Top Grossing Female Tours Of All Time (adjusted)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

So i decided to do this. I'm sure a lot of artists are missing from this list, so you will help me to complete it if you wish.

My idea is to have a topic that complements the one already existing.

You just need to give me the total gross adjusted to 2016/2017's numbers and the overall attendance, plus a link for your source.

I will include only tours over 100 million US dollars (after being adjusted) so that's why tours like Loud or ARTRAVE aren't here.

After this list is in better shape and more definite, i will do a much better OP.

I will do 2 lists: One with the highest adjusted grosses as i've been talking about and another one with the biggest adjusted overall grosses BY ARTIST.
This way we'll get a much better look at what tours were actually successful and not just the most expensive ones.

Madonna: Sticky & Sweet Tour (2008/2009)- $455.46 million (3,545,899 attendance in 85 shows)
Cher: Living Proof: The Farewell Tour (2002/2005) - $320.06 million (+ 2.7 million attendance in 325 shows)
Madonna: The MDNA Tour (2012) - $318.38 million (2,212,345 attendance in 88 shows)
Cher: Do You Believe? Tour (1999/2000) - $316.29 million (+ 1 million attendance in 121 shows)

Celine Dion: Taking Chances World Tour (2008/2009) - $312.80 (+ 1.3 million attendance in 132 shows)
Beyoncé: The Formation Tour (2016) - $256 million (2,242,099 attendance in 49 shows)
Taylor Swift: The 1989 Tour (2015) - $254.9 million (2,278,647 attendance in 85 shows)
Lady Gaga: The Monster Ball (2009/2011) - $242.10 million (+ 2.5 million attendance in 203 shows)

* Tour still on the road

For now i included tours from Madonna, Cher, Tina Turner, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Adele...
Many attendance numbers are not yet here. I'll have to investigate it better. If you know them, say so if you wish.

This topic is from all of us and for all of us, so give me more numbers. I'll collect all the data you help me gather here in the OP and in a few days/weeks, i'll do a prettier post.

In the long run if this works i might include tours with weaker grosses as well. One step at a time

EDIT 1: Added Britney Spears (Circus Tour) and Celine's Taking Chances Tour. On The Run is now out.

You should either remove it, if its only for Female tours, or include it as a joint one, this is not accurate and it makes no sense :skull:

Oversensitivy? Hardly. A joint tour, she headlined. Why list it then? It don't make any sense.

No. That's her residency in Vegas. It's not a tour. I will include the others he mentioned though.

About On The Run...i will remove it. No need for all this drama. Jesus.

Well...she started it in 2003, ended in 2007 and did over 700 shows :deadbanana2:

I have no idea how her voice is still so good...really.

Tina Turner: Break Every Rule Tour. $121.5 million, 4 million attendance, and 218 shows. The tickets must've been super cheap

Posted

The difference would be even bigger with ticket price inflation.

Back in the day tickets weren't outrageously priced and you could get them at the box office without having to rush for it. It changed in the Internet age when we have to make time for snatching tickets when they put them on sale. So big names jacked up their ticket prices.

I think the tours should be compared by attendence, cuz it's one of the more accurate things.  And it's more important how many people saw you live, not how much money the tour made.

300 million in '99/2000 was an achievement comparable to 500+ million in our times.

200 million in '96 is comparable hard to get as 500+ million in our times.

Something to be noted: She did 218 shows from March 1987 to March 1988. Exactly one year to make all those shows. Sometimes she did 7 shows in 7 days in a row :ahh:

I'm just shocked, I always thought of Tina being up there with Cher and Madonna when it came to touring

I agree with both of you. The problem is it's really hard to even find correct and exact data from the 80's or even 90's in terms of attendance. That was actually my original idea.

But i also think rulling out ticket prices is not right.

Just an example: Someone might enjoy Madonna more. But if her ticket is 100 dollars and Rihanna is 40 dollars, i'll go see Rih cause i have no money for Madonna. But if their prices were the same, i'd go for Madonna.

Their ticket prices do represent their demand. After all ticket prices are about Demand and Supply.
