Ash12345 Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 Methodology Add up the points for each week each song charted, and divide the songs points equally among all the songwriters, ie the fewer co-writers a songwriter has on one of their hits, the higher the % of points they get for that song. Weekly Hot 100 points are based on the following formula. #1 - 250 points #2 - 180 points #3 - 170 points #4 - 160 points #5 - 150 points #6 - 140 points #7 - 130 points #8 - 120 points #9 - 110 points #10 - 100 points #11 - 90 points ... (at this point points decrease by one with every position) ... #100 - 1 point Songwriter credits are taken from the BMI and ASCAP websites. In rare cases when the songs are not in either of those databases, I use the credits from discogs.com, 45cat.com and Spotify, cross-checking the three sources.
Ash12345 Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 (edited) Before I start reveals, I'm going to give people a chance to post any songwriters they think can make it into the top 100 of all time, just in case I forgot to check some. I've checked the stats of every songwriter in the Songwriter Hall of Fame that was relevant post Hot 100 (the Hall of Fame also have songwriters from the early 1900s to 50s that weren't that relevant in the Hot 100 charts). I also checked several "greatest of all time" songwriters lists, and the main songwriters behind the most successful artists on the all time Hot 100 Artists chart and top selling artists of all time. Ash12345 Posted December 9, 2019 Author Posted December 9, 2019 Here's the list of all the songwriters whose points I've checked. So yeah, if there's anyone else you think I should check let me know. I also checked some artists that never had a chance at making the all-time top 100 just to see what their points are. I can post their points too if anyone's interested, like I did most of the pop girls. BTW if you've already seen the (incomplete) results, don't share the results here to avoid spoiling the reveals for others.

Lets just say I wouldn't have had the motivation to finish it if I didn't think my fave was going to do well. But it was also a fun way to discover all kind of great songwriters that have shaped the history of music throughout the decades.
