stiff competition, it was able to notch a week at #10. In a perfect world, this song would have been #1. Spoiler Spoiler I gave this song a second chance following its music video release and genius lyric breakdown. I feel like its kinda the (ugly) step-sister to the far superior Savages. Despite a peak at #16, To Be Human managed to spend 12 weeks on the chart. Spoiler Spoiler Why did Halsey decide to like be happy and change the direction of her album, because this song was doing the damn thing. It just hits so hard! This is Halsey’s first entry of 3. potent Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 No Tears Left to Cry HDYS is amazing, it deserved to be even higher
ATRL Moderator kelly-clarkson Posted December 29, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 29, 2019 Knees is one of the best songs on Expectations So Am I, no tears left to cry, Nightmare
witness1.3 Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 Spoiler This is actually like my least favorite single from Clarity, so for it to be one of the highest charting ones is weird. 1 Spoiler Like I said, I enjoyed OMG more than this song. However, I think it’s Fall/Winter release helped it a bit more, as it did not have as much competition. Don’t get me wrong, it is a nice track, and I really enjoy the post-chorus breakdown. Spoiler This is just one of those fun filler pop songs, and I remember bopping to this in my car on my drives back to school. Spoiler Ugh we stan a Grammy award-winning song! I really need to find someone who makes me feel like I have butterflies. This is Kacey’s first entry of 6. Spoiler This is an alright song from Zedd. Once again, it’s just one of those filler playlist songs. Not good enough to play on repeat, but not bad enough to want to press skip. I will say, there is a far superior Zedd song a lot further up on the chart. Spoiler Why is Jess Glynne so good at making generic pop music? This song was a nice addition to my summer playlist. Spoiler In retrospect, this song deserved WAY more. I think it’s easily one of my favorites from Miley. Her VMA performance was so chillingly good. Despite a #15 peak, its 13 weeks on the chart helped it land at #76. This is Miley’s first entry of 4. Spoiler This song was featured in some credit card commercial and honestly that’s all it was good for. Spoiler I was instantly obsessed with this song, enough so that I thought it was going to hit #1. However, it stalled at #4 and fell off only after 9 weeks. I think my constant repeat playing at the beginning is what turned me off from this song. 2 Spoiler This is my least favorite Dedicated single, however it is Carly and she truly can’t do no wrong. As I typed this, I remembered the song Feels Right exists. Spoiler After Icy, this is my second favorite Clarity single. But like all her other songs, they peak in the low Top 10 and fall off after 9ish weeks. Spoiler I have to admit, I lowkey jammed to this song. But not enough to warrant it being this high on the chart, or possibly be on the chart at all. 3 Spoiler I'm still debating whether I prefer this song or Look At Her Now. However, I will say I don’t like either as much as any of her droplet era songs, so hopefully there will be better material on the album. One thing that bothers me about this song is the very faint “yeahs” after every “to love.” One I noticed it, I cannot unhear it. This is Selena’s first entry of 2. Spoiler Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello terrorized us all summer with this song and trying to convince us that they are dating. Those facts aside, it was cute. Spoiler Her worst Track 5. Once she became aware of the Track 5 theory, they became worse (except miss Delicate). You can’t force Track 5’s sweetie!!

witness1.3 Posted December 31, 2019 Author Posted December 31, 2019 Spoiler The drop after the chorus is so addictive. Summer 2019 was such a good time for pop music and this is one of the reasons why. Spoiler SiGRITS!! Who else is drying their eyes because they don’t feel like crying? Unfortunately this is Sigrid’s only entry. Spoiler I feel like this could have been a Teenage Dream outtake. Katy could do Sweet Spot but Kim couldn’t do Teenage Dream. Spoiler Now I didn’t like this song until the Ariana remix was released, even though she contributes about nothing to the song. The solo track only peaked like #40 on my weekly charts, but the remix made me realize I had been missing out. This is Lizzo’s first entry of 4. Spoiler Halsey has been trying so hard to make this song happen with all the live performances and it’s just not happening. However those live performances enhanced the song for me and because of them, Graveyard has hovered around the lower half of my charts for 15 weeks. Spoiler Anything with Ellie’s name on it is gonna be on my year-end charts. It’s just how it is. 1 Spoiler I am like completely indifferent to this song. I do enjoy the verses and the choruses, but I feel like the vocal chops have too much weight. Spoiler Queen of Soundtracks. This was her best soundtrack song this year, despite the other one being higher on this list Spoiler This song really reminds me of The Sims: Vacation for some reason lol. The only thing wrong with this song is how short it is! It’s too good to only be 2ish minutes! 2 Spoiler Baby made an appearance on here thanks to Marina including it on Love + Fear. This song deserved to be a hit but everything with Marina’s name on it flops. I think she is chart poison. Spoiler The magic of music video releases making long charting album tracks eligible for my charts. This song is simply flawless. Spoiler Where is the album!? Zara was delivering in 2019 but nothing seems to stick! This song actually came on shuffle today when I was driving and its still very fresh! Spoiler I am so glad this remix was released because I so badly wanted to enjoy the original but I could not. Tommy’s verse was just eh. But Slayyyter did the damn thing. Also once I cut out the last 30 seconds of noise, this was a bop! Spoiler This song stole a VMA that should have belonged to 365. Spoiler I need to experience this album the way Kacey wrote it: on LSD. The harmonies in the bridge are so beautiful, and the lyrics are genius.
