Dom Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Make Me Feel in mentions, I loved Janelle this years, never was a fan of her music, but this new album, visual games that she did, everything was so point and sleek. she did that.
Kingie Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 We Appreciate Power slaps....could've done with a minute or two chopping off the running length though. Kiss is the only Prince song I (semi) regularly listen to so I thought Make Me Feel was a nice rehash to take up radio airplay this year over some of the other Top 40 shite.
Pink Matter Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Some v solid HMs. Charcoal Baby, Summer, MMF, King's Dead, and The One are all dope

Vilppu Posted December 20, 2018 Author Posted December 20, 2018 will reply to the comments later SONGS – HONOURABLE MENTIONS PART 2 ok so a few things: - this is rly a singles list (so now the pic for the carters makes more sense), tentatively calling it 'songs' in case some of these are promotional, buzz, whatever other bs artists come up with to call non-singles singles, had a video but weren't a single or i imagined it was a single (this has happened before) - it's only 40 songs bc i cba + for a lot of songs this year i thought they were pretty good but not good enough, you know? - for the sake of diversity, i tried to keep the acts who made albums list out of here but three best songs from those will appear. albums HM are all fair game too - you can treat all the HMs as #21 really, idk how i'd rank them anyway AND i'm definitely not trying to write more about any of these - there was something more i had typed here yesterday but dementia is catching up - this batch is kinda dumb, promise the actual top 20 is better Quote MNEK – Tongue // Any artist ever can randomly deliver greatness regardless of how worthless their previous output was, exhibit A. This song would probably be nothing special but some nice bass and really great tension balance make it work just fine. Nicki Minaj – Barbie Tingz // FAKE NEWS real ranks come on Sunday Nine Inch Nails – God Break Down the Door // I’m not sure if I really understand the purpose of their most recent release but this song was pretty cool so I guess it has some. Poppy – X // Any artist ever can randomly deliver greatness regardless of how worthless their previous output was, exhibit B. Pop in metal clothing in general is a really fun combo because it takes what makes either genre work and mashes it and honestly, the tackier and clumsier the better, and Poppy the Robot’s dull persona actually works great here. Post Malone – Better Now // The time any other person would take to shower, Post spends on improving his music quality and it shows – what other rap song doing numbers in recent memory has a melody this good. Perhaps we should all give up personal hygiene. Rae Morris – Dancing with Character // Her album fell off hard and, conversely, its closer got better with time. It’s subtle and elegant, if all pop songs sounded like this, maybe I too would join the remove rap from Billboard crowd. Ravyn Lenae – Sticky // Apparently this came out in 2017 but no one gave a ****, a Post Malone getting a nom for „Rockstar” released outside of eligibility period tea. This song is not as good as „Rockstar” and Ravyn is not as interesting as Post but those are unfairly high standards to hold anyone to and on its own, it’s perfectly fine. Rosalia – Pienso en tu mira // The first thing which came to mind when I was listening to Rosalia’s highly acclaimed second album was how easy it is for words to completely lose their original meaning, especially in the age of the internet. You don’t have to look far away to see „dated” used to describe any song older than 3 years that user A doesn’t like or user B mention something is a „complete flop” meaning it sold about 4 copies than less than it was expected to. On the top of the list of misused and overused words, however, stands „overrated”. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s a fairly meaningless adjective in its own right as there’s really no solid ground to base assumption on how fairly something is rated, it’s absolutely incomparable with how „overrated” something else is and really, in a way it’s a value even more subjective than saying something is „bad”. In the end, there could be a 100 people in the room and 99 think Lady Gaga is a clown but there’s one who thinks she’s a great artist – and an OGH will tell you she’s „overrated” as they don’t think she deserves any praise whatsoever; alternatively, Pitchfork regular may call „Golden Hour” an „overrated” album because it’s been collecting many, many, many rave reviews and spots on year-end list – two completely different situations summarised with one and the same word making you think that they might be considerably more similar. So anyway, Rosalia is overrated but this song deserved the praise it’s received. Travis Scott – Sicko Mode // Drake’s achingly slow section comes and ruins all of what this song has managed to built up to that point which is a real shame – the first two parts of this song work really well and would be enough for the track to get onto the main favourites batch no problem. Regardless, it’s definitely the best #1 hit this year, sorry Ari. Troye Sivan – Bloom // For a bizarrely long period of time I convinced myself this song wasn’t any good so to compensate I guess I now like this more than I’m willing to admit. Shoutout to the Sufjan dick sucking track too, I thought that was really nice right from the beginning. important songs should start tomorrow if i don't get a creative block, it should be done by christmas eve
Bxtch Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Quote MNEK – Tongue Troye Sivan – Bloom Not really into male songs, but I love these two

xrosup Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I wanna say Rosalía's music would not fully appreciated unless you speak Spanish but I might be wrong
Body Electrician Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 X and Bloom rare moments of greatness from talentless artists
Eeveelution Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 Sticky was a classic. Points also made with X, Barbie Tingz and Dancing. Rosalia.. wow you went there.
Blue Rose Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 I agrih with the Sicko Mode writeup. Nice buildup then blaah. MNEK slays. He deserves more respect. Oh and triple wig at Bloom. The Sufjan ripoff is also a wig snatcher.
volition Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 lmao, love the rosalia write-up. god break down the door might be my favourite song here but sicko mode is also great and i like pretty much everything else there
ATRL Moderator Tsareena Posted December 20, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 20, 2018 great song batch... I like most of these.. sticky and pienso en tu mira
Tom Vercetti Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 x is one of poppy's small number of flukes. yea, ravyn was rarely in sight last year. Poor her. Sicko could've been just the 2nd part of the song and I would've been satisified.
Pink Matter Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Dancing With Character, Sticky, Pienso en tu mira, SICKO MODE whew they didn't have to go that hard Quote So anyway, Rosalia is overrated lies, fallacies, and fairy tales

World Eater Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Miałem wczoraj skomentować, ale zobaczyłem, ile tutaj tego wszystkiego i poszedłem spać Characoal Baby, WAP, MMF, Butterflies, Only Acting, Sticky, Pienso en tu mira i SICKO MODE, we stan Myślałem przez chwilę, że SUMMER to jeden z tych nieznośnych ballado-wyjców, ale sprawdziłem i całe szczęście to jeden z lepszych tracków
RobDeWittBukater Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 Catching up with your countdown just now (Christmas break is here AT LAST ) and while I'm not familiar with the majority of the albums you've picked as your favorite of 2018, your write-ups for each absolutely made me want to step out of my bubble a bit and give them a listen which I hope to do soon. And as a fellow Jjong fan, your #1 album is also one I am emotionally attached to, I'm so glad you found comfort in his music
