#30 BANKS - III

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor banks III

Alternative R&B

When this first came out, I called it her best album too date, which may have been an overstatement, though it's certainly not that bad either. My big problem with The Altar was that it was so boring and faceless in places, besides the obvious standout tracks. This album on the other hand might not have a Gemini Feed, but it is a lot more consistent. Also think her vocals aren't amazing on every track here (but sometimes it works, like on Look What You're Doing To Me). All in all a nice album with some confident tracks and some more emotional tracks, though it's clear that she has yet to reach her peak creatively

#29 LÉON - LÉON

Léon - Léon

Pop

Idk where Sweden gets all these pop girls from, but I'm satisfied tbh! This is a really fun pop album, from LÉON who has a really lovely unique deep voice. This is a really consistent and fun pop album. It's not the best album you'll hear this year, nor does it push any boundaries in the process or show great craftmanship, but it's just really enjoyable. An enjoyable pop album from start to finish.

#28 Maggie Rogers - Heard It In A Past Life

HIIAPL Maggie Rogers.jpg

Art Pop

This is a really beautiful and solid debut album with a lot of fun moments here and there. My biggest issue is that this also occasionally serves your standard indie sleepy girl, which isn't terrible but it won't get her far. Still good debut album xo

#27 Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow

A photograph of two children in a room. On the left, a child in a tiara sits inside a clear plastic box; on the right, a child sits and plays in front of a wooden crib. The room is filled with various other children's items.

Indie Pop

Very atmospheric and moody at points, which sometimes really works in the album's favor (like on Jupiter 4), but I can't lie in saying that this didn't click instantly and doesn't click with each listen either. There is a really great album here, but it's hard to always connect to it

#26 Rex Orange County - Pony

Rex Orange County - Pony.png

Indie Pop

Feel like I'm the only one who liked it :rip: This is just another nice collection of tracks of ROC, will say that the vocals are a lil more rough than his previous record, but other than that an enjoyable album and an album you kinda expect from him. Unlike many other artists, he clearly has reached its peak potential, which is okay but eaux well

#25 Nilüfer Yanya - Miss Universe

Nilufer-yanya-miss-universe-album.jpeg

Indie Pop

Really fun and diverse debut album from Yanya, who also has a lovely voice. The album as a whole is somewhat tainted by a concept that is a bit lost on me, especially on the interludes which are somewhat fun to have incorporated but I'm lost on their purpose here. Still, really a fun album.

#24 Tinashe - Songs For You

Songsforyoutinashe.png

Alternative R&B

I wasn't even sure if I should check this out in the first place, considering Joyride was pretty much unlistenable (sue me), but this is actually really nice. There are some 'aquarius' vibes on here with standouts like Stormy Weather, but there's also a lot of contemporary R&B. That occasionally gives Tinashe shining moments, and in other songs it's just another cont. R&B song. Which is not bad, but not necessary.

#23 Hatchie - Keepsake

Keepsake Hatchie.jpg

Dream Pop

Obsessed is honestly that song huh. Great debut album, though it wasn't as memorable as I'd want it to be.

#22 King Princess - Cheap Queen

King Princess - Cheap Queen.png

Pop

Really great debut album [100000]. And now we're on it, the title track is trash  sue me

#21 Vampire Weekend -  Father of The Bride

A hand-drawn globe against a white background, with an orange border on the left-hand side. The words "FATHER+OF+THE+BRIDE" encircle the globe, with "Vampire Weekend" and "Sony Music" printed above and below the globe respectively.

Indie Pop

There are some really fun and well-crafted tracks on here, with considerable help from Steve Lacy and Danielle Haim who both give this album the most standout tracks. The biggest problem here is that it's so overly long (18 tracks), and clearly not all are needed here, as some are more generic/less inspiring than others. There's a great 12-track album in here, now it's an 18 track album with not necessarily any bad songs, but many songs that aren't necessarily the best you'll ever hear

I haven't heard any of these, but I'm kind of interested in Alice's since I liked No Roots, I don't really know anything else from her though.

Wallows also seems interesting from what you wrote, I know it's Dylan's band but I think I've only heard a song or two here and there.

I think you'll like those two, don't expect too much, but both are still enjoyable albums

Okay you won before, lost last time and now you've won AGAIN :clap3: We love a flip flop, speaking of which that's what nearly everything in this set is

Songs for You is nice, I'm happy that Tinashe is back to serving quality. Heard It In a Past Life, Keepsake & Cheap Queen oh yeah we love that trio for sure :clap3::clap3::clap3: Not liking CQ (song), hmm :thing: Wow another person not giving Maggie the complete respect she deserves - how unfortunate!

#20 Harry Styles - Fine Line

220px-Harry_Styles_-_Fine_Line.png

Pop Rock

Solid follow up to his debut record. Fine Line is a lot more colorful, diverse and fun, compared to its predecessor. I will say that there are a few duds here and there, that shows me that Harry isn´t quite there yet for his full potential.

#19 Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?

When_We_All_Fall_Asleep,_Where_Do_We_Go%3F.png

Electropop

Well this for sure is.. interesting  Think Billie delivered quite a solid debut album and actually managed to differentiate herself a bit more. Her early work was good too, but she was just one of the indie girls, strongly living up to the Lorde and Lana print. With the album, this gets mixed with poppy 'yeezus' sounds, and the result is surprising.  There are plenty of great tracks here, though not all tracks grab my attention as much and over time I haven't returned to it as often. It'll be interesting to see where she'll go from here

#18 Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next

Thank_U,_Next_album_cover.png

Pop

Some.. interesting things going on in here  The lead of this has such a great concept, and in my opinion, it was Ariana's first true MPG moment. The album itself is probably the most consistent and cohesive Ariana record to date, though it lacks the highs or the replay value that other albums have. Some songs sound either dated, or are just not that worthy of replaying, so I don't know if time was really nice to this album. Some songs have aged well though, but other than that, she can still do better

#17 SASAMI - SASAMI

Sasami_self_titled.jpg

Indie Rock

She wants what Mitski has. Jealousy is a serve though, and the album as a whole is very neat and clean, and lovely to just drift away in your thoughts with this album on. Though, from my top 20 albums, this is probably the least memorable one. Some parts border on dull at times. Nothing here is bad, but it surely can be more exciting at parts.

#16 Sigrid - Sucker Punch

220px-Sigrid-SuckerPunch.jpg

Pop

Such a fun debut album, with plenty of bangers from Sigrid. The singles on here are easily some of the best pop songs of recent times. Not a fan of every single song here, the obvious album tracks are not on the level of some of the other songs on here. Other than that I really enjoyed this, and some of these songs have been aging really nicely (considering some are from 2017 already lol)

#15 Yuna - Rouge

Yuna_-_Rouge.png

R&B

Such a smooth and fun R&B album, plenty of great tracks and really catchy too. Not much to say about this but I liked it and it's worth a listen x

#14 Lizzo - Cuz I Love You

Lizzo_-_Cuz_I_Love_You.png

R&B

real talk, this is an album filled with bangers, and Lizzo is fully engaged. I know people have started turning on her already :thing: and she might be annoying, but this album has too many bops to just ignore like this. Lizzo sounds great in every track, and really nicely melts pop, soul, r&b and hip hop sounds together. This in a way is also an album that is filled with hits, and it'll be interesting to see if future albums could be more an album, as opposed to a collection of songs, great songs, but still

#13 Kelsey Lu - Blood

KelseyLu_Blood.jpg

Art Pop

Such a beautiful and unpredictable record. Kelsey sounds amazing, and the tracks feature great instrumentals. The cello on songs like Atlantic (or at least I assume it to be a cello) is beautiful. Her cover of I'm Not In Love is incredible, Atlantic is incredibly enchanting, Poor Fake is unpredictable and fun and the album features way more incredible moments. For some reason, I haven't returned to this as often as my top 12, but I feel like this one will hold up well over the years

#12 Jenny Lewis - On The Line

JennyLewis_OnTheLine.jpg

Pop Rock

Really fun record. The lyrics are really fun, and the melodies in here are great too. This album is filled with stories, that are beautifully sung by Jenny, and it's such a solid record from start to finish, that thus far has aged really well.

#11 Tyler, The Creator - IGOR

60712a7b6cbcc792502d877fb9a170c5.1000x1000x1.jpg

Experimental Hip-Hop

Such a great follow up from Flower Boy. I think it was hard to follow up FB, which through time has kind of become a (cult) classic, it's such a stunning album. I was looking forward to IGOR, and whilst I still prefer FB, I'm happy that this isn't just a rehash of FB. The maturing that happened on FB is still here, but this is a whole other album. Def more out there, with plenty of usage of samples and unique (or weird lol) vocal delivery. But it's a touching album that has some incredible moments, with a solid concept. He did not disappoint

I think that the Drake collab is a good representation of the album. The other songs are a bit more experimental (not that I would label them experimental as a whole, just more experimental). It's a pretty fun album filled with bangers
