potent Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Ariana's music is not the tea for me, but I'll stick around for the rest of the top 5
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 27, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 27, 2018 BTY is SLAYING these year end lists here I heard it at the gym once tho and didn't like it though. She's been poopoo since Wolves to me.
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 27, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 27, 2018 I've not been a huge fan of Selena for a while
TheWayWeWere Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 BTY stan this song is still gets me pop perfection tbh
Dom Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 YASSS AT BACK TO YOU, SOMEONE STANS IT HERE, SLAYY. I LOVED THE DAMN SONG AND MV. MEXICAN MADONNA DID THAT.
lhdang2000 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Back To You is cute. I find it underwhelming compared to her recent efforts tho.
Bubble Tea Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 3. Dance To This - Troye Sivan ft. Ariana Grande Sorry for the big break in-between posts! After falling in love with both Troye and Ariana this year, I was pleasantly surprised to find out the pair are not only friends - but also collaboration partners! This song is a lot chiller than anyone would’ve expected - but it’s definitely a Troye song FEATURING Ariana. It’s his style of pop, a little more laid back, a little less bright and sparkly and more soothing and conscientious. The video is also super cute and reflects the way I feel about the song. I’ve listened to the song over and over and I just think it is GREAT pop. I really think Troye is just gonna get bigger and bigger as time goes on. He’s in it for the long run. (I’m not really into twinks but he is SOOOOOOO f-ing beautiful.)
Lazuli Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Back to You is a bop Love both Troye and Ari but I was kinda disappointed by how boring DTT is tho tbh
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 1, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted January 1, 2019 eh it's cute, but not top 3 worthy imo
potent Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Yeah I wouldn’t call Dance to This top 3 material, but it’s definitely a cute pop song, the collab works well between them.
lhdang2000 Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Dance to This is underwhelming initially. I've grown to love it more tho.
Bubble Tea Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 2. Always Remember Us This Way - Lady Gaga A Star is Born has well and truly swept the globe and solidified Lady Gaga as an actress to an undeniably international artist. Who'd have thought? It really brings home the ATRL joke-phrase "talent always wins" cause the truth is, it does. For a long time people have accused her of using gimmicks and stunts to prolong her fame, but in 2018 it's finally time to quash that misogynistic notion - because the facts are that Gaga is an enormously multi-talented woman who can both dress up in risque fashion choices, but also deliver stunning renditions of songs that showcase her powerful vocals and soaring notes. For me, "Always Remember This Way" is the perfect example for her to do this - not that she had anything more to prove to me, but it seems for others she was STILL somehow seen as a fad. There's no "fad" when it comes to beautiful singing, heartstring-tugging songwriting and impeccable acting. Gaga is THAT triple threat, along with her many other skills. I'm so glad to see 2018 was her year and I hope she collects the accolades she deserves in 2019!
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 3, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2019 omg she did that
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted January 3, 2019 ATRL Moderator Posted January 3, 2019 ARUTW is cute. Definitely one of the better folky ballad songs on the album.
potent Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 ARUTW is a good track but I don't really agree with it being higher than Shallow
lhdang2000 Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Oh wow higher than Shallow? I kinda agree after listening to it the past few days tho.
Bubble Tea Posted January 5, 2019 Author Posted January 5, 2019 Alright gays - hope you're ready for my #1! She's quickly rose to become one of my faves, she's the greatest god created, she's a sickness, she's contagious... 1. Coming tomorrow... - *** ******
MP2K Posted January 5, 2019 Posted January 5, 2019 Didn't think B2U had that much hold in 2018. Don't hate it or anything though
Bubble Tea Posted January 7, 2019 Author Posted January 7, 2019 1. All The Time - Kim Petras I know this song isn't everyone's cup of tea but for me it really made my 2018 THAT year! Honestly I would have put Kim's "I Don't Want It At All" but it was released last year and I try to keep my best of's purely songs from their respective year. All my life I've been addicted to hyper, up-beat pop songs that make me feel happy, simply, relatable lyrics that hook me and a punchy chorus. "All The Time" has all of that! One of my favourite lines is simply "Every night turns into morning, can't get you off my mind." It reminds me of crushes of yesteryear that linger and fester and refuse to let go of you - but I like how this song puts more of a cutesy, romantic side of crushes rather than the, well, crushing side. I LOVE how fast the verses is - and it's one of those times when I really love the use of autotune. It's not Kim trying to pretend flawlessly and hit amazing notes perfectly, it's being use to achieve a specific sound that's in-keeping with the rest of the production and I think it's purposeful and alluring. This was also my #1 most listened to song on Spotify for my end-of-year playlist, so here's to that. Listen here: Spoiler
