jose168 Posted December 30, 2019 Author Posted December 30, 2019 (edited) Top 10 queens 10. Aute Cuture - Rosalía Aute Cuture is the tongue in cheek braggadocious ode to luxury that Donatella (gaga) thought it was. It manages to poke fun, name drop, and not take itself seriously while ya know.. Being a good song. 9. Rules - Doja Cat Doja wears influences of Kendrick Lamar and Nicki Minaj in this track, and proves again why she is one of the more exciting female emcees in the field right now. She is unafraid to put on multiple characters and flows, and the second verse? She snapped sis. 8. Not - Big Thief I was kind of shocked at this song, the vocal performance was very… loud for a Big Thief track. Adrianne's towering performance is one of the best she's done. 7. Sad Day - FKA Twigs This song is often compared to hyperballed (Björk) and for good reason. A dramatic song of heart break, twigs depicts the slow end to a relationship. It's beautiful, and relatable. 6. Norman F*cking Rockwell - Lana Del Rey Probably my favorite lyrics from Lana to date. No longer the damsel in distress, she affirms that the man(child) may be a good time, but he is toxic. She owns that. And the chorus is lucious. 5. Earfquake - Tyler, the Creator Tyler stated he wrote this song for Bieber.. and thank god he rejected it. The song is as palatable as Tyler has been to the masses, while at the same time keeping a stylistic edge that only he has. The collaborators on the track don't overstay their welcome, adding to it's chill yet dramatic environment. 4. Milionària - Rosalía Here Rosalia sings in Catalan for the first time (in a single) and its fantastic. Because of the language choice, the song sounds familiar and foreign at the same time (at least as a Spanish speaker). The song is also a return to form to the Flamenco influenced pop that shot her to international stardom with her awesome debut album. It cemented her for me as the artist to watch in 2020. 3. Bad Guy - Billie Eilish A funky upbeat number that has catapulter Billie into the mainstream. Bad Guy is excellent because it is quite out of character. An up until this point introverted music persona playing a vixen, a "bad guy", and pulls off the demeanor of this song in a way I don't think anyone else could (see Bieber try it...). It commands your attention immediately, yet doesn't take itself that seriously. She walks this line well. 2. Cellophane - FKA Twigs Absolutely stunning vocal performance. Her best to date I would say. The production here, a quiet piano with some sparse whispers and synths in the distant background. While twigs is no stranger to using sonic space as an instrument, this track hit's different. Here her voice is center stage, vulnerable cracks, soaring belts, and high heights. The performance brings the lyrics to a haunting light. 1. Next Level Charli - Charli XCX This song is a fantastic intro to "Charli". It's bright, it's futuristic, it's tron in music. Here Charli hits the sweet spot of PC music and radio ready pop music. I truly believe she is writing music that is radio ready in the year 2099. Charli is a pop music original and no one does it quite like she does. Edited December 30, 2019 by jose168
