God Control and Religion are amazing :jonny:

As for Happiness it wasn't really one of my favorite tracks from NFR, but a solid choice nonetheless.

Religion is absolute talent. I'm glad people are stanning Glad He's Gone because it'll give me hope to one day finally stan it. Maybe when I see her live.

10-6 are all good albums but tun is a little out of place compared to the rest.

Oh wow someone with Madame X in a top 10?! :jonny:  I love you.  God control is like the 5th best song from that album but I'll take what I can get.

BESTFICTION'S TOP 20 ALBUMS OF 2019

#5

Titanic Rising

Weyes Blood

a1673180911_10.jpg

I listened to this album in the first half of the year but I ended up appreciating it a lot only recently; you can’t take away from how magical the record sounds and how surreal the arrangements are.

Favorites: A Lot’s Gonna Change, Andromeda, Movies

#4

[x x]

LOOΠΔ

917hQTT5yJL._SS500_.jpg

With [x x] LOONA proves that they are the one of the most unique and promising voices in k-pop; the 5 new songs that are serving as a continuation of their debut EP [+ +] are establishing their signature sound with airy synths and dreamy aesthetics. Usually k-pop goes all out sonically with bombastic, even noisy at times, instrumentals but LOONA aims for a more subtle and playful style, which results in a much more pleasing listening.

Favorites: Butterfly, Curiosity, Stylish, Perfect Love, Hi High

#3

Pang

Caroline Polachek

m1000x1000

Caroline’s debut album under her real name is basically what Charli XCX tried to do with Charli and… did not excel that much in my opinion; Pang is dazzlingly clear without any single overproduced moment. I am also very impressed with Caroline’s vocal performance on the album, she uses them and processes them in such an artful, skillful way, they sound magical on songs like Hey Big Eyes. The vocals also enhance Caroline’s already interesting takes on different genres like doo-wop or ambient and Danny L Harle’s production solidifies the album; overall Pang leaves an impression of a very thought out and polished record.

Favorites: Hit Me Where It Hurts, Ocean Of Tears, Hey Big Eyes, Caroline Shut Up, Door

#2

Madame X

Madonna

Madame_X_standard.png

Madame X, while not perfect by any means, marks Madonna finally getting inspiration from creating music. I was very excited by the concept of a secret agent who travels around the world, which is the reason of so many world music influences; the songs that originate from that idea are my favorite on the record. Latin bops on the album are very good as well, Madonna has always knew how to make then. However, there are some odd cuts like obnoxious I Rise or generic Future and the excessive use of autotune is not very appealing but overall Madame X sounds very bizarre, in a good way. It’s very nice seeing Madonna doing what she wants to do and sticking with her artistic choices.

Favorites: God Control, Batuka, Killers Who Are Partying, Extreme Occident, Faz Gostoso, I Don’t Search I Find

#1

Norman ****ing Rockwell!

Lana Del Rey

81dp5g3JTwL._SY355_.jpg

In case you still haven’t realized it yet, NFR! makes is clearer than ever that, in fact, Lana Del Rey is one of the most important artists of our generation. Lana elevated everything to the sky-high level on this album; the production is very elegant, sonic cohesion is present more than in any Lana record her lyrics are amazing as well. She delivers hard hitting lines right off the bat on the title track and never lowers the bar. In Lana’s hands even the simplest words are weapons, and they are deadly. What has also changed is that her attitude towards life, it’s evident that she now takes control of her life and aims to provide help, care and acceptance to her loved ones; she used to mourn their self-destructive selves but now it’s different. On “hope is a dangerous thing” Lana evaluates her career, her life path and perfectly ends this triumphant album. Brilliant.

Favorites: Mariners Apartment Complex, Love Song, Cinnamon Girl, California, Happiness is a Butterfly

BESTFICTION'S TOP 30 SONGS OF 2019

#5

Shake It

Charli XCX feat. Big Freedia, cupcakke, Brooke Candy & Pablo Vittar

Charli_XCX_-_Charli.png

An avant garde banger, what else can I say? Charli atlerates her voice to imitate the sounds of literally everything, wherer it’s a femmebot or bubbling water. It’s great how she gives an opportunity to shine on a major label album to these artists and all of them bring something unique to the song.

#4

Faz Gostoso

Madonna feat. Anitta

Madame_X_standard.png

When Madame X was announced, I expected some interesting forward-thinking songs to hit me hard but this Latin bop stuck to me the most; it’s a cover but it’s better than the original, the beats are much smoother which works in the song’s favor. The chemistry between Madonna and Anitta is great as well.

#3

Door

Caroline Polachek

m1000x1000

Door was an amazing introduction to Caroline, the song has so many layers and the outro is simply stunning. Idk what to say, it's a very well crafted art pop song.

#2

California

Lana Del Rey

81dp5g3JTwL._SY355_.jpg

The opening line of California has to be my favorite lyric from Lana. It’s so simple but it’s so touching and endearing. California is quite easy to overlook on the album but I could relate to the emotion of care and acceptance to the person she dedicated the song to so much.

#1

Butterfly

LOOΠΔ

Combining soft verses with a powerful EDM drop, LOONA makes an interesting dynamic in Butterfly; the Butterfly effect even strengthens with vocal performance of the members – each of them bring something unique to it. This song is truly taking me to high heavens; add to it a music video that has a stunning choreography and celebrates girl power all around the world and you can see an amazing empowering message that LOONA delivered with Butterfly. Stan talent. Stan LOONA.
