Ivan Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Lose You To Love Me and Lover are masterpieces, and they got right into my heart
MusicLoverDude Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 MLD's Best of 2019 10 - 6 10. Billie Eilish - bad guy I feel like this song snuck up on me this summer. I got pretty addicted to it over time and the song is like the emo-girl version of Can't Be Tamed or Look What You Made Me Do (the f the haters type of crap I like to smack in people's faces when I feel obnoxious). This was the song that got me warmed up to Billie completely so I'm pretty much ready to give other songs a listen - Ocean eyes is pretty good too as is When the party's over. 9. Ariana Grande - 7 Rings Bragging songs like this can be fine if you can have fun with it. Which I did. This song grew on me a lot and well...I'm a broke bitch but I like my men, I like my food, I like Youtube, I like my Netflix, I like my music...I can't blame Ariana for making a pop song that is basically the pop version of Bodak Yellow but catchier. 8. Panic! At the Disco - Hey Look Ma, I Made It High Hopes was #3 on my Best of 2018 list. So this makes it the first time that Panic! has made my year-end Top 10 twice in a row (Three times with I Write Sins Not Tragedies in 2006). This song is just as catchy, although not as anthemic. It was still the right single choice though. 7. Miley Cyrus - Slide Away Miley making the Top 10 again for the first time since 2013. And not surprisingly, this has been her best single release since that period. This song's production is a lot like Without Me by Halsey (a song that has now surpassed 700 plays according to my Last FM, and still has incredible replay value over a year later). This song seems like a full circle moment as well, because in 2013 she sung about partying and being upset about breaking up with Liam. In this song she sings about leaving the partying behind AND she is ok with Liam this time. It truly feels like things with them are finally over and this song is the sense of closure. 6. Halsey - Nightmare I'm so mad this isn't on the final Manic tracklist. We haven't had a good pop rock song like this since the 2000s and the RAGE Halsey brought here is incredible and she delivered big time with it. That's all I can really say but the song is perfect to get my anger out with. Make your Top 5 predictions people
potent Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Bad Guy Nightmare is okay, the best song Halsey released this year definitely.
Jorge Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 4/5 Bad Guy Slide Away and Nightmare 7 Rings Excellent Single

MusicLoverDude Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 MLD's Best of 2019 5 - 1 5. Katy Perry - Never Really Over Katy really should have just released an album this year and kept the momentum of this song going instead of killing it all with Small Talk. This song starts off a little slow but as soon as that first chorus hits it just continues building up. The way each chorus made the song better and better also made it WAY more memorable for me and if there was any song that could have saved this era, it was this one. Hell, this should have been released earlier in 2019 so that Harleys In Hawaii could have had a shot at being a summer hit and THEN go with Small Talk. 4. Dami Im - Crying Underwater For those that don't know who Dami Im is, she was the 2013 winner of X Factor Australia and was the runner-up in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. She actually was my year-end #1 with Sound of Silence for that year - which arguably was one of the weakest in music so her slaying along with Taylor and Ariana was pretty much not surprising. This year however, there was A LOT more song releases that Dami managed to eclipse. So why is she charting this high? Well, I relate to this song a lot. The song is about depression and mental health, and feeling like your cries for help aren't being heard and there is no one to go to. This is something I dealth with a lot in the last couple years. And believe me, this isn't going to be the first song in the Top 5 that deals with this topic, so I want to save more of my story for the other entry. The song is aided by just a piano, synths and minimal production and Dami's voice carries it completely with a lot of emotion. Dami is also independent now from the label she signed onto after winning X Factor, which is a smart choice in terms of artistic freedom, because Sony Music Australia is notorious for having their artists do cover albums. My other X Factor Australia fave Samantha Jade as well as Dami had to do them. And since Crying Underwater is by far one of her best songs, she made the right choice leaving them. 3. Gryffin & Carly Rae Jepsen - OMG Honestly, I was not expecting Carly's last entry on the list to be the Gryffin collab when I first heard it. But honestly, this song is just very addictive the more you hear it, and the song's build-up to the final chorus plus Carly's adlibs after the second and third verse just becoming more engaging really made the song what it was - Tie Me Down had a more interesting instrumental, but Carly's presence on this song is completely there compared to Elley Duhe being more subdued. So yeah, by far one of the best bops of the year and a major ray of sunshine for me. 2. Taylor Swift - The Archer Alright, here's the entry on the list that by far deserves its spot, but at the same time, a very personal one for me. This song is about Taylor blaming herself and a lot of self-reflect on her relationships with people over the years, and how she has felt both targetted, but also that she has caused relationships to faulter herself. Taking responsibility for your actions is hard, and here, it seems she is doing just that. For me, it's something that over the last few years I feel has not been my best suit. I'm almost 26, and I feel like all the change that has occurred within the past couple years has really morphed me into a moody, bitchy person with a lot of depressing thoughts, and even at times suicidal thoughts. I actually expressed this last year with my Top 2 when discussing Happier and Head Above Water. Thankfully, suicidal thoughts this year pretty much went away because I moved a few times. But, moving a lot this year, plus losing my job the year before and feeling like I'm not good enough because of my autism where I used to live (after not getting several jobs I applied to prior to moving), pretty much made me want to get away from the outside world - in Washington, I wasn't able to really go anywhere for 5 months, so my Discord friends and trivia and Youtube was basically my safe spot. Same right now back in California, plus all the motel 6's I was in this year on the road up and down the West Coast. I feel like I've not been able to really settle in anywhere the past year and just focus on myself and so I just feel like I constantly need to be sane so I've just become closed off and more bitchy and it's really affected the relationship with my Mom more and I've also stopped speaking to my Aunt that we lived with in Washington. Whenever I listen to The Archer, I feel like I actually have someone who understands how I'm feeling and that we don't mean to destroy relationships and we know we need to work on ourselves, but we don't like admitting that we have issues. At the end of the song, she says she is ready for combat, just like at the beginning of the song, except this time it feels like she is ready to face herself. My birthday is in 3 days, I'm hoping I can face myself as well and turn 2020 around. 1. Aly & AJ - Don't Go Changing We have finally arrived at our #1 song. And this is Aly & AJ's first time topping, previously hitting #2 on my 2006 Year-End list with Rush, only blocked by SexyBack. Aly & AJ were rays of sunshine when I was 12 and the amount of time between their 2007 album and their EPs was a long wait, and a lot happened during that time. Their thoughts on the music industry definitely wasn't pleasant and I totally understand why they left for awhile. Unfortunately, I wasn't very receptive to their first EP in 2017 - I felt like the songs were just missing a spark that was waiting to be ignited because the production was there but the vocals and the lyrics weren't. But, as with a lot of things, releasing an EP again in 2019 gave me another chance to listen to them. And, they FINALLY ignited that spark with the vocals and the lyrics and the overall organization of this particular song. We actually got decent lyrics, we actually got GREAT harmony on the chorus, we got a GOOD chorus on top of that, and we got a VERY climactic bridge that drove us right into that final chorus with a new surge of energy that just took the song home and Aly & AJ truly knocked it out of the park with this song. All of the energy that I got from Rush and Chemicals React all those years ago was brought back again here and I am SO happy that Aly & AJ finally delivered for me. This was my most played song of 2019 (the ONLY song to have over 500 plays this year) AND my most played song by them in history. AND it is the best song of 2019 for me, HANDS DOWN! I will update this with other lists, but now that this list is complete, I will now focus more on the decade lists - which will actually be easier to do. Anyways, looking forward to going to the other section next.
