Some songs I loved and some songs I absolutely hated, as usual all described with my colorful commentary.

Final track count still being determined.

Countdown begins December 17th.

A bit of a late start, but it's all good.

This song is certainly one of the best on this list, but given that it was technically released on Cremonini's 2017 album Possibili scenari, it would unfair for it to chart any higher on this list. Cremonini has been attempting to walk this line between the artistic world and the pop world, with mixed results. It wasn't until Possibili scenari that he managed to do so under his own name. "Kasmir-Kashmir" is a funky, retro-esque disco track that tells the story of a darker-skinned man struggling with the daily racism he experiences in public. Cremonini's sardonic wit is at stark contrast with the nu-disco influences, and it makes for an ironic pop song far smarter than the songs that are currently dominating the Italian pop charts. And as is often the case with Italian albums, only one single from Possibili scenari was a bonafide hit, with Cremonini seeing lower chart positions for all subsequent extracts.

When I first saw the album cover for Taylor Swift's Reputation, I was expecting for her to step outside of her comfort zone. The black and white glamour shot teased a concept album that would be at odds with the impeccably crafted synth-pop from her previous effort 1989. Unfortunately, we were treated to an under-baked collection of bratty, tawdry electronica tracks that all wade in the shallow end of Swift's creativity pool. "...Ready for It?" in particular is a cringe-fest, with Swift's pseudo-rapping and aloof attitude making my toes curl. By the time we get to the country-esque bridge, Swift has already lost me. "...Ready for It?" is an embarrassing, insincere misstep for a woman capable of so much more.

Welp, ...RFI? is my favorite from reputation :oh: But I can take my stan goggles off and understand the complaints, the sound is definitely not for everyone.

Also I spot Allie X in your signature, she better be high up on the best songs list :gaycat2:

Kylie Minogue's Golden remains one of her more polarizing efforts as the year comes to a close. Minogue's American country muse leaks into her normal European disco pop fare and yields interesting results. Minogue should be commended for picking up the pen again and lending her thoughts to the creation of her art, something she has abstained from since 1997's critically panned Impossible Princess. That newly-found confidence finds the Australian singer delivering some of her most evocative and honest songs in well over a decade. "Golden" is a standout track, on which Minogue sounds refreshed, loving her life. Like her French contemporary Mylène Farmer, Kylie Minogue only seems to get better and better with age, proving that pop life does not end after the age of 50. With songs like "Golden" and "Dancing," Minogue is joining Farmer and Janet Jackson, refusing to run the pop race that Madonna is still arduously trying to win.

The 1975 broke with tradition upon starting promotion for their third studio effort A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships. Those expecting a sleek, progressive sound were certainly shocked upon hearing the dissonant production on "Give Yourself a Try." While this song did not inform the rest of the record, this first single remains one of the band's most under-baked and unsatisfying releases. Its unpleasant sonics are akin to have sand in your underpants in the blistering hot sun. Matt Healy, who normally knows how to switch his vocal style from aloof to passionate at just the right time, is not nearly as evocative as he needs to be in order to pull this song off, and his bandmates do nothing to help the situation. Despite effectively borrowing from their power-pop influences like Tommy Keene and INXS in the past, "Give Yourself a Try" remains an awkward attempt to break their synth-pop mold by abandoning everything that makes them great, just for the sake of it.

Naww some Kyle love - I love this write-up too. She's kinda an underdog, like gays love her but she doesn't get the attention she deserves and honestly never has. She's always been overshadowed.

But she's just so damn lovable!

Also I LOVE "...Ready For It?" - and the way it opened the tour woo lordT. Let me go watch videos.

I gave Give Yourself a Try a try, didn't like it :-* I've heard a handful of their songs but only 1 or 2 have stuck out to me, wish I could join everyone that's praising them but it's just not happenin'.
