Quote Well, this year was basically a year of acknowledgment of Janet's career, which I'm very happy for, so it reflects that lists. Lily Allen was another person that touches me that year, thanks to her amazing revive of image and great book along with interviews, nice to see her grow. Of course, we all need to remember that this years was also a year of losing another legend and icon - rest in peace, Aretha. On a positive note, I need to say thanks to youtube recommendations for Rae Morris discover, if you still didn't see her Do It music video - watch it now, one of most positive and bright MV this year. bestfiction Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Nice seeing Janet I honestly need to finish her discography off as well, I still get my hands on her pre-90s albums Not Fair is cute but I couldn't be bothered by Lily's INMIY era.... Alright, Still >
lhdang2000 Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Yas @ Mrs. Alicia Keys made it. I recently listened RN 1814 in full for the first time (sorry! ), and I was FLOORED.
Uncatena Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 okay, some classics. The Fear is one of my favorite pop songs ever, and Do It.m4a was my ****ing JAM for a long while we stan
potent Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Alicia and Janet charting on albums I don't know all the albums but I kinda use the rest of the artists there too except Ariana
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 11, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 11, 2018 I need to get into Janet too The Fame
Remmy Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Whew I wasn't ready for that beautiful banner i forgot how good your graphics are, even though I shouldn't since I follow your weekly countdown Top Recurrents: Singles~ Not Fair (YMMFL) a Natural Woman + Doesn't Really Matter Top Recurrents: Albums~ The Fame and Dangerous Woman Some of the others have nice singles Ready for more!
Kevin2803 Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Ariana & Lady Gaga Damita Jo also in the top 10
Ewan Chaos Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Rae sneaking in with that modern jam at #9, loves it. I basically count it as a 2018 release since I didn't know it until the album came out
TheWayWeWere Posted December 12, 2018 Author Posted December 12, 2018 so, I'll start with little honorable mentions Quote Nothing much to say about these, I loved these singles, but they kinda flopped on my weekly YTT and I decided to took off Xmas albums from Best Of as well Christine and the Queens — Doesn’t matter Ciara — Level Up Rae Morris — Atletico (The Only One) Say Lou Lou — Golden Child Mariah Carey — GTFO Sigrid — Sucker Punch Toni Braxton — Long As I Live Jessie Ware — Overtime LSD — Thunderclouds (feat. Sia, Diplo & Labrinth) Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson — Bad Dreams .... Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson — Apart EP Sia — Everyday Is Christmas Gwen Stefani — You Make It Feel Like Christmas . album #50 - Betty Who, Betty Pt. 1 Quote "You're afraid of the dark, it's cold in your heart, You need a friend like me" Betty being in my attention since her early EPs, but everything she's done on the label was questionable. Her debut album was cute, but has no replay value, while her second one even with very promising tracks was on the edge of being painfully bad. Her first independent effort in years - Betty, Pt. 1 EP - is good, but it has the same problem as The Valley - corny tracks like Taste or Look Back. But on the positive note, she keeps on giving cute pop bops. some favorites: Just Thought You Should Know, Friend Like Me, The Other Side (not from this project - but it's great and needs to be recognized) single #50 - Benny Blanco ft. Halsey & Khalid, Eastside Quote "My love is yours if you're willing to take it" Welp, probably the only reason I put my eye on that song was Halsey, this bitch provived us with bops for a few years already. It's pretty catchy, with melody and I love how Khalid and Halsey vocals flaunts this, nothing that special tho album #49 - Madison Beer, As She Pleases Quote "You say you can't live without me, then why aren't you dead yet?" I used to ignore girls that ATRL tries to promote (say hi to Tinashe and Zara ), but I tried with previews to that EP on Apple Music and this ends being pretty good Pure pop mixed with some indie vibes and good lewks I hope she finds some success with GP. She needs good MVs tho for it, I still can't believe how they ruined Home With You with awful vid. some favorites: Dead, Home With You, Fools single #49 - Charli XCX, Girls Night Out Quote "No boys, no boys, No boys, no boys, No boys, no boys" I waited this since last year, so I'm so glad it's finally getting released. This song is a bop and a half, would've been great if Charli release video for it with Boys concept, but with all-star girls Btw, interesting fact: Charli sets the record this year in my YTT - most top 10s in one year (five: 5 in the Morning, Bitches, Focus, Girls Night Out and 1999 all went top 10), despite that it's her only entry in year-end charts album #48 - MNEK, Language Quote "When did we get out of the honeymoon phase?" I've waited this album since he debuted with that messy square hair This effort ends up being very inconsistent: while he keeps releasing electronic beautiful bops, there's some basic corny tracks like Colour (wtf is that ) And tbh his new femme image along with twitter-stan personality ruins entire experience for me. some favorites: Free, Touched by You, Paradise single #48 - Justin Timberlake, Supplies Quote "Baby, we'll be living in The Walking Dead" I know Justin and this song exactly are pretty hated on ATRL, but tbh it's my favorite single from MOTW. It's probably because it reminds me of his FS/LS sound and mid-00s in particular. But, just like album, this song became old for me pretty fast, so I dropped it quickly
