5 - 1

DUbAAch.png

5. Tinashe - Die A Little Bit

What a bop from Tinashe. I love everything about this lead single especially the cute parts from her brother.

rbncW6x.png

4. Haim - Summer Girl

Such a heart warming track from Haim and another amazing lead single in my top 5. Especially love the sax on this

1PlCHBU.png

3. FKA Twigs - Home With You

The lyrics are so impactful on this for me especially the chorus. Such a heartbreaking track and for me easily the best song on Mary Magdalene because of how complex and vulnerable it is

G96oPlC.png

2. Weyes Blood - Andromeda

My introduction to Weyes Blood is an instant classic for me. Released in January and every listen still feels like my first one. Love everything about this perfect lead single.

AND FOR MY SOTY!

1 . Lana Del Rey - The Greatest

It was pretty hard to pick from my top 3 which I should name my SOTY for 2019 but I think lyrically "The Greatest" had to take the cake for me. It feels like a song you've known and loved forever. The themes of nostalgia are so real on this and always bring me at least close to tears. Jack also snapped on the production and his mind calling this his favorite track on NFR!. The outro is also such a melodramatic way to end this track and my ass loves that

Top 10

Y6Y9DED.png

10. Beyoncé - Homecoming: The Live Album

Only streamed Beychella once so it's nice to be reminded of how remarkable the show was and not only visually. Bey breathes new life into her catalog of bops that just takes them to another level. Simply amazing. The transitions, the interludes, the vocals etc.

Faves: The entire thing? the transitions were actually my fave moments on this

JpWeb2d.png

9. Solange - When I Get Home

The production is such a highlight on this and I love just how different WIGH is from ASATT. Lighter subject matters, sexier and just happier in general. It's the perfect follow up to ASATT and the visuals were gorgeous to watch

Faves: Sound of Rain, Dreams, Almeda

k1aizSB.png

8. Jamila Woods - Legacy! Legacy!

Amazing sophomore album from Jamila. Her writing is such a force on this album. Paying homage to many greats. Reading on how each inspired their respective track was so interesting and the tracks hold so well on their own.
Faves: Zora, Basquiat, Baldwin

6UxZZ2c.png

7. Hatchie - Keepsake

Great debut from Hatchie. Builds from Sugar + Spice with more variety and a lot better song writing. Generally a heartbreak album with lyrics that really punch and fun production and melodies that still make the album really fun to listen to.

Faves: Not That Kind, Without a Blush, Stay With Me

SeB8m5G.png

6. Nilüfer Yanya - Miss Universe

Nilüfer delivered such an exciting debut album. Love her voice and the mixed bag of influences that are clear without feeling derivative. There's a lot of inward reflection that I love and the idea she's doing this in a futuristic spa is pretty neat and doesn't feel forced. My top 6 is aoty material tbh xx.

Faves: Tears, Safety Net, In Your Head

w7iwzx4.png

5. Angel Olsen - All Mirrors

The production literally gives me chills and elevates her writing on 'all mirrors' to something epic. In love with the variety on this especially in her vocals.

Faves: Lark, Chance, Impasse

uFFcEEP.png

4. Caroline Polachek - Pang

Brilliant debut album from Caroline. Love the vocals and the production. Varied and ties her previous works well with some PC music influences. Pretty emotional writing as well. Particularly love how her writing moves between relying on metaphors and being very direct.
Faves: I Give Up, Door, Parachute

9RXF9pu.png

3. Lana Del Rey - Norman ****ing Rockwell!

Really great production (Jack did an amazing job. kudos to him as well) and melodies on this. What makes this stand out for me are the lyrics. The writing is very in your face this era but still has some of her most melodramatic lines. Finally got to see her live this year as well so I'm especially grateful for this album even though she only did like 3 songs from it ff.

Faves: Venice Bitch, The greatest, Norman ****ing Rockwell

FLLpead.png

2. FKA Twigs - Magdalene

FKA Twigs pours her pain, emotional and physical into her sophomore album and it's an instant classic for me. the lyricism, vocals and production are so well tied together, every listen is even more exciting than the last. You feel everything she sings about on this.
Faves: home with you, mirrored heart, sad day

And for my aoty....

1. Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising

I get chills listening to this record. Really timeless and well put together. The varied production, the simple songwriting, gorgeous vocals and melodies that get stuck in your head. Definitely my AOTY ever since it's release and even in my top 10 albums from this decade. I actually got into collecting vinyl cuz of the album so it has a special place in my heart.

Faves: Truly all of it x

Singles~ The greatest, Andromeda and Die a Little Bit  All songs I find cute but I'm not in love with them and also wouldn't say they're album highlights. || Albums~ Oh wow, it seems like you packed all of 2019's big indie faves into your top 5! All Mirrors and Pang are especially great. Not a fan of live albums but I'm sure Homecoming is amazing, well then again I already heard it when it was 1st performed. :lakitu: Keepsake YUP, love her :smitten: Without a Blush, Stay with Me, Lark, Chance, I Give Up, Door, NFR :clap3:
