Eeveelution Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Cinnamon Girl is NOT the best album cut on NFR but it is really really good so. Runner is Tennis' best song that I've heard. On a Roll and Do My Thing
TheWayWeWere Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 absolutely forgout about Little Boots releasing this year Jump tho >>> On a Roll hey I'm a hoe I love Kylie, but NYC studio version was a bit horrible
Mark Rih Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 N-A-S-A also Cinnamon Girl is clearly an highlight on NFR so happy to see it
Pink Matter Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Cinnamon Girl and NASA are top 3/5 on their respective albums and are highlights for sure but the best songs on their albums? I think NOT
Remmy Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Cinnamon Girl N-A-S-A ayyy One of my tu,n favorites from day 1 I enjoy Meghan, Miley & Poppy overall but those particular songs actually didn't do it for me. So far I'd say Poppy's upcoming album is better than that Choke EP.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 24, 2019 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 24, 2019 100. YMA - "Shake It" Genre: Indie Rock Thoughts: By far the standout from this album, has a really nice riff and a super repetitive monotone delivery that i luv. 99. Liz - "Intuition" Genre: Dance-Pop Thoughts: This is apparently a 1994 Kylie Minogue leftover, yet it sounds exactly like Mandy Moore's Candy. It's on my list because it sounds exactly like Mandy Moore's Candy. 98. Perfume Genius - "Eye on the Wall" Genre: Art Pop Thoughts: This is a 9 min psychedelic artsy fartsy track that's about as "dance" as Perfume Genius will probably ever get. With long songs, you either succeed or fail hugely so I'm glad to say this was a success. 97. Freddie Gibbs - "Flat Tummy Tea" Genre: Hip-Hop Thoughts: I like this no frills no nonsense rap track. The "flat tummy tea" theme makes you think it would be more sonically in tune with the trends of 2019 but your expectations are reverted by a classic 90s ish flow and 00s style Madlib production. 96. Little Simz - "Venom" Genre: UK Hip-Hop Thoughts: I think this song has the most memorable hook on the album the string samples are *chef's kiss*. Really appreciate her ability to rap really really quickly while making it sound effortless. 95. Sassy 009 - "Maybe in the Summer" Genre: Art Pop, Deconstructed Club Thoughts: Art Pop slash Deconstructed Club outfit Sassy 009 finally find their sound and what works for them. Hard hitting beat, mumbly spoken lyrics, you know I eat that **** up. 94. Madonna - "Dark Ballet" Genre: Art Pop Thoughts: I really love it when Madonna is just try-hard and faux edgy and nothing does it like this song that starts out with an overdramatic faux ballad that randomly samples tchaikovsky and then has her whispering something something we live in a society. MORE PLEASE. 93. Slayyyter - "Cha-Ching" Genre: Dance-Pop Thoughts: Yes, this song serves the most personality and is pretty much equal parts In the Zone era Britney, L.A.M.B. era Gwen Stefani, the best of both worlds 92. La Roux - "Guillible Fool" Genre: Sophisti-Pop Thoughts: IWOL was a nice re-introduction but it sounded too familiar to her previous album. This is really where it. is. AT! it's a longer song, and the slow intro gives the song more emotional resonance when the beat picks up. 91. Sulli - "Dorothy" Genre: K-pop, DnB Thoughts: RIP SULLI! This song is gorgeous and should have been the lead single. It's an unconventional K-pop ballad that focuses on a triplet "dorhothy" hook in verses and the chorus. And then there's the second half of the song 90. City Girls - "Act Up" Genre: Hip-Hop Thoughts: JT IS SO GOOD ON THIS TRACK. Yung Miami isn't good, but she's also entertainingly bad, so that adds to the replay value of this song. 89. Pixx - "Mary Magdelane" Genre: New Wave, Thoughts: Really hooky New Wave music that's fun to sing along to, this is a huge standout in a disappointing sophomore slump. I also hear some 90s grunge type influences too? I dunno I feel like this is the sorta song the Waitresses would do. 88. Charlotte Adigery - "High Lights" Genre: Art-Pop, Synth-pop Thoughts: I love the chanting of "High. lights" in the chorus that's actually just a drop that's also sorta minimal, this is the most inventive and engaging song on her EP. I look forward to hear more from her! 87. MUNA - "Number One Fan" Genre: Synth-pop Thoughts: Honestly, this sounds like something taken right from Tegan and Sara love you to death album, but luckily MUNA bring more personality that belongs to them. It's about stan culture, which I find an interesting topic to handle but I don't really think it says anything new but tha'ts okay, it's cool to see that stuff come full circle. 86. Normani - "Motivation" Genre: R&B Thoughts: The video makes you think of Beyonce, but I get Kelly from the song, not that it's a bad thing, it's soaked in nostalgia in the good way. 85. Chromatics - "On the Wall" Genre: Dream-pop Thoughts: Apparently this is a cover, of who? I haven't bothered to find out. 84. Taylor Swift - "Paper Rings" Genre: Pop Thoughts: Taylor Swift's first take on 60s girl groups also "samples" Hillary Duff's Breathe in Breathe Out. How can you not love that based on the description? 83. Molina - "Venus" Genre: Synth-Pop, Ethereal Wave Thoughts: If you couldn't get enough of Tamaryn this year like me, this was dessert. It's a song for people who like cocteau twins, strawberry switchblade, etc. 82. Lizzo - "Tempo" Genre: Hip-Hop Thoughts: The standout from Lizzo's album features a verse from Missy Elliott that rhymes "floor" "purr" with "brr" with "curves" with "good" all while rolling her r's and that's all you need to know. 81. Hyuna - "Flower Shower" Genre: K-pop, Art Pop Thoughts: This song MAKES ME FEEL THINGS. It got dragged by her fans. They don't understand that it's a little more experimental in nature - it sounds both busy and unfinished which is a hard thing to do.
potent Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Tempo and Number One Fan both cute, although I wasn't obsessed with either so they're well placed Dark Ballet
Lazuli Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 cinammon girl and nasa dark ballet i always end up laughing listening to it hmm gullible fool is cute but iwol outsold paper rings and number one fan
jose168 Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 UMM ITS YIUNG MIAMI ANF I CAME TO RUN MY SACK UP is lyric of the decade Dark Ballet is def a standout on Madame Xanax
Eeveelution Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 The story behind Intuition is so random, definitely the best song her album anyway. Dorothy is beautiful Still need to listen to Gullible Fool. Motivation and Tempo are both great bops. On the Wall is a cover of Jesus & Mary Chain, but not from the album everyone remembers? It's definitely the right choice for them anyway.
World Eater Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 the serves already Eye on the Wall (yup), Dark Ballet (yup), Cha-Ching (yup), Act Up (yup), Motivation (yup), On the Wall (yup), Tempo (yup)
TheWayWeWere Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Dark Ballet first half slays so hard than that spoken part comes in GF is a bit of grower, I need to admit
ATRL Moderator kelly-clarkson Posted December 24, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 24, 2019 Paper Rings is cute Nice to see MUNA on your list!! I didn't play Motivation so much but the video it's amazing
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 24, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 24, 2019 Dark Ballet is amazing. MORE PLEASE! Number One Fan + Tempo
Remmy Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Tempo is a CILY highlight indeed Paper Rings is so fun, don't understand how some people have it in their Lover bottom 3s or anywhere near. Number One Fan + Motivation I hated 5H but Normani did what she had to do.
K$Ellie Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 aw Neon is such a cute song, I always forget it exists Fun is a bit annoying and disappointing after the flawless Love Bomb and DKDK No, Superhuman, Senorita and Picky Picky missing the top 100 On a Roll and NASA big bops Cha-Ching is gross tbh x Flower Shower grew on me so much Dark Ballet and Dorothy experiemental masterpieces Number One Fan
Pink Matter Posted December 26, 2019 Posted December 26, 2019 I've never really gotten on board the Tempo train like everyone else Motivation's a cute bop. Not something I see myself going back to. Hopefully she can come up with something better. Not really familiar with anything else but I'm gonna check out the PG jingle!
kiiwii Posted December 27, 2019 Posted December 27, 2019 number one fan & motivation paper rings was one of the songs i didn't like all that much from lover
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 27, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted December 27, 2019 venom, cha ching, gullible fool, dorothy rip queen, Act Up, Number One Fan, Motivation, Tempo. great choices in general so far
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 27, 2019 Author ATRL Moderator Posted December 27, 2019 80. Ms Nina - "Te Doy" Genre: Reggaeton, Neoperreo Thoughts: Her best song so far, though she's had a string of really good singles so it was hard for me to choose. 79. Agnes - "I Trance" Genre: Dance-Pop Thoughts: The one hit wonder "release me" singer gave us a few bops this year but this ethereal otherworldy trancey dance song was her best. It's a super fresh take while she still gives us what we want - dancefloor anthems! 78. Eyedi - "& New" Genre: K-Pop, Synth-Pop Thoughts: I LOVE it when K-pop artists combine synthpop in their sound and I like that she gave us a more DIY sounding song (for kpop standards) and I think it's unique among the Kpop scene. 77. MYSS KETA - "Main Bitch" Genre: Hip-Hop Thoughts: The most memorable song on the album because of its simple and effective hook that you hum in your head. 76. Caroline Polacheck - "Hit me where it Hurts" Genre: Pop, Indie Pop Thoughts: Oh yeah, we love a deadpan listing of random things on verses. The chorus has this instant-classic feeling to it like it could have been written by an indie twee singer from the 00s but it ended up in 2019 somehow. 75. Lou Rebecca - "Break it Apart" Genre: Synth-Pop Thoughts: I love this girl! She gave us a really underrated EP last year and this year she gave us this synthy bop it's also very underrated and underlooked. 74. Sleater-Kinney - "The Center Won't Hold" Genre: Indie rock Thoughts: This is the most energy-packed song on their new album, and you have to wait for the explosive middle-section of the song. Why couldn't all of the songs on the album be like this? 73. Weyes Blood - "Andromeda" Genre: Art Pop, Singer-Songwriter Thoughts: This is a really gorgeous song. Her vocals give me sad-girl 70s folk and I think it's the best song on her album. 72. Sky Ferreira - "Downhill Lullabye" Genre: Art Pop, Neoclassical Thoughts: SKY IS BACK! JK! Just this one song. She's a pathological liar and will constantly disappoint us with the lack of releases, but when she does give us music it's actually good. 71. Unperfect - "Looking for a Hug" Genre: Dance-Pop Thoughts: Xenomania have not been as prominent at the end of the decade as they were in the 00s. This has that classic "ten songs in one" Xenomania approach that is like crack to me. It's a little subdued but hey a new sound for a new era. 70. Jenny Hval - "High Alice" Genre: Art Pop, Trance Thoughts: Jenny Hval's signature sound meets a more accessible tone with her new album and this was the highlight and most accessible song from her album. 69. Charli XCX - "2099" Genre: Dance-Pop, Art Pop Thoughts: This song is basically one gigantic long chorus to the end of an extremely exhilarating album. 68. Lana Del Rey - "Doin Time" Genre: Indie Rock, Surf Rock Thoughts: I never liked Sublime but I always liked this song, but now I don't have to listen to them cause Lana put out a better version. 67. Megan Thee Stallion - "Hood Rat ****" Genre: Southern Hip-Hop Thoughts: My fave from her album, it had fun lines and a good concept. 66. Kelsey Lu - "Poor Fake" Genre: Art Pop Thoughts: The "is this real" part of the song is heavenly this is a hymn! 65. Red Velvet - "Zimzalabim" Genre: K-Pop, Art Pop Thoughts: This song is so good omg, you know when there's an instant backlash to a song that it will age well and time will reveal its true beauty and that is what will happen with Zimzalabim. 64. Tyler, the Creator - "What's Good?" Genre: Soul, Hip-Hop Thoughts: I know I always like the uptempo fun songs the most that's why I chose this song from his album. 63. Hatchie - "Obsessed" Genre: Dream Pop Thoughts: This sounds like it was literally taken outside of a 90s romantic movie, equal parts Sixpence and Cocteau Twins 62. Vendredi Sur Mer - "Chewing Gum" Genre: Italio Disco, Dance Pop Thoughts: Anything that references Italio Disco is an automatic win to me. 61. Poppy - "Fill the Crown" Genre: Nu-Metal, Art Pop Thoughts: Poppy is doing what she has to do, and what she has to do is create genre crossovers in the best way possible.
