K$Ellie Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 My Type a banger Why Don't We (Austin not the ****ty group x) was surprisingly good Really Don't Like You and Gimme are great
BlackoutZone Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Loving some of these, but damn Really Don't Like U deserved to be way higher! As you've said it was unexpected, but it works FLAWLESSLY!
Inner Insanity Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Unrelated but P!nk ended being my most listened to artist this year with Walk Me Home being my most played. Something about that chorus just draws me in every single time and I feel like I need to hear it again and again. It's kinda basic but that melody is so strong. Anyway, not a fan of most of these but then again I've probably only heard most of them once or twice.
ARTPØP Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Walk Me Home, The Bones, Southbound, Don't Call Me Angel, Girl, Torn, MIA, F**** I'm Lonely, In My Head, Don't Feel Like Crying, My Type, Who Do You Love, Really Don't Like U, Don't Call Me Up Serving great taste
MusicLoverDude Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 MLD's Best of 2019: 90 - 71 (part one) 90. Avril Lavigne - Tell Me It's Over Avril doing the blues...I mean, she sounds nice on it but this is one of my least favorites on Head Above Water. I dropped it pretty quickly after it retired from my countdown. 89. Ariana Grande & Social House - boyfriend This was pretty much destined to be the first Ariana track out. It's harmless and generic, except none of us wanted Social House on it. 88. Cheat Codes f. Kim Petras - Feeling of Falling Cheat Codes being involved with pop girls isn't new but ever since No Promises they've delivered each time, continuing with Only You. Feeling of Falling was nice for Winter, but it still felt more empty than No Promises and Only You. Kind of a shame. 87. Rita Ora - New Look This song is catchy, but its lyrics bother me a lot. Like, Rita is so clingy and paranoid that she is bound to end up losing her man to a "new look" anyway. Not exactly the behavior of a phoenix hun. But anyways, it's here because it is catchy. 86. Ashley Tisdale - Love Me & Let Me Go Ashley Tisdale finally released new music again after 10 years (8 if you count Gonna Shine from that Sharpay movie). However, I was pretty underwhelmed by the songs, this included. I get her mental health struggle, but this song got boring after awhile. It only had longetivity on my countdown (Zero Charts) because it dropped off and re-entered my daily countdown multiple times. That being said, one of the tracks from Symptoms will be mentioned later in another list. 85. Jake Miller - NIKES Jake Miller was gonna be on this list no matter what. This song is cute and nothing more. 84. Camila Cabello - Liar It took me a long time to get into this. I'm tired of Epic trying to make Camila get another Havana rehash. It's turning into Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne all over again with all the annoying rehashes, except Avril could actually pull them off (What the Hell, Rock N Roll). Liar is catchy enough once you get into it. 83. Madison Beer - Dear Society Madison was supposed to be releasing this year...but then she signed to Epic. She served visuals with the video but wasted them on one of her worst songs. The song is decent enough to listen to on occasion, but Madison has done better and lyrically it goes from being about a guy to being about society, so it doesn't stay on topic a lot. Madison thankfully still has another entry on the list. 82. Lana Del Rey - Doin' Time This also took me awhile to get into. It is breezy listening for when you are in the mood and I think it is one of Lana's more accessible singles. 81. Ariana Grande - break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored Another Ariana entry already out. One of the worst songs on thank u, next tbh. That says a lot though since most of the album tracks are a 10/10. This song is catchy and listenable, that's all Max Martin. But this song lacks replay value so that's why it is low.
MusicLoverDude Posted December 14, 2019 Author Posted December 14, 2019 MLD's Best of 2019: 90 - 71 (part two) 80. Illenium & Jon Bellion - Good Things Fall Apart I think part of the reason I have this song lower is because I got really sick of Jon Bellion for the most unexpected reason. So, I mentioned when talking about BANKS that I discovered that song through Joyride. Well, Joyride's producers kept shoving Jon Bellion (and Pia Mia) and some random artist called Fyfe down our throats for pop games. It was really annoying. And frankly, Jon Bellion sounds better on EDM tracks than his own tracks. This is no different. But yeah, Joyride is dead now so maybe Jon Bellion will be back in cyber-irrelevance. 79. Stephen Puth - Look Away Charlie Puth's brother is trying to be like his older bro in a way. The lyrics could easily be something Charlie could come up with. Only difference is that this song has more of an acoustic pop rock feel to it. I liked this song but I got tired of it quickly. Still better than the mess Charlie released this year. 78. Kesha f. Big Freedia - Raising Hell All of us wanted pop Kesha back. But what she is serving is 99 cents store type of pop. This song is too short so everything just seems very half-assed. Still catchy, but she has made better. 77. Normani - Motivation This song has a great music video, but this song is also a bit of a grower. I definitely burned out on this one outside of year-end megamixes for the time being. Still a banger though. 76. Avril Lavigne - I Fell In Love With the Devil Shockingly enough, this is Avril's last appearance on this countdown. Serves her right since she left all the best songs besides the title track as just album tracks. Anyways, this song is ok, and the video is decent. But could've been better. 75. Ed Sheeran f. Camila Cabello & Cardi B - South of the Border I got into this one a bit late. I pretty much ignored Ed's collab album all year. This song isn't too bad. It's pretty catchy and Camila isn't too bad on her part. Cardi B is a weird fifth wheel though. Anyways, Southern California is sunny year round so the summery feels isn't a huge deal. 74. Panic! At the Disco - Into the Unknown Frozen II's pop radio version of their main song. Brendon does a good job with it. Nuff said. 73. NOTD f. HRVY - I Miss Myself I got into NOTD's single releases this year a bit late, but their songs were of good enough quality to make the list. This is the first of three you will see. Decent and catchy. 72. Kesha - My Own Dance And Kesha is out now too. Again, too short. Catchy enough and a little bit anthemic but not enough to really SLAY. 71. Sam Smith & Normani - Dancing With a Stranger This song was very nice to listen to...in the winter. This song overstayed its welcome by spring tbh. The production is meant for colder months, and I'm from California...so the burnout rate for this was pretty high for me. The fact that it stayed on the Hot 100 for as long as it did is crazy tbh. I mean, still a decent song...and the "Look what you made me do" lyric could totally be meshed with Taylor on any megamix or mashup and sound like a slay, but still. Good riddance to this on the Hot 100.
Brandon Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 ???? ?? ??'? ????,????' ????,???? & ??????? ????
gagacasanova Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Boyfriend, the only Ariana song she released this year that stuck for me. i like 7 rings and break up with your girlfriend, but they didn't exactly do anything for me. Liar, Raising Hell Love Me and Let Me Go I was so ready for Ms. Ashley to serve, but, the album was very underwhelming.
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 14, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2019 Doin' Time, Raising Hell, I Fell In Love With The Devil
ATRL Moderator kelly-clarkson Posted December 14, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 14, 2019 So many great songs on your list! I Fell In Love With the Devil, Doin' Time, Liar, Love Me & Let Me Go, Tell Me It's Over
Remmy Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Tell Me It's Over, buwygib, IFILWTD, My Own Dance boyfriend, LM&LMG, Doin' Time, Into the Unknown Motivation + Raising Hell "All of us wanted pop Kesha back." I mean, Rainbow still had a good amount of pop. Also SPEAK FOR YOURSELF. Good Things Fall Apart But that writeup makes me believe you think you know more about Jon than you actually do
JGibson Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Tell Me It's Over + Love Me and Let Me Go + Doin' Time + I Fell In Love With The Devil + South Of The Border + Good Things Fall Apart
ARTPØP Posted December 14, 2019 Posted December 14, 2019 Raising Hell, Motivation, Doin' Time, My Own Dance I find myself bopping to Liar from time to time too hehehe
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 15, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2019 Kesha was kinda disappointing this year yeah, but nothing like, embarrassingly bad. Underwhelming though.
TheWayWeWere Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Tell Me It's Over is actually nice New Look she should've push this Doin Time is a bit low Kesha's songs this year were messy tbh MOD is ok
potent Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 TMIO, GTFA, DWAS too low Doin Time is one of my least favorite Lana songs, I don't get why ATRL loves it so much. South of the Border is also one of Ed's worst, but at least he's making an appearance Raising Hell is a bop despite not being up to her standard, I actually placed it higher than you
KasioKas Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 BUWYG, Motivation I thought Dear Society was just.. okay
Mr. Loco Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I don't get how Dancing with a stranger is a winter song It bored me a little quick too, but still it deserved to be a littler higher Avril's devil bop
MusicLoverDude Posted December 20, 2019 Author Posted December 20, 2019 MLD's Best of 2019 70 - 61 70. Megan Thee Stallion f. DaBaby - Cash **** I honestly was not expecting to bop to this as much as I briefly did. The beat goes off and so does Megan. DaBaby is also relatively tolerable on this song, probably because he only has a small amount of time to be obnoxious compared to his own songs. The beat alone helped this stand out to me and it worked well with Megan's flow. So #70 is pretty respectable for it. 69. SHAED - Trampoline I got into this pretty late. The song title is one of my favorite things I did as a kid - I jumped on a personal trampoline which really helped me with my energy and rage at times. It's part of the reason my legs are in decent shape despite being overweight these days. Anyways, back to the song. It's not really that much different from other dreamy indie pop that got a mainstream crossover. Hence why I slept on it for so long. It's cute, and when I'm in the right mood, I can listen to it. But it isn't something I would want on when I have a headache or about to have one I guess. 68. Katy Perry - Small Talk I honestly wasn't sure which of Katy's songs would leave first between this and Harleys In Hawaii. Small Talk was a fast burnout while Harleys In Hawaii was a slow grower. Ultimately, Small Talk is leaving first. The song is cute, but it destroyed the hype that Never Really Over gave her and Charlie Puth failed her badly on this track. It got a cute video though and Katy sounds decent on it live. The song isn't bad but it was better off being an album track. 67. BLACKPINK - Kill This Love BLACKPINK for the very first time has made my year-end list with a solo entry, after previously appearing with Dua Lipa last year on Kiss And Make Up. That song was a perfect way to get them acquainted with me. This song is pretty simply a lot of fierce instrumentation and the girls sounding badass for 2 and a half minutes. It's not necessarily quotable but it's definitely harmless fun and it was at least a gateway to explore other songs by them. I may not understand the language, but Korean is much better to listen to than Spanish and K-Pop >>>>>>>>>>>>> Reggaeton mess. 66. Cascada - Like the Way I Do If you haven't followed my past year-end lists, then I'll let you know now that I'm probably the biggest Cascada stan that is still active on the site. Their music is almost always harmless euphoric dance songs that allow me to just unwind or de-stress myself. This song is no exception. It's NOT amazing, I'll tell you that. But it sounds like what you would expect Cascada to sound like if they did house music. Natalie Horler's voice is very underrated tbh because she is so inviting and comforting on each song thanks to her tone and the production works magic with her. So while this song is nowhere near the best of the best from them, it still did something right to be on here. The last two songs have been midtempo dance though so I'm hoping we get another Run or something more uptempo next year. I honestly don't mind these yearly releases because they are always welcoming. 65. Alan Walker f. Sabrina Carpenter & Farruko - On My Way Spanish verses are going to annoy me 90% of the time depending on the vocalist. It's why I never could get into Taki Taki by DJ Snake because Ozuna is extremely annoying on it, but I could listen to J Balvin on Familiar by Liam Payne because he was tolerable. Anyways, Farruko for the longest time pretty much kept me from fully enjoying this song. It wasn't until I found a mashup of this with Katy Perry's Wide Awake that I gave this a second chance. Sabrina owns this song, Farruko is in second wheel but his flow isn't annoying as opposed to what I originally thought. The production could have been a bit more anthemic though because this song feels very coming of age or very adventurous and the production is a bit more mellow as opposed to being more uptempo. But regardless, not as bad as I originally thought. 64. Kaskade f. Meghan Trainor - With You I was kind of intrigued to hear that Meghan was collaborating with Kaskade. Kaskade reminds me of Cascada at times production wise. Unfortunately, this song didn't really feel like Kaskade production. It felt like anyone could have produced this. Meghan on the other hand owned the song and is the reason I like it. Too bad it wasn't a hit for her. 63. Katy Perry - Harleys In Hawaii So as you guys can see, Small Talk and Harleys In Hawaii weren't gonna be far apart in my rankings so they were pretty interchangeable. I honestly think the song is a bit overrated. The verses and the chorus are very catchy and memorable the more you listen to it, but I feel like maybe the instrumentation could have been better. It has a similar problem to Ava Max's Sweet But Psycho, except that Katy Perry can carry a song thanks to her charisma. So yeah, I can see why people love it on here but I don't like it as much as the others. 62. Lauv & Troye Sivan - I'm So Tired Sometimes pop songs that are released earlier in the calendar will get lost in the shuffle if they can't stack up to songs by later releases. I'm So Tired fits the bill here. I really liked it when it first came out, got bored of it quickly, and it got pushed out by much more interesting songs. I do find it weird though that Lauv and Troye collaborated. Lauv has worked with Anne-Marie and LANY as well and I wonder why. Well anyways, this was Lauv's best single of the past year so this is his last appearance. 61. The Chainsmokers & ILLENIUM f. Lennon Stella - Takeaway I feel like I was expecting more out of these three since I really liked Call You Mine, Polaroid and Feel Good. This song is pretty nice to listen to but it doesn't really go anywhere. It feels like another chance for TCS to get a Closer rehash, except ILLENIUM's addition makes it seem like a The Middle attempt. The breakdown is more interesting than the verses honestly and when the song retired from my countdown, I was pretty relieved honestly, lol. Anyways, all three of these guys have served better songs but the song isn't bad in general.
JGibson Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 Small Talk + Harleys In Hawaii + Trampoline
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 20, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 20, 2019 The two Katy songs
alexanderao Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Some nice picks here. I like all of DWAS, break up, boyfriend, Trampoline, i’m so tired, Motivation to varying degrees!
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 Blackpink is in your best songs list As BP stan, KTL was really underwhelming cause they just copy their superior song "Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du". But there are some moments that i like especially the music video. But in the end, the song still a bop. I really like all your list, maybe we have a the same taster after all
