prézli Posted December 18, 2018 Author Posted December 18, 2018 I don't know what happened, but 50-year-old R&B stars were slaying this year. After En Vogue's high placement in the last update, Macy Gray grabs a higher position in this list with "Ruby" closing track "Witness". (Poor Katy Perry, when will you.) This song was my most played track of the year and it's easy to see why: in the more gospel-influenced and less jazzy song, Macy Gray delivers emotions while the production lets her voice to be explored Australian indie pop singer Amy Shark was 32 years old when her debut album "Love Monster" was released earlier this year. Kinda old, huh? In "I Said Hi", she explains that she tried to break out in the music industry, but the managers always rejected her. "I bet the whole world thought that I would give up today." She's here with this amazing song and her future is as bright as today. Amy said hi and is never going to say goodbye. If "Just Say Yes" and "Signal Fire" (later one is my all-time favorite by Snow Patrol) were mixed together, that would be "A Dark Switch." Taken off "Wildness", "A Dark Switch" is truly the band's wildest side and a highlight from their seventh LP. (But not that wild, it's just a bit weird in a good way.) "The small town of my mind as it was / Now a city, wreaking havoc, stretching endless." Say a better line from any track from 2018, I'm waiting. Shinedown is usually known for their commerical rock sound, but forget it soon. As the darkest number of their 2018 concept album "Attention Attention", "BLACK SOUL" starts with the piano keys, but Brent Smith's angry voice destroys the whole illusion: in the chorus, he screams straight to the face. (I can't feel my face, as Weeknd once sang.) With this song, the band proved to be more than Nickelback soundalikes and I'm loving it. Ciara came, stepped up to a new level and won! Mindblowing, brilliant, unique. (Poor Beyoncé.) At first listen & watch, it was obvious that "Level Up" would be The Song Of 2018 for me. Similar to the my 2013 number-one song "TKO" by Wynter Gordon, its never-stopping energy and confidence meet heavy synth beats and dance / R&B elements separately at the same time. Bring us the best album of 2019, CiCi. RECAP 50. Kelly Clarkson: Heat 49. Diana Gordon: Kool Aid 48. Alexandra Burke: All the Things You Are 47. Alexandra Stan: India (feat. Kent Archie) 46.
