I stan your format so much. Ari :clap3:, the barrel praise and Angel Olsen also served

i'm mad that angel isn't in the top 2 tbh!

Posted

Ariana winning A isn't surprising, and I guess it's deserved :lakitu: I'm just not in LOVE with the album like most were/are. I agree buwyg,ib is a weak closer.

Just listened to Angel Olsen's album for the first time yesterday, and yup it definitely is great! Allie X :smitten: Aly & AJ :alexz: But you just think they're CUTE? How insulting. Wow you missed out on Adam's EP? VELVET: Side A is probably his 2nd best release (after Trespassing.) I wasn't really a fan of New Eyes though.

Ariana deserved!!! Love seeing the love for Angel and Aldous too!

The taste jumped out with Tonight! Definitely the best song on all mirrors.

allie and amber had nice singles but where are the albums?

Hoping to do 2 updates today! I had... quite a busy yesterday :eli:

Letter: B

Top Artist: Betty Who

Image result for betty who betty album cover

Betty Who finally released a full LP that’s basically all good! That’s not to shade her previous two albums too hard, but you can tell she’s really come into her own style by mixing the good aspects of the “throwback” first album and the “modern” second album. You can tell pretty immediately when Old Me opens up too how confident she’ll be on the record. I’m sure a lot of this can be attributed to her leaving/being dropped by her old record label and impressively pumping out new songs very quickly.

It took a bit for me to actually decide on a full favorite track, but it’s gonna be Do With It, which is basically one of two of my favorite sex bops of 2019. It had to grow on me for me to really like it, and I can’t even pinpoint what makes the song so good, but I’ve been really obsessed with the song since like mid-March. Great key change towards the end. Marry Me was the O.G. favorite of mine, a very cute love song with a fantastic chorus, and Stop Thinking About You is such a gorgeous “ballad.” The verse about “you’re everywhere, you’re in my blood…” is probably still one of my favorites of the year. Other greats for me are I Remember, Language, and The One.

Just Thought You Should Know is still my favorite pre-album track/favorite that was on the previous EPs, but I quite enjoy how sexy Taste is as well. The only song I actually don’t really like is Between You and Me. It’s basically a... crappy redux of JTYSK and super boring.

It also helps that I saw Betty live back in May. It was a great concert! I’ve seen her live before and she’s always super fun and a great performer.

Runner-Up: Bat For Lashes

Image result for bat for lashes lost girls album cover

Absolutely in love with this album too! Compared to The Bride, I feel like every song really serves a purpose on the album and the album doesn’t feel too long at all. Peach Sky is that bitch for me; cowbell, great drumming, memorable synthline, a weird reverse speak thing… what a divine track.

So Good is probably a close second, and then Safe Tonight, even if it is a somewhat safe track for Natasha. Feel For You was my favorite of the singles; what a bop! Really excited to see her live in February. Basically, short hair Natasha > long hair Natasha, sorry bout it.

Second Runner-Up: Big Thief

Image result for big thief album cover ufofImage result for big thief album cover two hands

I really didn’t want to have second runners-up because it would be too much, for each letter but I had to give Big Thief a shout-out as well for releasing 2 amazing albums in the same year. UFOF > Two Hands.

Running through quickly: my favorites from UFOF are Cattails, Strange, Betsy, Contact, and From. My favorite from Two Hands are Two Hands, Not, Forgotten Eyes, and Those Girls.

Aly & AJ released another great EP, I hope they pulls through and release album next

My friend was the one showing me their EP and I'm glad she did because talent! Would love an EP from them.

Omg finally shares my hate of break up :jonny5: Tu,n took awhile to grow on me but when it clicked I saw how cohesive and solid it was. Ghostin is the best song on it obviously. Also can I just say that I’m loving how original your concept is!

YES break up is so.... just a meh trap song! Ghostin, now that is also a cute song. I don't listen to her as much as I should. AND THANK YOU this is my fave way to do these Best Ofs.

I low key hate tun :zzz:Did nothing to me compared to Sweetener which I consider her magnum opus so far. If it was for me Aly & AJ would take the spot  so glad to see mentioning them :clap3:

sksksksk HEY but we agree that Sweetener outsold so at least there's that!

tu,n was a serve, such a step up from Sweetener :jonny6: bad idea is one of my faves for sure, such a bop :katie2:

I wouldn't call make up overrated cause I see people dragging it a lot but yeah it's quite **** buwyg,ib is quite generic tbh

I like Allie but her new songs aren't doing it for me :katie: Angel Olsen :heart2: I never listened to her before but this album slays a biT

the Tonight stanning :smitten: Endgame and Impasse are some of my faves and I don't use NLC either :-* I don't see AOA or Apink tho :keir:

And then this contrasting response right after lmao. Oh good, maybe I was confusing make up with fake smile that people overrate. And soz for the KPOP not stanning :eli:

Thanks sis, I'm loving it too :eli: You could probs just wait for their new album next year tbh.

always loved that you were doing this in alphabetical order nn, anyway, loved that The 1975 track and Ariana deserved, also love to see some love for Aldous

Alex Lahey is a talentless hag btw

SCREAMING you always absolutely hate completely innocuous musicians every year like... I think it was the boygenius ladies last year and then also Lydia :priceless: Knew you'd appreciate Aldous though.

I really liked Brittany's album, a nice surprise cause I wasn't really anticipating it or anything.

Oh wow another Blue Hawaii stan? They’re so underrated, ORIF was a great body of work :jonny: Betty Who is an interesting choice, I haven’t listened to her since The Valley maybe I should check her out. Big Thief and BFL had two of the best albums this year (maybe three :fan:). Honestly I don’t like Lost Girl’s aesthetics... Should’ve been darker imo. The Bride was a serve in terms of visuals.

Posted

I was not aware Betty Who was still alive. Good for her really

bring me the horizon were probs my favourite out of these, didn't expect them to be good ever so this was a nice surprise

Bastille + Bring Me The Horizon + Billie Eilish + Bishop Briggs :clap3:

kinda shook betty is your no. 1. bat for lashes had a slay album and I just got into big thief this year. some other slay choices in hms

Betty claiming B oh wow :jonny5: An amazing choice, she really dropped her best album on us (that contains her best song JTYSK) :alexz: Between You and Me had to grow on me when it came out, All This Woman is the main track I'm not in love with. I feel like Bey & The Gift were actually pretty underrated this year. Your Billie picks :smitten: You really just listed my Don't Feed the Pop Monster top 5, huh? :jonny2: We don't deserve them... truly.

omg, finally some recognition for Betty :jonny: she's so underrated, I hate her label for that :'(

this album actually her best project to date

Fitting in update #2 here today! Another big one.

Letter: C

Top Artist: Carly Rae Jepsen

Image result for carly rae jepsen dedicated album cover

I know you gays seem to sleep on someone every year (you lot still underrated Primal Heart too much), but UGH at everyone being like “Dedicated was disappointing, meh.” Yes it wasn’t as good as Emotion, even I can admit that, but come on! IT’S SO GOOD.

No Drug Like Me would actually probably be my favorite song of… the year. This year has been filled with sexy jams and this is just barely above Do With It. THAT is a phenomenal chorus. A pretty close second would be Julien which is disco-pop excellence. The breathy chorus paired with the “last breath that I breathe” is so good. Want You In My Room rounds out my top 3 because, well, it’s understandably basically everyone’s favorite track from the album. I think its short length lends to its strengths.

Other loves would be the “didn’t need to be called out Carly, thx” bop Too Much, the polarizing and bizarre Everything He Needs, the Mariah Carey driving-with-the-windows down underrated Automatically in Love, the fun, breezy, and WAY underrated funk of Feels Right, and the beautiful “closer” Real Love. The oooooonly track I don’t care for is Right Words Wrong Times.

Fun fact, she was probably also my favorite concert of the year (and I saw A LOT of concerts this year). It was the Friday of pride weekend too so… IT WAS LIT.

Runner-Up: Charli XCX

Image result for charli xcx charli album cover

Yeah yeah, Pop 2 is her magnum opus, I KNOW and I AGREE okay. But Charli the album is still quite good! It totally ****s live as well, so you really need to check out Choli live at one point and experience these songs live. I think you can tell the point she wanted to make with the album with the bangers, futuristic tracks, and electro-emo in the middle, but it totally got muddled down with some subpar songs like Warm & White Mercedes (which personally, I still get enjoyment out of both).

Anyway, my top 4 always rotate so I’ll just list them in order & try to bold one. Gone was always gonna be awesome with Chris on the track. I think lyrically it’s a pretty great move for Charli to actually be more emotional/deep than just partying while still fitting the BOP of a song that it is. Cross You Out is that True Romance-throwback excellence that really keeps you hooked with the banging production. Official is my favorite of the electro-emo tracks in the middle of the record. The melody is absolutely fantastic and I think the song is just phenomenal. Shake It… would probably be my top pick if I HAD to select one. I mean, I Got It is still my fave Pop 2 song, so it shouldn’t be surprising that I absolutely love a messy MASSIVE banger of a song.

Outside of those, I also enjoy Next Level Charli, I Don’t Wanna Know, February 2017, and 2099. And you know what, I think Thoughts gets a really bad rap. It starts off the electro-emo part of the album really well and you can tell it’s gonna be the “in your feelings” part of the record, with her autotune being WILD. Whatevs, y’all.

OKAY ALSO, does anyone else have friends who like... know you like Charli XCX and they go "omg just listened to her album and it's great! Fave song was 1999 :heart2:"? Because I swear that's like the definition of her career LOL.

Second Runner-Up: Caroline Polachek

Image result for caroline polachek pang album cover

Okay again… really didn’t want to have multiple runners-up for this, but Caroline got ME ****ED UP! I mean, I knew she had the range given all of her career in Charlift (well, we can overlook most of the debut LP), but this is amazing! Again, it’s hard for me to pick an absolute top favorite from the album, but I have to give it to Door for being the perfect intro to the project. It’s kinda hard for me to explain to people what I find ethereal about the track, but it’s just beauty in all forms.

Following Door, I have to highlight other singles So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings (yes I’ve memorized the dance moves…), the spine-tingling chorus of Ocean of Tears, the haunting closer Parachute, and Crying in Public-comparable Look At Me Now.

BUT I also am obsessed with Caroline Shut Up even tho… no one else seems to appreciate it like I do? And also I Give Up, the fantasy of Go As a Dream, and 2003 Postal Service-like Pang are great. I only don’t care for Hit Me Where it Hurts since it feels way too out-of-place and… tbh, I find it boring. I guess I get the appeal tho.

thankfully you bent the rules for big thief cuz they truly SERVED this year

sad that you can't seem to stan bon iver :'( iMi, Salem, Naeem and Faith are also a must from i,i!!

i'm so annoyed by people who keep on comparing emotion and dedicated, like, they can only like an album if it's full of explosive bops like NTIFY

caroline shut up is a standout after hmwih

Posted

Glad to see some BROODS and bring me the horizon stanning :clap3: Carly deserved, but Caroline deserved equally :clap3: Charli can go

Posted

I am TIRED of the CHVRCHES' Love Is Dead slander a year after it has been released! :weeps: I wasn't really feeling Charli (album) but Gone & Cross You Out are those girls, yep. Caroline did a great job w/ Pang, HMWIH was initially in my bottom 3 but then one day it just clicked. Now it's my #3. Wow everyone I love has won a letter so far :jonny5: "No Drug Like Me would actually probably be my favorite song of… the year. THAT is a phenomenal chorus." "WAY underrated funk of Feels Right, and the beautiful “closer” Real Love." Okay...... we are LEGIT on the same page here.

Bibio, Cigarettes and The Chemical Brothers are my favorites from the last updates. I didn't know Best Coast had released new material this year. Will check it out.

I didn't like any of Betty's previous releases, so I just kinda gave up on her :dies:

BFL.... wrong choice, you KNOW what the best song is from that album.

No Drug Like Me is def top 5 on the album but its too similar to emotion to be the best choice from the album.

warm and white mercedes being your bottom 2, good to see that you are on the right side of history.
