First off, I wanna start with 10 albums that deserve an honorable mention, they didn’t make the final Top 20 but I enjoyed them a lot

Number 10:

Spoiler

Don’t Feed the Pop Monster by Broods

I’m a really big fan of Broods and their third album did not disappoint, it has its very high highs but also it has very low lows, nonetheless I really enjoyed it when it came out and a few songs stuck to me for more than half of the year

HIGHLIGHTS: “Everytime You Go”, “Hospitalized” & “Everything Goes (Wow)”

new skin by VÉRITÉ

So this was released not too long ago but I think it’s a very solid body of work, although I prefer her debut album by a landslide. This can feel a bit flat at times, but it has a few gems that made it enjoyable this last quarter of the year

HIGHLIGHTS: “think of me”, “gone” & “body in my bed”

Cheap Queen by King Princess

Same as new skin, this album came out in the last quarter of the year, and I was dumb and didn’t listen to it until a few weeks after it came out which I regret cause maybe if I had listened to it earlier it would’ve been able to crack the final top 20. Even though I haven’t had enough time to digest some songs, some other songs instantly stuck with me which made it enter this list instantly

HIGHLIGHTS: “Hit the Back”, “Ain’t Together” & “Prophet”

LOVE + FEAR by MARINA

Well this album was controversial wasn’t it? :-* I was kind of disappointed after listening to it because I knew she could do better, some songs feel very similar and flat but the more I listened to it, the more some of them grew on me. The rest didn’t age that well, but the ones that aged well have been very enjoyable

HIGHLIGHTS: “Karma”, “Enjoy Your Life” & “End of the Earth”

Number 6:

Spoiler

mabel-high-expectations.jpg

High Expectations by Mabel

Another pop girlie who finally made her debut, I was never a big fan of her pre-album singles that became small hits in Europe but after giving this a listen they grew on me and this album sure has a lot of great pop songs, although it also has some forgettable ones

HIGHLIGHTS: “We Don’t Say...”, “Trouble” & “Put Your Name On It”

Number 5:

III by Banks

Well this was definitely unexpected since I really wanted this to be in the final Top 20 but compared to some of this year’s releases, it wasn’t enough for me. I enjoyed this album a lot, but The Altar has better highs in my opinion. It’s still an amazing album

HIGHLIGHTS: “The Fall”, “Contaminated” & “Godless”

Number 4:

In My Defense by Iggy Azalea

When this album first came out I absolutely hated it, but on my second listen more than half of the songs grew on me, and after a few listens I found myself twerking to half of the album, so this was definitely a big grower. Although some songs never grew on me, a good amount did which made it place at #4 on this list

HIGHLIGHTS: “Thanks I Get”, “Started” & “Just Wanna”

Can't complain about VERITE & Iggy not making the main list, both of those projects were pretty weak - which sucks because they've given us great material before. King Princess definitely came thru with Cheap Queen :clap3: Her EP is very well done on top of that. Don't Feed the Pop Monster is way too low even on this HMs list :jonny2: At least your trinity is very strong. "it has very low lows" absolutely NOT!

Sanctuary-cover.jpg

Sanctuary - EP by Aly & AJ

The only reason it didn’t make the final Top 20 is because it’s an EP, if this was a full length it would’ve most likely made the final top 10, this EP is perfect pop and I enjoyed it so much, it has some of my most played tracks of the year

HIGHLIGHTS: “Star Maps”, “Don’t Go Changing” & “Church”

Number 2: :2ndplace:

Was It Even Real? by Olivia O’Brien

I wasn't familiar with Olivia before listening to this, and actually the only reason I listened to this was because I saw the album cover and I was immediately grabbed by it, it’s one of my favorite covers of the year, and I definitely do not regret listening to it. It’s a very consistent album which gave me one of the most important songs of the year to me (the mental breakdowns I had to “We Lied to Each Other :emofish:)

HIGHLIGHTS: “We Lied to Each Other”, “purpleworld” & “Call Me!!!”

Head Above Water by Avril Lavigne

I have been a huge Avril fan since I can remember, and this album was a very cute comeback that I enjoyed. Maybe it didn’t age as I would’ve liked it to, but I enjoyed it for a while and it just missed the Top 20 mark by a bit, that is why ive decided it is the Top Honorable Mention

HIGHLIGHTS: “It Was In Me”, “Tell Me It’s Over” & “Head Above Water”

SHE IS COMING by Miley Cyrus

So rounding out the Top 20 we have Miley’s comeback EP. Although I wish this would’ve been a full length album, it surely did not disappoint. I didn’t like Younger Now at all so I was very happy to se Miley change things up with this. The whole visuals of this were very pretty,  and I’m perched to see what she does next.

HIGHLIGHTS: “D.R.E.A.M.”, “The Most” & “Mother’s Daughter”

there were just some songs on DFTPM that kind of ruin the mood of the album for me, for example, I really don’t use “Old Dog” and “Too Proud”, I just never liked them at all, and some others like “To Belong” and “Life After” which aren’t as bad but still skipped them most of the time :emofish:

K-12 by Melanie Martinez

This was one of my most anticipated releases of the year, since Cry Baby is probably one of my favorite albums of the decade. K-12 surely did not disappoint, the movie was amazing and the album visuals were stunning, but it didn’t top Cry Baby musically for me. It only had a few misses but overall it is a very solid pop album, it sounds evolved but still very Melanie.

HIGHLIGHTS: “Teacher’s Pet”, “Highschool Sweethearts” & “Lunchbox Friends”

PANG by Caroline Polachek

I wasn’t familiar with Caroline before listening to this but after I saw the album cover and many people on twitter talking about this I gave it a listened and did not regret it. I feel like her sound is very new and fresh and something we hadn’t seen before and I really like that. Even though it has some songs that I didn’t quite click with, which is why it is placed this low, it still an amazing record

LÉON by LÉON

Definitely very underrated, you should check her out if you haven’t. Her debut album was very good and solid, I really enjoy her songwriting but I feel like she could’ve added a bit more songs, you don’t make a 10 track album if every song isn’t perfect and while they’re mostly very good, a few of them can be forgettable, that’s why I was left wanting more

HIGHLIGHTS: “Falling”, “Pink” & “You and I”

Sucker Punch by Sigrid

I was very scared about this album because I wasn’t a big fan of the promo singles at first (“Don’t Feel Like Crying”, “Sight Of You”) but I trusted her ability to make pop bangers and she came through. This album has some excellent pop songs and her lyrics and her voice make them better, although it also has a few misses, it’s a very solid debut and I love going back to this album every now and then

HIGHLIGHTS: “Never Mine”, “Basic” & “Mine Right Now”

Songs For You by Tinashe

Yes, this came out only a few weeks ago but Tinashe massively stepped it up and it showed. Joyride was a good album but it lacked personality in my opinion, Songs For You feels like what Tinashe really wants to do and it’s great. Plus this cover is stunning.

HIGHLIGHTS: “Save Room For Us”, “Know Better” & “Perfect Crime”

Norman F***ing Rockwell! by Lana Del Rey

Yup, you must be thinking “why the f*** is it this low?!?!?” Well, let me explain. I have never been the biggest Lana fan (:emofish:) but I’ve learned to appreciate her music with time. NFR is a great album, and I have really enjoyed several songs from this album, but as a whole it’s not enough to be super high in my list (please don’t cancel me)

Freya Ridings by Freya Ridings

Another 2019 discovery, this album is gorgeous in every way. Her voice is haunting and her lyrics are amazing, it’s mainly ballad-y but it also has great pop moments that make it a very solid debut. She earned a new fan, definitely check her out if you haven’t

Singular Act II by Sabrina Carpenter

Just missed the Top 10 by a hair :jonny2: this album is amazing and another great body of work by Sabrina. Although I prefer Act I because it has better highs, this still didn’t disappoint and established her as a very underrated pop star and one of my favorite pop girls

Charli by Charli XCX

Her EXTREMELY highly anticipated third studio album definitely did not disappoint. Even though I (or anyone) don’t consider it her best, it did the job and delivered the perfect Charli-esque pop anthems that we were dying for (except for Taxi). Although I don’t use a few of the tracks, Charli still managed to crack the final Top 10 of 2019

when we all fall asleep, where do we go? by Billie Eilish

Another amazing debut of 2019, her previous EP was an amazing introduction to the GP and this album was an even better way of saying “I’m not going anywhere b*tches!”. I actually had a really hard time picking 3 highlights since most of this album is very good, and the visuals have also been A+, perfect debut era for a new girl

Saves the World by MUNA

Probably my favorite discovery of 2019. I wasn’t familiar with them until I saw some stuff about them on Twitter around the time the lead single came out. I absolutely became obsessed with it and when the album dropped it became one of my favorite projects of the year without hesitation. I still have yet to listen to their debut album but I am sure it’s just as great as this album.

Dedicated by Carly Rae Jepsen

It is no E•MO•TION, of course, but it’s still an amazing pop album that didn’t fail to meet the expectations after such a perfect pop record. I think there should be a new genre created called “Carly Rae Pop” cause it’s just too good.

Heard It In a Past Life by Maggie Rogers

We are starting to get inside the territory of the top favorites, I had a really hard time choosing my final top 5 and my AOTY because they’re all too good. HIAPL’s main characteristic was that it proved to be timeless cause it aged like fine wine. It was the first album of 2019 that came out and still managed to be in my final Top 6, that’s how good it was.

:skull: this was probably a bad decision and just very impulsive but well... it’s been only 3 days since this album came out and I’ve been very obsessed. A lot of people haven’t liked it but I personally think it was a huge step up from her debut, I love every song and I have not listened to anything else since it came out. Sue me.

Another 2019 debut, and one of my favorites. I wasn’t a big Clairo fan before but this album turned me into one of the biggest stans I must admit, it’s just so cohesive and soothing and I think it has no skips, which makes it the perfect length. I just have nothing bad to say about this
