Achilles. Posted December 10, 2018 Posted December 10, 2018 (edited) Welcome to my Best of 2018! Last year, I compiled my best year-end list ever (at the time; this year's takes the cake!)... and lost all interest in posting it, so only two people saw and commented! So, naturally, I'm going to be even more ambitious this year! 100 Singles 50 Albums 30 Soundtrack Songs 25 Tracks 10 Country Singles Awards And possibly some film, television, and/or most played lists. Mezik Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I'm back. And we're in the same situation where we both gave up last year, except you finished yours I didn't.

First update coming as soon as I upload the graphics and format the post... It features, um, some songs people might care about, I guess. Also some songs people won’t care about. Most of my lists are funny that way. Edited December 11, 2018 by Achilles.
Achilles. Posted December 11, 2018 Author Posted December 11, 2018 (edited) 21-30 30. Bleachers - Alfie’s Song (Love, Simon) Alfie? I don’t know her. This song? Not really a fan. It’s a cute bop, but that’s all. 29. Lin Manuel Miranda - Lovely London Sky (Mary Poppins Returns) The opening number of Mary Poppins Returns introduces us to the absolutely gorgeous, must-win-the-Oscar score... and Lin Manuel Miranda’s accent. It sets the stage nicely, but isn’t exactly a standout. 28. Sade - The Big Unknown (Widows) Flop song from a flop film. 27. Tim McGraw - Gravity (Free Solo) A documentary about a guy who climbs mountains without safety ropes or some **** was destined to be accompanied by fairly generic piano-led torch song about overcoming obstacles. Tim McGraw keeps it from being sappy or overbearing, so kudos to him. 26. Cast - Nowhere to Go but Up (Mary Poppins Returns) Angela Lansbury, sounding as phenomenal as ever, leads the Poppins cast through the film’s rousing finale. The song is the spiritual successor of “Let’s Go Fly A Kite”—which gets a shoutout and is sampled in the outro. That’s mostly why this song features on this countdown; “Kite” is my favorite song from the original film. 25. Selena Gomez - Back to You (13 Reasons Why) Selena Gomez keeps dropping these smash bops one a time and it. is. so. frustrating! Why put this on some suicide show’s soundtrack when you could just release a whole album? Whatever. Try for that Emmy, queen! 24. Jennifer Hudson - I’ll Fight (RBG) Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson does not seem to emerge from hibernation except to perform tributes, and “I’ll Fight” is one such tribute. “I’ll Fight” taps into the trailblazing personal history of Supreme Court justice and noted savior of America Ruth Bader Ginsburg to deliver a catch-all empowerment anthem perfectly suited to the times. It’s all about allyship and taking care of each other. 23. Kesha - Here Comes the Change (On the Basis of Sex) Kesha was also inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsburg when she penned this acoustic song about hope and change and parenthood. In some ways, “Here Comes the Change” feels like the direct followup to “Praying.” Then, she hoped someone was praying for themselves: praying for atonement, for self-improvement, for mercy. Now, she prays for herself and for us all: for change, for equality, for love to win. 22. Lady Gaga - Heal Me (A Star is Born) “Heal Me” scored fictional pop star Ally a smash #1 single and a Grammy win for Best New Artist, which makes its nearest real-world equivalent... “All About that Bass.” Except it’s, like, really ****ing good. It’s laden with hooks, beautifully sung, and perfectly implements a feminist-lite spoken-word bridge (complete with giggle! Taylor’s impact!). If this had been on LG6, it would have been Gaga’s best single in half a decade. 21. Khalid + Normani - Love Lies (Love, Simon) One of the year’s biggest slow-burning hits, “Love Lies” is probably the best song from each of its featured artists (definitely hers, almost definitely his). Mezik Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 I love Back to You. Love Lies is cute, and I kept on waiting for it to play during the movie but was disappointed when it wasn't even played in the background. Tim McGraw's Gravity? Really....
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 12, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 12, 2018 You were so kind to include Back to You and Love Lies, at least someone will!
Blue Rose Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Love Lies I love Sade but The Big Unknown didn’t slay me at all.

Remmy Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 Best Soundtrack Songs: I also don't know Alfie But "Alfie's Song" is much more than just a cute bop! Haven't listened to any of the Mary Poppins stuff yet, trying to wait until I see the movie at some point. I like Selena and love Kesha, but I wasn't feeling those songs from them.
