Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 BEST SONGS OF 2019: #20 - #11 20) EVERYTHING I WANTED – BILLIE EILISH (Released: November 13, 2019) Quote The song has an ability to convey strong and contrasting emotions in such a simplistic and soothing atmosphere, especially with Billie's delivery in this song. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 19) OLD TOWN ROAD (REMIX) [FEAT. BILLY RAE CYRUS] – LIL NAS X (Released: April 5, 2019) Quote This song is catchy as f*ck and i feel like this song is literally uniting people. I love to see it. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 18) UNBEARABLY WHITE – VAMPIRE WEEKEND (Released: April 4, 2019) Quote 'Unbearably White' is the very definition of a grower. Everytime i listen to this song, my mood suddenly changes into better mood. Just wow. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 17) THIS LIFE – VAMPIRE WEEKEND (Released: April 4, 2019) Quote They literally released this song to remind everybody that they are not going anywhere. It makes me love the even more. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 16) NORMAN ****ING ROCKWELL – LANA DEL REY (Released: November 1, 2019) Quote This is such a strong opening track for an album. I can't believe this song exist. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 15) FANCY – TWICE (Released: April 22, 2019) Quote Compared to their previous title tracks, 'Fancy' definitely their step up to more grown up image from them. For the song itself, this is one of their best Korean title tracks and it obviously gets better with each listen. For anyone who doesn't like k-pop and just want to hear a full blown pop song. This song is clearly for you to enjoy. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 14) SAD DAY – FKA TWIGS (Released: November 4, 2019) Quote I absolutely adore the sound of this song. Definitely one of the best tracks from the album. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 13) NO HALO – BROCKHAMPTON (Released: August 21, 2019) Quote Awesome song. Everyone kills their part and everything flows together extremely well. the female vocals on the chorus is actually the highlight of the song imo. The song is just sooo good. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 12) BORDERLINE – TAME IMPALA (Released: April 12, 2019) Quote Continuing their evolution toward a more pop-oriented sound, I can't stop playing this song. Their new album is going to the best pop record of 2020. Just watch. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 11) VIOLENCE – GRIMES & I_O (Released: September 5, 2019) Quote Not gonna lie, I like 'Pop' Grimes and this song proves that she can make 'Synthpop' her bitch. We love to see it. Spotify Youtube Apple Music
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 BEST ALBUMS OF 2019: #20 - #11 20) LOVER – TAYLOR SWIFT (Released: August 23, 2019) Quote I always thought that after 'Reputation', she would release another country album. But after this released, I was kinda disappointed that Lover is not Taylor Swift's return to country music (A song featuring Dixie Chicks is the only country influence song on this album) but Taylor still continues to be such a captivating presence, both as a songwriter and as a performer. Even though the lead single of this album didn't do its job to make people more interest on her new album, but 'Lover' still emotionally honest collection of pure pop that truly comes into its own when the voice and sentiments heard throughout are from Taylor herself. My Recommendations: Lover, Paper Rings & Cruel Summer Spotify Apple Music 19) KEEPSAKE – HATCHIE (Released: June 21, 2019) Quote 'Keepsake' is a bittersweet piece of dream pop that keeps me engaged and sing along when I'm not in a good mood. The distorted guitars, ethereal synths, and washed-out backing vocals contribute to a very dreamy ambiance and also she used Dream Pop influences as a tool to shape this album's sound, which is very nice. My Recommendations: Without a Blush, When I Get Out & Stay with Me Spotify Apple Music 18) I AM EASY TO FIND – THE NATIONAL (Released: May 17, 2019) Quote Compared to their two previous albums, they switches thing up with multiple guest vocalists in this album. The female vocals in this album can be irritating at first listen but the overall low tempo might make it more satisfying. I'm not their biggest fan, but this is easily one of my favorite albums from them and marks a definitive high point from me. My Recommendations: Light Years, Her Father in the Pool & Rylan Spotify Apple Music 17) PANG – CAROLINE POLACHEK (Released: October 18, 2019) Quote At this point, I feel like I will call Caroline Polachek a witch because she can captivate me with her vocals, the production and her songwriting. Literally everything from this album is so ethereal, layered, and multi-dimensional. There are no more words to describe how intimate and emotionally resonating this album to me. 'Pang' is a masterpiece. My Recommendations: So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings, Door & Hit Me Where It Hurts Spotify Apple Music 16) ARIZONA BABY – KEVIN ABSTRACT (Released: April 25, 2019) Quote Before I discovered Brockhampton music, I knew about Kevin Abstract when he released his album 'American Boyfriend', which I love. In this follow-up album, this album still very enjoyable to listen to. While it’s no 'American Boyfriend', but this is still the 2nd best release in Kevin’s solo discography. He continues to show how diverse of an artist he is & the production is detailed and i'm excited for upcoming solo albums My Recommendations: Peach, Baby Boy & Georgia Spotify Apple Music 15) HERE COMES THE COWBOY – MAC DEMARCO (Released: May 10, 2019) Quote This album is an ultra minimalist, and sometimes frustratingly repetitive, but Mac’s songwriting retains this unique charm that somehow makes up for these faults. This album also has his best percussion to date simply because of the variety. You’re probably not going to like this album, but if you lower your expectation you will absolutely love this album. My Recommendations: Nobody, All of Our Yesterdays & Preoccupied Spotify Apple Music 14) CUZ I LOVE YOU – LIZZO (Released: April 19, 2019) Quote I literally can't get enough of this album. Pop music has always had the potential to be this fun, colorful and vibrant energy that radiates from a sound that is guaranteed to appeal to an incredibly wide audience, while resisting any attempts at dumbing down the production, performance and lyrics. This album proves why Lizzo is such a joy to listen to, as she exerts so much confidence and charisma across each and every song on the album which makes it a clear winner. My Recommendations: Juice, Exactly How I Feel & Better in Color Spotify Apple Music 13) VENTURA – ANDERSON .PAAK (Released: April 12, 2019) Quote This album is f*cking amazing. Never would I of thought going into this that this would be this great. This album is just so fun and groovy, and comes with amazing hooks and bars. The features are perfect in every single way. The messages that this project gives off are so good as well. In every single way, this project is just perfect. My Recommendations: Jet Black, Chosen One & Come Home Spotify Apple Music 12) FATHER OF THE BRIDE – VAMPIRE WEEKEND (Released: May 3, 2019) Quote This album was certainly worth the wait. As their casual fan, I really enjoy this album so much. 'Father of the Bride' is one of the most beautiful albums i've heard in 2019. The vocals are just amazing, and all of the instrumentals sound fantastic. I recommend you listen to this with headphones. My Recommendations: This Life, Sympathy & Big Blue Spotify Apple Music 11) THANK U, NEXT – ARIANA GRANDE (Released: February 8, 2019) Quote This is a great pop album. One of her best records to date. The production is on point, the songs are very catchy and it's by far more coherent and consistent than all of her past works. the singles sound significantly better in the context of the album, to the point where I don't even skip them anymore (Yeah, i finally love '7 Rings'). And what's more impressive to me is how Ariana herself is improving the standard for mainstream Pop just by herself. My Recommendations: Ghostin, Needy & Bloodline Spotify Apple Music
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 1, 2020 Author Posted January 1, 2020 BEST FILMS OF 2019: #20 - #11 20) FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW (Released: August 2, 2019) Quote Director: David Leitch Writers: Chris Morgan & Drew Pearce Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham & Idris Elba This is an enjoyable film that has almost nothing to do with Fast & Furious imo. What I enjoyed about the film the most were how great the fight choreography seamlessly worked in comedy rather than serve as a break from comedy. I still enjoyed it more than the last Fast & Furious and wouldn't mind another with Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnson tbh 19) DOWNTON ABBEY (Released: September 20, 2019) Quote Director: Michael Engler Writer: Julian Fellowes Starring: Michelle Dockery, Maggie Smith & Matthew Goode This film is sweet, sweet closure to the series. To me the film didn’t really add anything to the series it was spawned from, but the little extra from a series that already has closure was still nice. 18) PADDLETON (Released: February 22, 2019) Quote Director: Alex Lehmann Writers: Alex Lehmann & Mark Duplass Starring: Mark Duplass & Ray Romano This movie is very sad. The acting is fantastic. Its fun at times and end in a heartbreaking way that really got me. 'Paddleton' manage to be a really good movie that almost reach a higher level. 17) ALADDIN (2019) (Released: May 24, 2019) Quote Director: Guy Ritchie Writers: John August & Guy Ritchie Starring: Will Smith, Mena Massoud & Naomi Scott Glad to say I was pleasantly surprised by this. I was a huge fan of the original Aladdin but after watching this film twice with my friends, I had a lot o fun. Mena Massoud makes a really great Aladdin and Naomi Scott is stunning as Jasmine. 16) HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD (Released: February 22, 2019) Quote Director: Dean DeBlois Writer: Dean DeBlois Starring: Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera & Cate Blanchett While it is the weakest of the franchise plot wise, The Hidden World makes up for this shortcoming with beautiful visuals and an emotionally satisfying conclusion that does not need another chapter. The How to Train Your Dragon series has come to a sweet, heartbreaking, beautiful end. If you haven’t seen the second one, I’d highly recommend seeing that first, or you may not understand how or why the characters are where they are. 15) MARRIAGE STORY (Released: December 6, 2019) Quote Director: Noah Baumbach Writer: Noah Baumbach Starring: Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson & Laura Dern This is a movie lifted by its performances above all else. Adam Driver and Scarlet Johansson are the highlights of the movie, and they bring so much complexity and more relatable to these already three-dimensional characters. 14) POKÉMON: DETECTIVE PIKACHU (Released: May 10, 2019) Quote Director: Rob Letterman Writers: Dan Hernandez, Benji Samit & Rob Letterman Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith & Kathryn Newton Well, its definitely a video game movie but i think its totally the best video game movie of all time. The CG is incredibly impressive and half the time i saw myself getting distracted by the Pokemon coming to life in front of me. I didn't go into the theater with high hopes but i came out impressed and satisfied. 13) IT CHAPTER TWO (Released: September 6, 2019) Quote Director: Andy Muschietti Writer: Gary Dauberman Starring: Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy & Bill Hader This is a great movie. It's a fun, creative, big budget Hollywood horror that relies more on visual design and atmosphere than jump scares. Here's to hoping the producers release a director's cut with either some additional scenes to tie in more smoothly or that expands on some neglected aspects of the story line that may have been whittled down to fit into an allotted running time. 12) GLASS (Released: January 18, 2019) Quote Director: M. Night Shyamalan Writer: M. Night Shyamalan Starring: James McAvoy, Bruce Willis & Samuel L. Jackson 'Glass' is a surprising, but also coherent and intelligent conclusion of the story that began in 2000 with 'Unbreakable'. But if you don't like that movie, I don't think you'll find much here. 11) SHAZAM! (Released: April 5, 2019) Quote Director: David F. Sandberg Writer: Henry Gayden Starring: Zachary Levi, Mark Strong & Jack Dylan Grazer Despite some flaws and being just a tad longer than needed, 'Shazam!' is almost guaranteed to be a total blast from beginning to end, and one of the funniest Superhero movies I've seen with, for the most part, a pretty solid cast and characters, especially the protagonist duo that make this just a hilarious trip and a joy to watch.

Bubble Tea Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Lover is definitely a cute album - a weak effort though by Taylor's standards. Title track is crystal tier. I loved Aladdin - I thought it was a lot of fun and the lead actor is SO HOT. Still fuming about the lack of visible abs.

Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 BEST SONGS OF 2019: #10 - #04 10) DOIN' TIME – LANA DEL REY (Released: May 17, 2019) Quote This cover is timeless. Sublime made this song a classic on their own but also Lana covered this song just her own self-written song. It's a double win for them. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 09) NOW I'M IN IT – HAIM (Released: October 30, 2019) Quote As someone whose rarely listen to HAIM, This is an amazing song. I can see Alanis Morrisette would sing this in her peak. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 08) JULIEN – CARLY RAE JEPSEN (Released: April 19, 2019) Quote This track doesn't deserves just to be a promo single. They should've have push this song to be a single with MV and streaming & radio payola. People need to hear this masterpiece. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 07) 2021 – VAMPIRE WEEKEND (Released: January 24, 2019) Quote What can I say? Ezra Koenig really is THAT bitch for making this song possible. I hate ha but also love ha. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 06) HOPE IS A DANGEROUS THING FOR A WOMAN LIKE ME TO HAVE - BUT I HAVE IT – LANA DEL REY (Released: January 9, 2019) Quote What a beautiful moody song this is. A very simple arrangement. Just piano and vocals, but the emotion totally comes through from her vocals. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 05) GONE – CHARLI XCX & CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS (Released: July 17, 2019) Quote This is one of greatest pop song this year (or maybe of all time). If Charli can top this in her future release then I will crowned the best artist in this milennium. Spotify Youtube Apple Music 04) JUICE – LIZZO (Released: January 4, 2019) Quote Everything about this song is fantastic. This song is going to be a classic 2010s songs in the future. Spotify Youtube Apple Music
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 BEST ALBUMS OF 2019: #10 - #04 10) CHARLI – CHARLI XCX (Released: September 13, 2019) Quote This album is an absolute BANGERS. The production on this album is KILLER and and you can really hear Charli having a ton of fun in the booth with AG Cook. And I'd say almost all of it works. The singles still smack too and they work well in the context of the album. My Recommedations: Gone, Next Level Charli & White Mercedes. Spotify Apple Music 09) FEAR INOCULUM – TOOL (Released: August 30, 2019) Quote While I was never a fan of them and listening to their music until 4 years ago, but all I can say is that this album It's very good. It's on par with '10,000 Days' and better than 'Undertow', but not as good as 'Aenima' or 'Lateralus' (which I certainly didn't expect). The band sounds as tight and polished as ever. The signature Tool sound is here on every song and there's some truly wonderful moments. The thing that holds it back from being a masterpiece though is the fact that it's too long. but In the end, I'm happy this exists and I'll listen to it several times in the coming weeks. My Recommedations: 7empest, Fear Inoculum & Pneuma. Spotify Apple Music 08) ASSUME FORM – JAMES BLAKE (Released: January 18, 2019) Quote I'm glad to see James Blake finally happy. Every other track on this album, which I would categorize as electronic chamber pop, and sometimes brilliant in their own ways. The features are all stellar & Blake's vocal performances throughout this album often becomes nasally, almost weak at points. But paired with these hopeful, and gorgeous instrumentals make it more torelable My Recommedations: Where's the Catch?, Can't Believe the Way We Flow & Barefoot in the Park. Spotify Apple Music 07) GINGER – BROCKHAMPTON (Released: August 23, 2019) Quote This album has got it. It's got emotion but also has the bangers & bops. It's very well layered in that sense, and the excellent album paired with many vocal harmonies/contributions makes for an experience all its own. Compared to their previous albums, This is their weakest album so far, but it's still solid. Of course each song stands out in it’s own way. My Recommedations: Dearly Departed, No Halo & Ginger. Spotify Apple Music 06) DEDICATED – CARLY RAE JEPSEN (Released: May 17, 2019) Quote There's not a single bad song on this album. some songs aren't as overwhelming as the others but i wouldn't call them underwhelming either. she knows how to blend artistry with pop music and it gives birth to an album that is easy to listen to, to enjoy and to appreciate. My Recommedations: Happy Not Knowing, Now That I Found You & Julien. Spotify Apple Music 05) ALL MY HEROES ARE CORNBALLS – JPEGMAFIA (Released: September 13, 2019) Quote This album is a phenomenal. There is not a moment that doesn't feel inspired or any one element that doesn't add to the experience. Every line, every sound, every sample, every joke. This is what solidifies JPEGMAFIA's as an artistic visionary. This album is like nothing you've ever heard before, blending a range of genre influences such as cloud rap, R&B, boom-bap, glitch-hop, industrial. My Recommedations: Free the Frail, Jesus Forgive Me, I Am a Thot & All My Heroes Are Cornballs. Spotify Apple Music 04) WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? – BILLIE EILISH (Released: March 29, 2019) Quote This is a solid debut album. This is pretty much everything i ask for in an alt R&B record. The dark atmosphere and the neat bass are the type of stuff i just eat up. A couple tracks fall a little flat but otherwise when this album works it works really well and Billie's voice is quite pretty and the production is pretty fitting for what she's going for. Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 BEST FILMS OF 2019: #10 - #04 10) KNIVES OUT (Released: November 27, 2019) Quote Director: Rian Johnson Writer: Rian Johnson Starring: Daniel Craig, Chris Evans & Jamie Lee Curtis A solid and very enjoyable film. There's really not much to say besides the title. It wasn't even really about the mystery, although I did fail to see the twist despite figuring out the smaller turns of the story, but more about watching the characters. The rest of the cast does well with their exaggerated acts. The pacing is tight and keeps the story flowing all the way. Great relaxing movie to watch with friends. 09) JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 - PARABELLUM (Released: May 17, 2019) Quote Director: Chad Stahelski Writers: Derek Kolstad, Shay Hatten, Chris Collins & Marc Abrams Starring: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry & Laurence Fishburne This trilogy is better with each every films. t’s amazing how the action still feels fresh each time, gets more fun and honestly I’d say this is the best looking one too. 08) TOY STORY 4 (Released: June 21, 2019) Quote Director: Josh Cooley Writers: Andrew Stanton & Stephany Folsom Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen & Annie Potts Toy Story 4 extends the themes of the previous movies without adding much, but still manages to be a solid and fresh movie. As always technically amazing, well written and perfectly balanced. It's bittersweet tone mostly appeals to all of us who grew up with the franchise, and that most probably felt as inadequate and left behind in an ever-changing world as these characters. It still manages to be much fun for both kids and grown-ups, without excessively leaning to either side. It's great to see that despite other franchises ended up losing their soul through their forced sequels, Toy Story still manages to keep its warmth every time. 07) THE IRISHMAN (Released: November 1, 2019) Quote Director: Martin Scorsese Writer: Steven Zaillian Starring: Robert De Niro, Al Pacino & Joe Pesci I could ramble on about what makes this a classic for the ages, but numerous others have outlined those details quite thoroughly. This film deserves everry oscar nomination tbh. 06) US (Released: March 22, 2019) Quote Director: Jordan Peele Writer: Jordan Peele Starring: Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke & Elisabeth Moss Apparently a lot of people seem to think Us isn't scary. But i don't think this is the case though. The first half of the movie is a pretty typical home invasion/slasher movie with an interesting twist. There's humor but it's never really overpowering and certainly isn't the focus. Eventually as the plot of the movie progresses and we get more and more setup and reach the initial climax we start to notice what has been in front of us the whole time. Also the dialogue and visuals are great. It's films like this that give me hope for modern horror. Lupita deserves her second oscar for this role. 05) MIDSOMMAR (Released: July 3, 2019) Quote Director: Ari Aster Writer: Ari Aster Starring: Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor & William Jackson Harper Though this movie's length may be a deterrence for some, I feel every moment was necessary for the final catharsis. The film obviously shines most in the cinematography: the colour palette, environment, and score masterfully complement one another. Everything in this movie is placed with great intention, every performance was convincing and said more about the character's personality than the writing needed to, but the writing left plenty of internal hints about what was to come throughout the story. I hope modern horror continues to push the boundaries and this film is certainly a perfect mission statement on its possibilities. 04) JOKER (Released: October 4, 2019) Quote Director: Todd Phillips Writers: Todd Phillips & Scott Silver Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro & Frances Conroy Joaquin Phoenix plays the role of the "Joker" really excellent. He visualizes the pain of the character even physically. On the other side this movie was one of the most depressive ones I ever watched, and it was not a real pleasure, even though the main actor was brillant.
witness1.3 Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Norman Rockwell (song) is amazing, I love the piano in it I don’t want to see Taylor return to country any time soon! We all agree ME! Sucks tho haha. Cruel Summer is one of her best pop songs. I checked out Pang the other day and I just don’t think its my taste of music. However, I did really like the 3 songs you recommended. Bloodline deserved to be a single!!! Something about Doin’ Time is just so……. Good. I’m embarrassed that its my most played song by her but I think its amazing. Julien was done DIRTY I did not like Hope when it came out but it’s definitely a great closing track. Gone grew on me immensely. Juice really deserved to blow up after Truth Hurts and not Good As Hell. I feel like Charli was a step down from her previous work. There is one bad song on Dedicated – Feels Right. Also please check out my updates!!
