COMN is a great classic Weeknd song. SNTM is a bop, I only know the original though.

5 Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin - I Like It

EASILY Cardi's best song to date and I'm so glad this was not blocked from #1 by XXXTentacion or Drake in the summer. This was my summer anthem of 2018, even if Billboard may say it was Drake. I love that Cardi jumped on the latin urban surge, as it's where some of the best music of the late 10s has come from. The feature artists add a lot to the song and overall I found this song to be a very refreshing song to hear all over the US. The video is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for the song. I hope she has more genre-bending stuff like this coming - more ILI, less Money.

4 Kendrick Lamar & SZA - All the Stars

This should've been absolutely massive (#1 worthy) to complete the iconic Black Panther era, but it didn't even reach the Top 5 :'( A damn mess. SZA delivered one of the best albums of 2017 and her hot streaked continued in 2018 with this Kendrick collab. Her vocals soar and she sounds absolutely incredible. Kendrick also always serves quality, so they're a perfect match. The bridge of the song especially is pure bliss. I don't have much else to say besides that I absolutely love this and it is quality from start to finish.

3 Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss

I knew I would stan this song from the moment I heard the first beat drop in the first 30 seconds. Dua's voice is a perfect match for house-inspired beats, and this song instantly overshadows Calvin's funk project from last year (glad that phase is over now). The chorus is insanely catchy and every single detail is crafted to perfection. Calvin is one of my favorite, most consistent producers in pop and he was still on top of his game throughout 2018. The song's performance in the US is a hate crime - did it even go Top 40? Like? What the ****. I remember I played this song for some friends and they said it sounded like "elevator music". The lack of taste! - if an elevator is playing this I want to ride it then.

I Like It is a bop :)

One Kiss is cute, but one of my least favorite Dua tracks.

2 Ariana Grande - No Tears Left to Cry

While I was planning my YE countdown, this was actually my #1 for quite a while - but recently I've had a change of heart. I think this will age better than my #1 but I think having this ever so slightly behind #1 is the most accurate snapshot of my musical taste in 2018. Anyway, this song is magnificent and easily her best lead single to date (the super-dated Problem could not, sry). It has a super timeless sound and instantly makes me happy whenever I hear it. She sounds glorious even though she isn't doing a lot of vocal acrobatics - nonetheless, we get to hear a lot of different sides of her voice from the deeper vocal verses to those high runs at the end YAASS. The video also perfectly captures the energy of the song. This should've been a big #1 for her, but at least it saw quite a lot of success in the late spring and summer of 2018. I have a feeling this will be staying on my phone for a couple of years.

A pop masterpiece :)

1 Ariana Grande - God Is a Woman

It feels correct to have this as my #1 - it and No Tears are both 11/10s, but this one was completely unexpected coming from Ariana. I feel like this song is a lot of things at once - on the surface level, it's just a sex anthem, but the video and the undertones of the song also have a powerful feminist undertone of the potential power women have. Thank god she took this song from Camila and turned it into something more. It perfectly encapsulates modern trends while elevating the sound to new heights and dimensions. She does the trap-rapping type thing Migos has popularized lately with her own twist. And then that chorus is so clever and powerful. I think this song is actually pretty risky and I was so happy she made it the second single. It peaked in the Top 10, but it also should've gone #1. This is her 2nd best song only after Into You. It's funny, when this song was first being teased, I expected a gay, heavenly poppy anthem with a female choir chorus or some type of epic ****, but this delivered something different in the best way. But yes, she kept the choir element as I wanted.

I'm going to finish up all my countdowns this weekend - I'm doing Top 20 drag race queens of all time and worst songs of 2018. Decided to axe albums - my fave was Golden Hour if you're wondering lol. Stay tuned for the last 2 countdowns - I'll be doing them both this weekend. They're more silly.

Great top 2 - "2018" was kinda Ari's year huh.

I'd have put "ntltc" above "GIAW" but no real beef - both are amazing. GIAW isn't exactly on-trend so I never expected it to go #1 but it's cute. "ntltc" felt so massive and epic - especially in the wake of the Manchester's bombing tragedy. It was the perfect response, it was: "we've been heartbroken and traumatised by this horrific event, but we're not going to let this tragedy define us or limit the way we live our life. We will carry on stronger and happier than ever and we will never let these losers get us down."

okay so the 5 worst songs of 2018 (no order)

Meghan Trainor - No Excuses no growth. Disney channel teas. Awful video. No taste level present.

Sheck Wes - Mo Bamba Off-key. Wack beat. No redeeming qualities. Flow is annoying and basic.

Lil Dicky - Freaky Friday (feat. Chris Brown) Stupid and not funny, like all of Lil Dicky's music. Concept is tired. Chris is not someone I want to envy. Annoying.

6ix9ine, Nicki Minaj & Murda Beatz Utter garbage. Cheapens Nicki's brand. 6ix9ine is the rainbow leprechaun devil. Hideous song no matter how you spin it. Trash lyrics.

Drake - Nonstop Drake should stop pretending he's hood. We still doing this?

Kanye West & Lil Pump - I Love It Utter garbage again. Stupid and misogynstic. No lyrical skill involved. Lazy. Desperate.

Kodak Black - ZEZE (feat. Travis Scott & Offset) boring. represents everything wrong with rap rn.

Gucci Mane, Bruno Mars & Kodak Black- Wake Up in the Sky Bruno Mars wastes his talents on this. **** Kodak.
