Remmy Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Motivation is really great and this is coming from a huge 5H hater. Your Natasha notes, yup... actually I'd say her album barely even came in the first place. Can't Let Go is nice and one of the few songs I remember
Lazuli Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 i am easy to find is cute but honestly a let down from sleep well beast not you calling nilufer overrated ...
World Eater Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 The Nationalists gave me a good sleep with this album, I'll give them that give miss Yanya another chance, not only she came up with a great debut album, but also grew a personality since last year, now THAT'S talent

It's one of her best songs with some of her best lyrics but is so underrated by the little lanasters nnnnn hey at least be glad I included the good sis in my ranking at ALL given my Lana track record. Thank you for sharing my love of Bartender too! Looks like she loves it too since she gave it a video haha to the Lanasters. Many potential hits and very few filler tracks. One of my favorite albums of 2019 for sure. NFR was the first Lana album I listened to. Really good, though I'm not a huge fan of the longer tracks. Cinnamon Girl is my favorite from the album, followed by the opening track. It's got a smooth yet catchy chorus. Jayda G especially deserves more praise! Love those house bops she came out with this year. SHOCKED to see Lydia I made album thread and it has like 0 replies, but overall it was definitely a step down from her debut. I liked Can You Find Her Place and the album opener the most though. Well let me try the LEON album again then since it is a quick listen, but I was just bored with it! Can You Find Her Place IS cute so good pick there! On 12/18/2019 at 7:54 AM, Madame X said: OK sorry for missing so much. J - I didn't listen to either of your main highlights, Maybe I'll listen to Jade though. I got into Jai Paul's leaked album this year but wasn't super keen on his two new songs, not bad stuff though. High Alice deserved to be in the best category K - I didn't know Kishi Bashi was still around! Paprika Pony is the right pick.... it's faux trap and I luv it. L - I feel like Lizzo is such a controversial artist this year The only song I stuck with is TEMPO though. Guillible fool is amazing ****. IWOL is good too but I felt like that was just a trouble in paradise leftover. Actually surprised you didn't check out Jenny Lewis. You'd probably like that album more than Jade's. I actually never listened to Jenny Hval before so the fact that I even gave the album a listen was luck! But it's lovely. LISTEN TO KISHI BASHI BISH I forgot he was in of montreal, who you stan. THANK YOU with Gullible Fool I am tired of people whining about how it's bad just because it's a long track (and the edit version is right there...) Totally agree with IWOL. On 12/18/2019 at 12:18 PM, Remmy said: K~ King Princess getting runner up, as she should!!! Your Katy singles ranking is perfect. Kween Kesha did what she had to do. ssdfif the Khalid lashings Talk is excellence though, so I can definitely agree with that. Kim Sweet Spot, Do Me & Icy yup yup Clarity (song) is a grower. Did you miss out on her Halloween project??? L~ Oop at Lizzo beating out Lana Relatable, actually. I'm also angry about Juice not being a smash (and Soulmate's single release being shelved.) Bartender is my least favorite from NFR hehe The title track is really a discography highlight, whew... she really didn't need to serve that hard. @OTR: "Had to include it, come on." Did you, did you REALLY? I did not bother with the Kim Halloween album actually, ah well. Could have been fun to check out since I had a Halloween party this year. Well I'm glad you are actually like the only other person who agrees with me on Lizzo! On 12/18/2019 at 4:29 PM, jose168 said: YES KISHI, great album. I absoutely agree on Enjoy Your Life, it definitely has a FROOT vibe to it, the rest of pics are quite alright too. It's just a shame how she wasted her talents on... that I have yet to check out MUNA but I liked some of their earlier songs like I Know A Place I am so glad you get it with Marina You would really enjoy MUNA"s album from this year then if you at least liked IKAP! On 12/20/2019 at 4:51 PM, Remmy said: Omg Mika I feel like we're the only 2 Best Ofs he will appear on... I wasn't expecting him to release his best album, especially after his weakest from 2015. Love the 4 songs you highlighted Maggie Let me ignore the notes section just this once MUNA snapped once again Got into them this year and both albums are fantastic. We are truly connected on faves once again, we have the same top 4 but in different orders. When Never comes on I always pause when the music stops and go wild during the autotune part YES the breakdown in Never is just so ****ing POWERFUL ugh their minds. And also ugh our minds at similar tastes. Which sucks because her album had some great bops on it. Justice for Juice!! It deserved to be a smash. Jerome is also another standout from the album. Glad you enjoyed NFR!. Nice to see a nod to Bartender as it really is an underrated song. + wish more people liked the LION BABE album Into Me is cute tho M: MUNA's last album was cute so glad to see their new album is an improvement. + had no idea Mura Masa dropped some new sings gonna go check em out later! You know, I felt the exact same way about King Princess, but when I gave the album a listen I knew the girl actually had talent. New Mura Masa album next year in January if you can wait a little bit! On 12/21/2019 at 9:24 AM, World Eater said: Glad you're team Do You Love Her Now He is very Prince-esque, which is always a good thing, but DYLHN is just otherworldly Jamila, Jenny and Jessie all legends, yes I gotta say I ignored this CORRESPONDENCE project from Jens and whoever else worked on it, but then again I did the same with Postcards, actually let me listen to that bop about a 3D model of a tumor from his last album Where do I start with Kishi Bashi? Had an eye out on him for a while We're pretty much on the same page as for Kim Gordon, just revisited this album and I'm pretty sure it would end up being on my list had I gotten into it earlier I actually enjoyed Cuz I Love You quite a bit, but I gotta say at times it feels really lazy lyrics-wise Lana and Lil Nas X deserved Didn't have time or energy to listen to miss talentless hack's whole album, but just checked out The Time and it actually didn't sound as bad as anything from Darling, I'll give her that! Also, idk if you're watching RuPaul's Drag Race, but she looks like Trinity The Tuck on the album cover Not Marina, SIS jdfndfkmdf I'm a former stan and even got to see her live this year, but this album is just horrendous I could go on about how bad it is for hours To Be Human is one of the most shallow faux-woke tracks I have ever heard Quite excited for that Mura Masa album even though none of the singles really stuck with me. Still though, having high hopes for that Tirzah track I definitely will if they play here! I've heard that this one festival almost booked them but they backed out right before the announcement Is He the more preferred track??? I assumed DYLHN would be. Both amazing tho. OMG hahaha wait I never listened to Jens before Should I? KISHI BASHI! My personal favorite album is his 3rd, Sonderlust, so I'd start with that one, or his second album since that's the most accessible. Then check out the debut since it's a quick listen. SCREAM AT LYDIA I just looked Trinity up and girl........... you are not wrong at all. But kinda stan! NNNNN I appreciate that you still saw Marina live even with this trash album (just like me). Ewan Chaos Posted December 24, 2019 Author Posted December 24, 2019 And here's an update! I have a feeling I will probably be less detailed with things as time goes on since I kinda wanna finish this before the end of the year, but we'll see. Letter: O Top Artist: Omar Apollo I was very happy to have discovered this dude back in January and then keep following as he released what is probably my favorite EP of the year. I adore the influences that he has with each song and he’s a very creative dude. So Good is barely the top pick for me because it’s so effortless in all aspects and I just adore the bass in the background. What a pretty chorus too, with the synths line and then cut into the next verse. It’s… as the song says… so good. Ashamed is a close second because that’s the song I discovered by him and LISTEN to those ****ing Prince influences! I adore that the song starts in that heavy funk and low-voiced singing, before being a little bit more airy and instrumental, then back to the funk. Another effortlessly cool track. Kickback would be a close number 3, which actually kinda starts off sounding like Sincerity is Scary by The 1975. Now THIS is a perfect little party track, and if you haven’t seen the video it makes me want to get on a boat, party, and blast this song on repeat. The slower tracks were my “least favorite”, but they were still all good! Friends would be my top pick of them. Dude also released a lil one-off single about a month ago called Hit Me Up which is another must-listen. Excited to keep following this dude’s career! Runner-Up: Orville Peck I think if I had discovered Orville’s record earlier in the year instead of like… October, I would have ranked him above Omar, but I was blasting Omar’s EP for ages and listening to the singles since January, so I had to put him up. But yes, gay country king! Really liked this record, really like his style, really like everything about this dude. Queen of the Rodeo gives me the best mix of “gay class” and “country twang” since some of the songs don’t always give me that COUNTRY vibe that I am looking for. I love the big part of the song about halfway through too before it goes down a bit. Other top picks would be Dead of Night, Turn to Hate, Take You Back, and Roses are Falling. No duds imo! Additional Musicians Under this Letter: *bolded artists/songs are my recommendations* Artist Loves It She's a Cute Girl It's a No From Me Notes Of Monsters and Men Alligator Waiting for the Snow, Vulture Vulture Sleepwalker I liked this Okay Kaya Baby Little Tween Whoever PM'd me/everyone about this, thank you. Only listened to this song for this year, will check out in 2020. Omni Skeleton Key Flat Earth, Underage, Sincerely Yours, Genuine Person This was a fantastic end of the year listen! It would have been top 2 if I'd had some more time with it, tho can be a bit samey.
K$Ellie Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 skdjksjd the stockholm syndrome with Marina the singles were okay? didn't inspire me to check out the album but Orange Trees was kinda cute I only use her for Froot tho the MUNA album was v nice, Number One Fan, Pink Light and Stayaway were some of my faves too Maggie is a biT overrated I'd say, she's the ~alt~ girl that pop fans like but she ask some cute songs, Alaska being her best imo Motivation has been kinda stuck in my head but I won't give in cause I dragged it when it came out and it's really basic 2 minutes ago, Ewan Chaos said: HOLLY HERNDON I listened to her album in like 2015, hated it, was too nervous to tell people I hated it, so I figured I'd just skip out on listening to the album she had this year. Srry sis you must teach me the KPOP ways apparently! this album was dreadful so you didn't miss out on much just Loona will suffice, I think some indies like them since they worked with Grimes maybe try the Max & Match EP if you're interested and some of their solo songs like new, Love Cherry Motion, Eclipse, Heart Attack, Sonatine
Eeveelution Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 ff I got the kaya pm too. Her new singles are good but her peak remains Damn, Gravity!
Remmy Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Of Monsters and Men Yeah I just liked their album but didn't love it. Wasn't mad about them going into a slightly poppier sound. Sleepwalker was one of my faves
Ewan Chaos Posted December 26, 2019 Author Posted December 26, 2019 Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everyone! Here come 2 fairly quick updates xx Letter: P Top Artist: Paul Cauthen Another country lad in my top ranking! I never thought I would have seen the day. Jumping right into the reasoning, I listened to one of the best songs of the year Cocaine Country Dancing and KNEW I had to listen to the full album. The song is just a lot of fun and the lyrics have such a silly flair with the timing of “quarter to one” etc. The production absolutely slaps, and the breakdown at the end of the track is one of my favorite music moments of 2019. Seriously, at least give this track a listen if anything. Big Velvet is another great one, absolutely love the baritone voice in the chorus and the slight self-referential “cocaine!” line. Crooning king. Freak is hella fun too, told in a way of a story about prisoners, including a “freak like me”. Can’t Be Alone is epic and very pretty. And to throw down one more track to make this a top 5, I’d go with Give ‘em Peace because I just love that guitar on the track. Runner-Up: Purple Mountains Just wanna say rest in peace, first of all. Storyline Fever is my favorite pick because I really like the guitar on the track and I actually kinda find the lyrics pretty relatable. I really like his singing on this track too. All My Happiness is Gone is… :( but it is another track that I think is well-made. Margaritas as the Mall I have to LAUGH at the title. Good track though actually! And actually She’s Making Friends, I’m Turning Stranger is another top pick for me. Additional Musicians Under this Letter: *bolded artists/songs are my recommendations* Artist Loves It She's a Cute Girl It's a No From Me Notes P!nk Hustle Saw her live earlier in the year for free so felt I needed to listen to the album. Not bad! Peggy Gou Starry Night - Edit Dance talent, I love she Pell Skyfall (feat. Ambre & Malik Ninety Five) Bitch Ass, Show Me Cute rap album! Perfume Genius Eye in the Wall Pop Song Alright sis where we goin with this? Pet Shop Boys Dreamland (feat. Years & Years) Cute! Pile On a Bigger Screen You know I don't remember listening to this LOL Pixx Small Mercies Not as good as the previous album, definitely not! pronoun stay run, everybody knows, as if, temporary tantrum Underrated album! Definitely a close #3 on the listing for P
Ewan Chaos Posted December 26, 2019 Author Posted December 26, 2019 Letter: Q Top Artist: Quinn XCII This will be a quick update because the only reason I included this artist is so that I actually had someone in the Q section LMAO! Right Where You Should Be is good because I really like Louis Futon and he does the production on this track which is cute. Ashe is okay sometimes and I like her on this track as well. Quinn is fine on the song! Werewolf is another good track. And the rest is MEH! Runner-Up: N/A Additional Musicians Under this Letter: *bolded artists/songs are my recommendations* N/A
Pink Matter Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 O: Yass Omar and Orville! Can't wait to see what they both have in store. P: Yes Peggy, yes talent Also had no idea PG dropped a new single so let me take a gander at that. Q:
TheWayWeWere Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 P!nk serving her laziest and boring work this year is beyond me Happy is my favorite from it tho
Remmy Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 Kiii at Q P!nk Hurts 2B Human is a little underapprecated. Hustle is actually my least favorite from the album I also saw her for free, during the TTAL & Beautiful Trauma tours But the seats were bad both times.
Ewan Chaos Posted December 27, 2019 Author Posted December 27, 2019 Here comes another update then I'll be travelling! WORKING HARD ON THIS STILL and will be sure to check out other Best Ofs and reply to comments! Letter: R Top Artist: Ra Ra Riot At this point just call me the king of controversial top artists because all a yall are gonna be like WHOMST?! Well give them a listen! Rostam produced some of the tracks on this album and I know you gays know who he is. I was playing the crap out of this album over the summer and had a lot of hype on the album based on the lead single. Speaking of Rotam, one of the tracks he produced, opener Flowers, would be my top pick from this album. It’s in the vein of upbeat Fleetwood Mac tracks with strong hooks and a mix of folk-pop and rock tones with the electric guitar & violin. I like how the song shifts a few times, especially when it goes low about halfway through before going into the last chorus. Lead single Bad to Worse is also a bop - a cute midtempo track that was the lead single and is just so pretty even if the lyrical content is a bit of a downer. On the other end of the lyrical spectrum, I adore Backroads because you can just feel the joy in the dude’s singing in the chorus and the fun piano and drumming instrumentation in the track is killer. Bitter Conversation is in the similar vein as Backroads, leaning a bit more into the disco-pop aspects. And A Check for Daniel is the most “outlandish” track on the album which really lends a lot as the closing track. Runner-Up: Róísín Múrphý A QUEEN! I think she would have been my top artist if I finished up last year’s Best Of, so I’m happy to have her up in the Runner-Up category even with only 2 singles, the first of which having come out in June. It’s hard for me to pick a top pick of the two singles, but if you asked me TODAY it would be Incapable. I think it leans more towards the “new-age version” of Roisin by leaning more into that kinda funk-pop rather than the shimmering Overpowered-like disco. That bass absolutely SLAPS! And the progression of the song being where Ro is boasting about never being broken hearted being flipped and actually sliding more into the heartbreak realm when she says that she’s “unavailable for love” and in general “incapable of love”. Narcissus is obviously a fantastic track in its own right too and falls to the latter category, sounding a bit more like Plaything, Jealousy, or even Let Me Know. The bridge with the disco soaring strings section is amazing and then leads into my favorite part of the song which is the “be in love…” part. So fun! Additional Musicians Under this Letter: *bolded artists/songs are my recommendations* Artist Loves It She's a Cute Girl It's a No From Me Notes Red Hearse You Make It Easy Everybody Wants You Violence, Blessin Me You know... I feel like I hated half of this, thought 1/4 was okay, and liked the other 1/4 Rex Orange County Face To Face Never Had the Balls THE REST Bad album. Face to Face is actually pretty great and Never Had... is... terrible lyrically, but cute production Rhye Save Me Patience, Needed Awake Preferred last year's album tbh. Cute though. Rina Sawayama STFU! My new anthem for biphobic assholes Robert Ellis Passive Aggressive Topo Chico, Nobody Smokes Anymore, F**king Crazy, When You're Away, Let Me In Lullaby GREAT album! Seriously, check it out. Very close #3 Roosevelt Falling Back This song... was a good amount better than last year's album Rosalia Aute Cuture Con Altura, Millionaria, Yo Por Ti Tu Por Mi Yo Por Ti... What a queen. Roses Gabor I Could Be Yours Illusions, Turkish Delight, Stuff SHE FINALLY RELEASED AN ALBUM! I like it, would have been my #4 artist here Rosie Lowe Birdsong Pharoah, The Way, Little Bird God this song is sex. The rest of the album, I also liked! Rudimental Dark Clouds Album kinda sucked. Yeah. Ryan Beatty Patchwork Cute!
Remmy Posted December 28, 2019 Posted December 28, 2019 Well I'm glad there's more than 3 people on here that have heard the Red Hearse project But they deserve better! Violence was a grower for me, Blessin Me is probably my least favorite so I'm fine with your opinion on it. YMIE + EWY I think the title track and Half Love are slightly better than both though.
potent Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 Oh Bad to Worse was cute, but I kinda forgot about it by the end of the year. I should look further, I liked some of their songs in the past like Beta Love and Water.
World Eater Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 my dad Orville for once I started stanning someone before they blew up not twinkpeaks's intrusive Okay Kaya payola actually working gjnjjnfdfd but well, all of the singles from this year (including the Cher-approved cover of Believe) slap hard so I hope Perfume Genius is releasing The Sun Still Burns Here as soon as he's done performing it because I'm also hoping for an actual album next year if the singles Róisín released are leading into something bigger then one of her finest albums is on the way
