MLD's Best of the Decade

Hi everyone. MLD here. This will be my other countdown of the year in addition to my best of 2019 list. This was the first full decade of my life where I was 100% alert for each and every year of it, as well as the first full decade with Last FM to track my plays. I was 16 in 2010, and I'm ending the decade at 25 years old. As an ATRLER on here the entire decade, I've seen both good and bad times on here and I've been a mess, especially in the earlier half when I was younger. In these last few years I have tamed a lot personality wise, to the point where people only remember for my meltdowns and now forgot that I existed (it isn't hate, it's just indifference). What hasn't tamed down is my love for music. And this decade was full of it.

This special will feature the following.

Top 100 Best Songs of the Decade + Bubbling Under 25

Top 20 Best Albums of the Decade

Top 20 Best Music Videos of the Decade

Top 20 Worst Songs of the Decade

Top 20 TV Shows

Top 20 Movies

Top 10 Youtubers

+ more

I look forward to doing this concurrently with my best of 2019 lists. Very excited :duca:

Top 20 Worst Songs of the Decade

So here's the thing, when a whole decade passes, you tend to forget ****ty songs that you hated when they were in your face constantly at the height of their success. Some songs that you used to hate end up growing on you later on in life. But then there are songs that just remain some type of recurrent relevance so you never end up forgetting how bad they are and they end up making this list. So here we go. I also have a list of Dishonorable mentions for this one.

20. One Direction - Live While We're Young

This was painfully generic when they first released it, basically a One Thing 2.0, but worse. And it also aged like milk on top of it. Thankfully 1D's music got better with each record, outside of the singles.

19. Justin Bieber f. Ludacris - Baby

Bieber was insufferable before his voice dropped. This song was the epitome of it. Only reason it isn't higher is because the instrumental works well with other songs and Ludacris is the only saving grace here vocally.

18. Magic! - Rude

Probably one of the most annoying singles that hit #1 in 2014 (and it wasn't the only one to make this list). Just a stupid dude that cares way too much about the father in-law's approval.

17. Train - Drive By

Mainstream hits from bands like this with super annoying choruses that aged like milk...yeah...this was pure crap.

16. Drake f. Wizkid & Kyla - One Dance

I think this is when Drake peaked in terms of overexposed and annoying songs. 2018 was pretty bad too but honestly, the songs that got overexposed were much better for the most part than this autotuned insufferable mess.

15. Lil Baby & Gunna - Drip Too Hard

If you need autotune for your RAPPING verses, then maybe you shouldn't be in this field. Gunna is also just a piece of **** in general.

14. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee f. Justin Bieber - Despacito (Remix)

This is what I have to blame for all the annoying Spanish/Latin/reggaeton garbage charting on the Hot 100 now. Super annoying vocals that I don't understand and Bieber hopping on it for a hit. Bye bitch.

13. Silento - Watch Me

The song starts with him saying "You already know who it is", which is ironic because this was his first and ONLY hit. And he is not having any originality with this because he talks about OTHER hip hop dances before getting into his. Worst part of my memory for this song is that Rachel Platten's Fight Song got SO much hate on this site back in 2015 when it was smashing, but this song barely got a 10th of the hate. More on Fight Song later, but all I'm gonna say is that Rachel at least has two Hot 100 hits unlike this rapper.

12. Jason DeRulo - Wiggle

Even though I am very much into ass, this is by far the WORST song about ass to come out of this decade. Jason's rubber-ducky voice sounds horrible with the minimalistic production and the chorus is very lazy on top of it. Easily Jason's worst song as well, which says a lot since most of his music is disposable garbage.

11. Train - Hey, Soul Sister

Hot Adult Contemporary piece of garbage coffee radio fodder. One of the most annoying guitars and honestly, the singing is very annoying too. It's one of the reasons I don't want to listen to Hot Adult Contemporary radio.

10. fun f. Janelle Monae - We Are Young

I never liked this song when it came out, and I still don't like it now. Nate Reuss has one of the most annoying voices ever and the song is just boring indie garbage. Janelle is probably the best part of the song.

9. Sam Smith - Stay With Me

He was literally an Adele clone in 2014, but with worse music. And the worst part is that, while he is a decent singer, his voice is WAY too shrill for just a piano and a chorus. Thankfully he got a lot less irritating as time went on, and Dancing With a Stranger remains his best song because he isn't overdoing it.

8. John Legend - All of Me

Another boring and annoying ballad that got extremely overplayed and overexposed by radio. Extremely boring and cheesy.

7. Imagine Dragons - Radioactive

6. Imagine Dragons - Thunder

I'll go ahead and share these together because Imagine Dragons is a band that I really never could get into, but I was always one step ahead of the GP (and ATRL) on hating them. I remember back in 2013 when Radioactive was smashing that I was in the minority of people that hated it. Then flash forward to 2017, Thunder, which is evidently a much worse song, people are finally on board with hating Imagine Dragons. And the thing is, both of these songs are trash. People acted like Radioactive was this epic song when it got big, when the production sounds just like something Dr. Luke would have produced, and the whole song is just toxicity and apocalyptic. Thunder was just annoying radio crap that was even worse than Radioactive. But they both deserve to be here together.

5. Pharrell Williams - Happy

I get that this is for a kids movie, but when this song was as overexposed as it was, the lyrics get dumber and dumber and thus more annoying. The fact that this piece of **** won grammies as well (and robbed Sia of some in the process) is also disgusting in itself.

4. Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks

For obvious reasons, this obnoxiously disgusting song has aged VERY badly. NEVER make a song about a school shooter especially with what has conspired in my country this past decade.

My top 3 will be revealed together as what I have to say is basically similar for all 3.

3. Maroon 5 - One More Night

2. Maroon 5 f. Cardi B - Girls Like You

1. Maroon 5 - Sugar

This band's quality decreased SO much after Moves Like Jagger in 2011. With each release they got more and more generic and unbearable. And then they ended having these three smash hits that ended not fading away and being extremely annoying from end to end. One More Night undeservedly getting 9 weeks at #1 because of streaming rules at the time preventing Gangnam Style from going #1. Then they STEAL Katy Perry's sound and music video for Birthday for their song Sugar and end up smashing with it to the high heavens. And then...they finally get super annoying yet again with the generic and toxic song that is Girls Like You with the super annoying chorus, super annoying vocals, and super sexist lyrics about women being crazy and being the one for him. Like...lord, Cardi is the only reason that wasn't #1.

And here are some dishonorable mentions to end this off:

Ava Max - So Am I

Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho

Bebe Rexha & Florida Georgia Line - Meant To Be

Bella Thorne - Call It Whatever

Bella Thorne - TTYLXOX

Bridgit Mendler - Hurricane

Britney Spears - Perfume

Britney Spears f. Iggy Azalea - Pretty Girls

Charli XCX - Break the Rules

Chris Brown - Look At Me Now

Christina Aguilera - Accelerate

Christina Aguilera f. Demi Lovato - Fall In Line

Clean Bandit f. Demi Lovato - Solo

DaBaby - Suge

Drake - Hotline Bling

Drake - In My Feelings

Gwen Stefani - Baby Don't Lie

Gwen Stefani - Spark the Fire

Jason Derulo - Want To Want Me

Jennifer Lopez - I Luh Ya Papi

Juice Wrld - Lucid Dreams

Justin Bieber - Boyfriend

Kanye West - Famous

Kodak Black - Tunnel Vision

Lady Gaga - G.U.Y.

Madonna f. M.I.A. & Nicki Minaj - Gimme All Your Luvin'

Madonna - Girl Gone Wild

Mariah Carey and the other irrelevant idiots - Triumphant

Meghan Trainor - Dear Future Husband

Meghan Trainor - Me Too

P!nk f. Nate Ruess - Just Give Me a Reason

Pharrell Williams & Camila Cabello - Sangria Wine (Camila was a dumb bitch for wasting the Havana hype on this garbage)

Sam Smith - I'm Not the Only One

Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello - Senorita

XXXTentacion - Changes

The bubbling under of the decade will come next.

The worst songs list has more stuff that I tolerate and/or enjoy so hmm, we have plenty to disagree on. :-* Actually I'd say the dishonorable mentions is probably more accurate overall! Feeling especially attacked by We Are Young, Radioactive, Hurricane, Look at Me Now, Solo, Want to Want Me, G.U.Y & I'm Not the Only One.

#125-101: I actually forgot Anything and that 2015 JoJo EP existed :rip: Lose You to Love Me & Slide Away are interesting 2019 additions to include, the latter doesn't deserve to be on here honestly. Bad at Love, Black Widow, Good for You  The Middle, Don't Hold Your Breath, Last Friday Night, Lover, SITWYM, Closer  :jamming: Sparks, Who Owns My Heart, Dreamsicle, Cool for the Summer, Take It Off, Till the World Ends, Party for One :sats::sats::sats: Yesss at On My Way getting some recognition :katie2:

MLD's Best of the 2010s

100 - 91

100. Meghan Trainor f. Yo Gotti - Better

Starting off the list proper is Meghan Trainor with one of her best singles, and one of the most underrated ones at that. I honestly got sick of her Title singles, and NO is the only upbeat single of hers that I still use. This song however, with its minimalistic production and Meghan's softer vocals, worked very well together and as a result, it has aged very well. I wish it had not come after that obnoxious garbage that was Me Too.

99. Charlie Puth - Attention

It's weird how his entire debut album, aside from Dangerously, aged like milk - plus he basically was the good guy trying to be loving to all these girls. Then he goes through heartbreak and all of a sudden it was like a switch went off and he started making good music like this. The guitar riffs are basically everything and more and Charlie actually got interesting with this song and album. It's a shame he then wasted it this year on crap like Mother and subpar material like I Warned Myself.

98. Lady Gaga - Born This Way

Honestly, this song was pretty important to me in high school. I was 17 when it came out. While I had already been out for two years, this along with Can't Be Tamed kept the self-empowerment in me to just remain myself. That being said, I haven't listened to this song as much since 2011 and I feel like as I get older, it's not a song I look up to as much in order to be sane. I've been out and proud for a decade now and at this point I get more inspiration from overall life empowerment, and I will get to those songs later. That being said, we still have more Gaga to hear from later so stay tuned.

97. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream

I know, I'm gonna get a lot of **** for having this low. But when I was younger I always thought this was overrated. It wasn't until the last couple years that I finally really started listening to it more and appreciating it. Its pretty carefree and now makes me feel a little nostalgic to simpler times of my life. Anyways, Katy will be on this list a few more times. So more from her to come.

96. Havana Brown f. Pitbull - We Run the Night

Havana Brown used to make some great bops. 2012 to 2015 had her best solo material, and this song was pretty much the best way to represent her solo songs. Flashing Lights remains a euphoric 2013 album for me that is underrated because it only got an Australian release. Sadly, Havana is trying too hard to go urban and since she has VERY limited vocals, it sucks. @potent was right on the money when he said in his 2012 best of that she should stick to the dance genre.

95. Avicii f. Rita Ora - Lonely Together

Avicii and Rita Ora songs alone are very forgettable to me. So it shocked how much I got addicted to them together. The song is just amazingly catchy and memorable and it's so sad that Avicii is no longer with us.

94. Ariana Grande f. Zedd - Break Free

It feels weird to put Break Free this low, but at the same time, she's making multiple appearances with Sweetener and thank u, next + Dangerous Woman, so I can deal with this. Break Free aged surprisingly well considering the sound it has. It's catchy and perfect for when you need to just listen to something and not give a ****.

93. Panic! At the Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It!

It feels weird that Panic! is making it onto my Decade-End list, and he still has another entry. But man, this past era was crazily successful for Brendon and it reintroduced Panic! At the Disco to a new generation or renewed interest in people that didn't pay attention to before. I can definitely say I have more songs from past albums now in my iTunes library than I did before the Pray For the Wicked era.

92. Mike Posner - I Took a Pill In Ibiza (SeeB Remix)

2016 was my least scrobbled year in music. If it wasn't for my great memory, I'd probably forget about most 2016 tracks. Looking back it was probably my least favorite of the decade. Mike Posner though has always stuck with me thanks to this song. I'm always going to be in awe thinking about how he managed to get a hit 6 years later after his original peak fell off. This song's remix plus the story is just very moving and grown up. And at the end of the day, it should give everyone hope regarding their faves - the right song can give your fave one last chance in the sun.

91. G-Eazy f. A$AP Rocky & Cardi B - No Limit

The only male rap song to make the Decade-End list, and it's not even because of Cardi. G-Eazy's verse is actually the one I remember the most. It's not necessarily hard to get into this song for me - the beat is infectious, and the verses can easily be fit to be from a gay perspective - my nudes count is 1/3 of his night stand count for example. It's a sexually pumping song along with another, more pop song, that will be coming up later.

90 - 81 next.
