Sbbmsve Posted December 19, 2018 Author Posted December 19, 2018 (edited) 25. Planningtorock - Transome Genre: Synthpop, Art Pop Quote Openning my track list, we have Planningtorock! Planningtorock returned with a stunning album (Powerhouse) after 2014's revolutionary All Love's Legal. Powerhouse deals with Jam's personal life and their gender politics (as usual). I decided to include album's trans anthem, Transome on my tracks list. This song is like mid 2000s Timbaland R&B jams meet PTR's unconventional songwriting + singing. Results are pretty effective, I repeated this song like many many times. It is insanely catchy. I recommend this if you've liked Fever Ray's Plunge or The Knife in general 24. George Clanton - Make It Forever Genre: Chillwave, Synthwave Quote George Clanton is one of my top discoveries this year (#indieheauxs' payola did THAT). I'm glad I discovered him because Slide is a really good album. There are many highlights and points . Make It Forever in particular catched my attention the most. This track is like a dream pop + chillwave aesthetic fusion. The production is very noisy, you can't really wrap your head around it which makes for a dreamy feeling. Also his vocals are great too, lot of emotions Like... George can get the 24th spot on my list. 23. Yves Tumor - Lifetime Genre: eclectic, surreal, psychedelic, atmospheric, dense, dark, abstract, noisy, male vocals, sampling, longing, introspective, lonely, melodic, avant-garde, nocturnal, mysterious, lush, anxious, alienation, melancholic, chaotic, love, political, english Quote SCORPI ON CAN'T HOLD ME BACK I CAN' NOT BREATHE I SWEAR IT'S TORTURE Yves is ending all the ****ed up-ness that white poeple caused with his 2018 album SITHOL. Title is a very clear dig at the caucasian singer - song writer Kate Bush's 1985 album Hounds Of Love (HOL) as in "sit down bitch, I'm outselling you". Lifetime is the third single from SITHOL and it is arguably the most hard hitting one. It just shooks you the **** up. 22. serpentwithfeet - bless ur heart Genre: Alternative R&B Quote Ok, real talk Soil was a ****ing snooze. I was really let down by him since he kinda snapped with his previous EPs. But I love this track. His soulful singing is really beautiful. I will regret putting him above Yves in the future but well. That's all. 21. Mitski - Pink In The Night Genre: Art Pop, Indie Rock Quote Last track for today, we have miss Mitski and her emotional tear-jerker Pink In The Night. Ugh, I can't believe I hated this puta when this album came out, but I overcame my foolishness (you know what that is? growth) and appreciated Be The Cowboy I COULD STARE AT YOUR BACK ALL DAY Edited December 19, 2018 by Sbbmsve
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 19, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 19, 2018 I like the idea of Transome but the song got old quick for me. Lifetime is great, prob my 3rd or 4th fave from the album. I think Bless Ur Heart was my fave on the soil album but... idfk. I only listened once. Interesting Mitski pick, prob my 2nd or 3rd least favorite on her album. Make it Forever is super cute.
Body Electrician Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 interesting Mitski pick. I like it but would but it mid-tier on the album personally.
Eeveelution Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Ignore the heffas above, WIG in the night is a discography highlight.
Dom Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Yaaaas miss Mitski is here, super good, let's not even lie here. Nobody is the best song from her this year tho.
theblackestday Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Bitch I CHOKED @ Fever Ray Quote Genre: eclectic, surreal, psychedelic, atmospheric, dense, dark, abstract, noisy, male vocals, sampling, longing, introspective, lonely, melodic, avant-garde, nocturnal, mysterious, lush, anxious, alienation, melancholic, chaotic, love, political, english My favorite genre finally some appreciation for Lifetime Noid and Licking an Orchid wish Pink in the Night so proud of you for seeing the light bbgirl

Sbbmsve Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) 20. Grouper - Parking Lot Genre: Ambient Pop Quote BRING YOUR CAR IN THE PARKING LOT, AND RIDE ALL NIGHT TILL YOU GET A SPOT- wait... wrong Parking Lot. This is the lead single from Liz Harris' mini album Grid of Points. Ugh, I just love the piano songs of Grouper. They are so lush and her voice just carries you away. Grid of Points is not her best material but definitely a great record. And this song is a highlight from it. 19. Lana Del Rey - Venice Bitch Genre: Psychedelic Rock Quote Lana Del Rey returns with 2 stunning singles after her snooze album Lust For Life (I decided to include Venice Bitch). Now, I don't know why she decided to do an album like Lust For Life. It was too bloated and the singles just weren't it (Love, Lust For Life). Sometimes the songs had too much going on. But this time around she ditches her usual bigger than life approach and goes for a more low-key style. Venice Bitch lasts almost 10 minutes ( ), being Lana's longest song to date. Now, this 10 minute could be shortened by getting rid of pointless instrumental part at the end. That part was probably made by Jack Antonoff, because it is bland and uninspired But also, this song's focus point is not the instrumental, it is Lana's singing and her tight songwiriting. Lyrics are just fun and careless. Her voice really gives the song an attitude. Yeah.. overall I'm stanning Venice Bitch & Mariner's Apartment Complex. Looking forward for Norman ****ing Rodwell 18. Nilüfer Yanya - Thanks 4 Nothing Genre: Indie Pop Quote Nilüfer Yanya has been dropping some catchy pop tunes over the few years as an independent artist (she is signed to ATO Records now). This year's Thanks 4 Nothing is arguably her best single to date. She sings about a failed releationship over a simple guitar riff. I'm in LOVE with her voice in this song. It is so effortless. She conveys the emotions perfectly. According to some rumors ( ) her debut album might come out next year. If you haven't checked her yet, please do yourself a favor and catch up with her singles (Baby Luv, T4N and Golden Cage are her strongest releases). 17. James Blake - Don't Miss It Genre: Alternative R&B, Glitch Pop Quote On the 17th spot, we have James Blake. James Blake released two amazing singles this year, they are expected to be on his next album which might come out in 2019. There were some controversy about how Don't Miss It was received by some publications. They focused on James being a "sad white boy" instead of the music. Then James released a statement about it and criticized those publications. Anyways... Don't Miss It and If The Car Beside You Moves Ahead have a more glitchy production like his earlier EPs. His voice has tons of effects and layers (again). It is so masterfully done. Love it. 16. The 1975 - I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes) Genre: Indie Pop Quote The 1975's new album, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, was probably the most unexpected album I've heard this year. I found the band's previous effort (I ain't gonna write its name, it's too long ✨) kinda weak. There were too many fillers and lazy song-writing. And production was not that original. Though, there were some songs that I've liked (UGH!, Love Me, If I Believe You). Speaking of originality, unfortunately same applies for their new album too. There are many songs that sound like other artists' songs. But this doesn't stop them from being great. Bands' lead singer, Matt Healy really pulls out all the spots in terms of song-writing. On my 16th spot I've chosen album's Taylor Swift sounding closer I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes). It is probably their most epic song and a great closer to their amazing album. Uncatena Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 i forgot james released two songs this year lkfljk Venice Bitch is her best song since Ultraviolence, i said what i said that P2R alberm was... cute. maybe i should give it another listen yaaas @ geroge clanton. he would have made my list but i was already done with them when i discovered her lifetime is amazing im glad you agree that the snoozefestforfeet alberm was NOT it, he thought he did smth there. somebody lied to her several times and told her she could sing, write songs and have great production. but she is nothing like that, she has nothing of the sort great choice for mitski, an underrated gem.

Blue Rose Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Grouper MAC > Venice Bitch (I agree with the L4L drags. Her worst album) 1975 The James Blake song was atrocious. I remember being disgusted
volition Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 i thought venice bitch was too standard and uninventive for a while but then i realised it was beautiful i don't like the lyrics that much though but it's whatever
