Ewan Chaos Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 Hey folks! I'm very excited to present my Best Of for this year; the last of the 2010's! If you don't know how my usual Best Ofs work, I like to have a little twist on the usual top 100 countdown and incorporate a way of showing off all the musicians I listened to in the year. What better way that reminding ATRL how the alphabet works! So the reason I have a Top 27 Artists tagline is one artist for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet, and then one artist with a miscellaneous beginning of their name (so numbers, symbols, etc. not counting things like parentheses). Last year was the first year I didn't finish up my Best Of which still kinda bothers me, so because of that I'm wanting to follow the same format as 2018 in ranking my top 2 (with some flex) musicians of the year for each letter of the alphabet, followed by a sheet of other musicians I enjoyed under the same letter of the alphabet. As always, there won't be a set schedule since December is a weird mix of being busy and not being busy, but I know I'm less busy this year, so I have confidence I can finish up this year! I'm looking forward to getting started tomorrow. Please also be sure to link me to your Best Ofs and I will try to keep up as much as I can! Love you all!
TheWayWeWere Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 I hope you finish your countdown this time I love your alphabetical orders
BlackoutZone Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 Loving the idea, might steal it next year since I hate the pressure with doing numeric rankings with my taste constantly changing top 20 of anything in a year
MusicLoverDude Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 this will be very interesting. Looking forward to it.
K$Ellie Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 Dua for D? even tho she underwhelmed this year
Ewan Chaos Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Here we go! I may do two updates tonight since the special character first update is super quick. Letter Number: 123456789 Top Artist: The 1975 Well obviously I don’t have as much to write for these guys this year since they just had two singles, but Frail State of Mind is my favorite of them. Can’t give too much explanation as to why I really like it, but it does remind me of some sort of amalgamation of tracks from “A Brief Inquiry”, maybe mostly like TOOTIME… and I Like America minus the autotune. People is good and a nice change of pace for them, albeit a bit too out there for me to listen to a lot. Runner-Up: N/A Additional Musicians Under this Letter: *bolded artists/songs are my recommendations* N/A
TheWayWeWere Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Charli's cover of their 'TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME' is iconic
Sbbmsve Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Frail State of Mind sounds too much like their last album but can't complain it's good. Their Greta collab was a serve as well.
K$Ellie Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 I haven't been keeping up with them this year but the last album slaps if you delete like 3 of the songs I think I heard People once and it was a mess
theblackestday Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 as you said, like the best minded people we either heavily agree or heavily disagree, this is a case of the latter
potent Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 I kinda stopped checking for The 1975 I really love some of their past music, but everyone was praising their recent songs like Love It If We Made It and I just couldn't get into it. TOOTIME is a huge bop though.
Ewan Chaos Posted December 6, 2019 Author Posted December 6, 2019 (edited) Alright, I'm gonna get going on the first actual letter with A, reply to y'all, and then check your Best Ofs out! Letter: A Top Artist: Ariana Grande Congratulations to Ariana Grande for being the top “A” artist for two years running! Even though I like Sweetener more than Thank U, Next, I still think that TU,N is a great album. The title track is my favorite single, but I still view it in the 2018 realm so I’ll leave it off this listing. I guess same with Imagine, so to call it out I think the vocals are a SLAY. Bad Idea is my favorite track from the record. The hook is KILLER and the production is true pop excellence. Outros can be a bit overdone these days I feel, and I look forward to it in Bad Idea every time. "Ari-chan!" NASA was my initial favorite from the album, and I still really like it. Very vibey. Bloodline is another bop that I really like, and then from the underrated tracks I’d probably go with In My Head. Am I the only one who thinks that Make Up is a bit overrated? Also... Break Up... is a pretty bad closer imo. I'm also seeing this lady later this month for my last concert of the year! Pretty stoked tbh, I don't usually ever go to these big pop shows so it'll be a blast. Runner-Up: Alex Lahey Lesbian queen of pop-punk! Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself was the first song I heard from her and when the sax solo came in, I was HOOKED and was waiting for the album to come out. DBSHOY is still my top favorite. Outside of that, Isabella is my favorite song of the year about a dildo/vibrator, I love the melody of Unspoken History, I Don’t Get Invited to Parties Anymore is both a very meme-able title and a banger of an opener, and Black RMs is also great. Additional Musicians Under this Letter: *bolded artists/songs are my recommendations* Artist Loves It She's a Cute Girl It's a No From Me Notes (Sandy) Alex G Southern Sky Gretel, Near, Bad Man Kinda overrated? Yeah. Still great tho! Adam Lambert New Eyes Did an album come out of this? Aldous Harding The Barrel Fixture Picture, Designer, Treasure Easily the #3. The Barrel is def a top 20 song of the year. Alex Isley Road to You Water & Air Always a cute girl. Allie X Rings a Bell Didn't care for much of her this year. Aly & AJ Don't Go Changing Star Maps Cute Amber Mark Mixer 2017 & 2018 > Ambjaay Uno My fave rap song of the year? Anderson .Paak Jet Black (feat. Brandy) Come Home (feat. Andre 3000), Reachin 2 Much (feat. Lalah Hathaway), Choden One (feat. Sonyae) Twilight Better than Oxnard, but nothing as good as Cheers imo Andrew Bird Olympians Bloodless, Fallorun, Don the Struggle Good album! Deserved the Grammy nom Angel Du$t Big Ass Love Light Blue, Bang My Drum Take Away the Pain Underrated pop-punk record Angel Olsen Tonight Impasse, Spring, Endgame New Love Cassette You know... I never really listened to her before and this album is great! Angelo De Augustine All to the Wind Somewhere Far Away From Home, Tomb This was one of the first albums I listened to this year! Anna of the North If U Wanna My Love (very Honne), Lonely Life (also very Honne), Thank Me Later Dream Girl, What We Do, Reasons (feat. the dude) Liked this, but it's kinda hit-miss Anna Wise Nerve Count My Blessings Love her sexy jams Ari Lennox Shea Butter Baby (with J. Cole) BMO, New Apartment (relatable), Up Late Good alberm. The Avett Brothers C Sections and Railway Trestles Bad album! Edited December 12, 2019 by Ewan Chaos

TheWayWeWere Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Ariana she really slayed 2nd year in a row Aly & AJ released another great EP, I hope they pulls through and release album next
Sbbmsve Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Omg finally shares my hate of break up Tu,n took awhile to grow on me but when it clicked I saw how cohesive and solid it was. Ghostin is the best song on it obviously. Also can I just say that I’m loving how original your concept is!
BlackoutZone Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 I low key hate tun Did nothing to me compared to Sweetener which I consider her magnum opus so far. If it was for me Aly & AJ would take the spot so glad to see mentioning them
K$Ellie Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 tu,n was a serve, such a step up from Sweetener bad idea is one of my faves for sure, such a bop I wouldn't call make up overrated cause I see people dragging it a lot but yeah it's quite **** buwyg,ib is quite generic tbh I like Allie but her new songs aren't doing it for me Angel Olsen I never listened to her before but this album slays a biT the Tonight stanning Endgame and Impasse are some of my faves and I don't use NLC either I don't see AOA or Apink tho
clue Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 Frail State of Mind is SO beautiful. Perhaps their best song next to Somebody Else
bestfiction Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 ooop, artists in alphabetical order is cute Ariana is definitely at her peak with tuna I'm kinda 50/50 on The 1975, I felt their last year LP was overrated and didn't check out new songs so x
World Eater Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 always loved that you were doing this in alphabetical order nn, anyway, loved that The 1975 track and Ariana deserved, also love to see some love for Aldous Alex Lahey is a talentless hag btw
