Pink Matter Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 So much I missed I really enjoyed Alabama Shakes' last album. Is Jaime anything like it? I was lowkey disgusted with 7 rings when it first came out asfghjkl but it's such a bop ugh LION BABE and Tinashe glad to see some love for the former and SFY is a great introduction for new fans while exploring a lot of sounds she's done in the past. I remember listening to Raveena's album and REALLY enjoying it but I never went back to it

ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 22, 2019 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 22, 2019 40 - 31 40. Sudan Archives - Athena Great debut album from Sudan Archives. Love her mix of influences from electronic to North African music to more contemporary rnb for an album that still stays true to her. Love her writing on this and she definitely lived up to the hype after her first two EPs Faves: Limitless, Glorious, Black Vivaldi Sonata 39. Grace Lightman - SIlver Eater The cover was pretty interesting so I checked this out and wasn't dissapointed. Great electropop debut with amazing vocals and a loose but interesting concept tying the record together. Really underrated! Faves: Silver Eater, Zero Impact, Faultless 38. Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Great album from Billie. Thought out writing, amazing production and some interesting elements make this a really distinct debut. Bass heavy trap mixed with acoustic ballads and some pop bops as well and it all still feels cohesive. Faves: when the party's over, my strange addiction, bad guy 37. Charli XCX - Charli Great album from Charli. She continuously elevates her sound and tries new things which works especially well on her 3rd album. Love the mix of heartfelt writing, straight up bangers and crazy production. Faves: Shake It, Official, Click 36. Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow A great album. I really enjoyed the melodies and the atmospheric production on this. An album on love and looking back at past memories. Faves:Comeback Kid, Seventeen, I Told You Everything 35. Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated De.di.ca.ted is such a nice follow up to Emotion for Carly. Great production and fun lyrics cover 15 tracks on idealistic/ obsessive love. Faves: Real Love, Julien, No Drug Like Me 34. Vagabon - Vagabon Vagabon flexes her taste in various genres on her sophomore album. Lovely production ( mostly self-produced!) and great distinct vocals on this. It did take more than a listen to really get into since the singles were so different from the rest of the album but it was worth it. Reflective and moving. Faves: Every Woman, Water Me Down, Wits About You 33. The Japanese House - Good At Falling Really great debut album from The Japanese House. One of my fave albums from earlier this year but it didn't too well for me. Still a great breakup album. Faves: Lilo, Follow My Girl, Worms 32. Anna Wise - As If It Were Forever An eclectic debut from Anna Wise that combines the different sounds she's explored in the past from ambient to more contemporary rnb with great results. Lovely production on this. I always enjoy when songs flow into each other. Great guest verses and vocals as well Faves: Juice, Nerve, Count My Blessings 31. Kelsey Lu - Blood Gorgeous debut from Kelsey Lu. Love the production and the vocals on this. A mix of influences and genres on this without feeling random or too referential. Could have squeezed in 'Shades of Blue' though. Faves: Due West, I'm Not in Love, Blood

Ewan Chaos Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 I still need to listen to that Sudan album! It's on my list, so I'm glad to see it represented in your Best Of. Charli & Dedicated too low! But you gave them good write-ups and top picks so I forgive you. kii at de.di.cate.ed. Japanese House, Anna ou, and Kelsey, also great picks! Amazing song picks as always, but I gotta give Peach Sky and Julien the biggest shout-outs because THOSE SONGS ****! Also NFR title track has been making me wanna cry recently, in a good way.

ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 23, 2019 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 23, 2019 30 - 21 30. Purple Pilgrims - Perfumed Earth Listened cuz I liked the cover a lot. Gorgeous dream pop album here. Lovely witchy melodies and vocals. "Delphiniums in Harmony/ Two Worlds Away" is such a beautiful ambient track. I can listen to it on a loop for hours. Faves: Sensing Me, Ancestors Watching, I'm Not Saying 29. Lizzo - Cuz I Love You High energy from start to finish. Great album from Lizzo. She's doing everything to 110% on this and it really pays off that it's around 30 minutes. The production and themes of self love might feel stale on paper but Lizzo breathes life into both. Faves: Juice, Tempo, Exactly How I Feel 28. Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next This is a great follow up to Sweetener. Fun songwriting and great production in general. The addition of vulnerable tracks 'imagine' and 'ghostin' rounds things up very nicely. Faves: in my head, ghostin, 7 rings 27. Stella Donelly - Beware Of The Dogs Really lovely voice and great song writing makes this distinct from the typical singer-songwriter album. Stella sings on a variety on topics and nothing seems forced or out of place. There's a great honesty and clarity in how she uses her words. Faves: Watching Telly, Boys Will Be Boys, Tricks 26. Lucy Rose - No Words Left Lovely album with songs on heartbreak and loneliness that don't feel too heavy or forced. Fave: Solo(w), The Confines Of This World, Save Me From Your Kindness 25. Konradsen - Saints and Sebastian Stories Really gorgeous album. Love how the production is minimalist but really detailed at times. Songs feel quiet and anthemic at the same time with gorgeous but vague lyrics and vocals. A really unique debut. Faves: Never Say A, Television Land, Red to Rhyme 24. Bat For Lashes - Lost Girls Gorgeous sound design. the songs work so well in the album context especially love how "Mountains" flows back into "Kids In the Dark". Natasha Khan knows I'll be looping this. Vague and simple lyrics with really detailed production. Great follow-up to "The Bride". Faves: Kids In the Dark, Peach Sky, Mountains 23. Slayyyter - Slayyyter amazingly consistent debut. Slayyyter's early 2000s references are obvious without sounding overdone which not everyone can do. Amazing production, great melodies. A party from start to finish with varied influences from pc music, to mainstream rnb/ pop from the 2000s Faves: Cha Ching, Touch My Body, Tattoo 22. Erika De Casier - Essentials Great debut from Erika De Casier. Love the 90s rnb vibes and the early Janet vibes. She did a great job being inspired by that sound without sounding reductive. A really chill listen. Faves: Rainy, Do My Thing, Little Bit 21. Megan Thee Stallion - Fever my no. 2 most played album. Such a fun mixtape from Megan. Packed with bangers and attitude, it's easy to see why Megan Thee Stallion is a rapper to watch out for. Faves: Pimpin, Sex Talk, Big Drank
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 23, 2019 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 23, 2019 20 - 11 Spoiler Attempting this formating for my top 20 songs. it looks a mess but xx. Rules is such a bop. Doja's rap talents shouldn't be underestimated and she proves with this bop. In My Head is the standout of Thank u, next. everything about it stuck with me. Wish it was a single. When I Die is probably the most controversial of this bunch but it's such a bop. Chatroom is so powerful considering it's on sexual abuse x. Love the lyrics. Lark whew is an almost too perfect opener. All the time has me so hyped for Zara 2. Forgotten Eyes probaby has my favorite writing this year. Such a touching track. The chorus is so powerful. Movies is so grandeur and everything about it is so exciting to listen to. Cellophane is such a gorgeous track. I didn't want two Twigs tracks in my top 10 so I had to sabotage her a bit nn. Juice whew. Remembering when Juice came out and being mad at it flopping. Glad Lizzo's career did a 360 this year. She deserves it.
