Lazuli Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 The Internet nn @ you calling the album an autopilot, but now that I think of it, it really felt like it. Kacey (no one ever calls you basic you have like one of the most indie tastes around ) Denzel and Young Fathers are cute
theblackestday Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Dis-tor-tion hook of the year? maybe so. and when she screams it >>> Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays doesn't get enough love so I'm glad you went with it Border Girl Only Acting TTTGTF In mother earth phase Spells
TheWayWeWere Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 High Horse is pop perfection wait, I've never seen Border Girl cover
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 25, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 25, 2018 Kylie's Golden era.... I don't really think of it as "noise" in Only ACting more as the song is falling apart, which sounds nice. Don't let the pretentious people who like "true" noise music fool you its a GREAT PART OF THE SONG. I played Spells for my friend and she said "she soudns like she's trapped in a coffee shop in 1996" ff. narashite is the best, you are correct.

Sunderland 4ever Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Hahaha I see what Parquet Courts did there, or should I say... Panini Courts. :p Off Jenny Hval I prefer The Long Sleep. Loading Zones is an alright intro for the album. Shout-outs to Kacey, KKB and Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
Pink Matter Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 65. The Internet - Roll (Burbank Funk) 62. Noname ft Smino and Saba - Ace 61. Denzel Curry ft JPEGMAFIA & Zillakami - Vengeance 56. Kurt Vile - Loading Zones my faves from the set I wouldn't say The Internet is on autopilot, in fact I think this album shows them working together more effectively as a single unit (which can be good or bad depending on who you ask). I think they also should have the chance to relax without changing their sound again. Listening to Purple Naked Ladies, then Feel Good, then Ego Death, then this, they all have their own distinct sound. To me at least. the Denzel lashings are too mas for me
Vilppu Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Quote Kylie's Golden era we don't talk about that... it never happened... my favourite set yet i think! border girl and only acting are particularly great but to different extents i like every song here
MP2K Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Roll, High Horse, Total Football and good to ee Ace
Tremor Christ Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 I watched Young Fathers live when they opened for Massive Attack. Are they worth checking? I saw them on plenty of y.e lists so i'm thinking of checking them out.
collin Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 UMO, Young Fathers, Kacey, KKB I never am fully able to enjoy Tim Hecker's music for whatever reason
World Eater Posted December 25, 2018 Posted December 25, 2018 Can't be bothered to list all the songs I liked, because there's so many of them, but this is without a doubt the best update so far On 12/24/2018 at 7:24 PM, Tom Vercetti said: One of the few non bitch-made tracks from taboo. LOVE the Young Fathers artwork this era. Only acting ahead of its time indeed. YF art work been consistent. On 12/24/2018 at 9:43 PM, Remmy said: High Horse yeeehaw! The first song I heard from Golden Hour earlier in the year, and it's what made me stay away from the album. Now I recognize it as a bop but the verses >> chorus. Plus I actually prefer her slower tracks, which I wasn't really expecting. I kinda agree on the verses thing. Tom Vercetti Posted December 26, 2018 Author Posted December 26, 2018 50. Slayyyter - Alone (Electropop/Glitch Pop) I discovered her this year and I didn't think I would like her stuff that much but her music shows promise. There's nods to early Britney mixed with modernized electropop and an aggressive tone in particular to Alone. No debut album yet, but again, on the lookout. Spoiler 49. Marie Davidson - Work It (Minimal Synth/Tech House) She has a talent for making spoken word about working from 9 to 5 over pulsating synth beats sound alluring. Spoiler 48. LOONA ft JinSoul - Egoist (Olivia Hye) (K-Pop/Electropop) Loona was kinda an it-girl this year in the K-Pop realm. I wasn't too much into their EP due to inconsistent ups and downs but their standalone singles have held it down. The choruses are major. Spoiler 47. Alva Noto - Uni Blue (Minimal Techno/Glitch) It's not that easy for me to describe this kind of music but it offers to me ear-pleasing static riffs against a pulsating sound terrain. Even these kind of artists have lead singles and I can see why this was chosen for it. Spoiler 46. Azealia Banks - Anna Wintour (Hip House/Garage House) She's almost as inconsistent as Nicki nowadays (she also needs to stop trying to sing so much based on her recent ep) but at least she knows her niche and what she's good at (sing rapping over house beats). Serving as a sibling to The Big Big Beat , it's still an enjoyable song. Personality aside i'll give credit when due. Spoiler 45. Fijimacintosh - Wintertime Nights (Trap Rap/Pop Rap) An upcomer with carti influence. Be on the lookout for that Freshman 2019 roster. Spoiler 44. Migos - Stir fry (Southern Hip Hop) Their last outstanding song. Released around late december (at a time where my songs list last year was mostly done already), this gave promise to Culture 2, whom of which I won't speak on any further. Spoiler 43. Clarence Clarity - Next Best Thing (Synth Funk/Glitch Pop) One of his more straightforward pop songs in comparison to No Now. I love his productions which is the best thing about him. The other touches; key change, guitar riff, are also nice. Spoiler 42. Travis Scott - Astrothunder (Cloud Rap/Pop Rap) Produced by Thundercat & John Mayer, this pulls off the psychedelic vibe he was going for the most. The reverb'd vocals and trippy pieces fit together. Although it is one of the shortest (if not the shortest) it has the most replay value to me (aside from Butterfly Effect). Spoiler 41. Trippie Redd - Topanga (Pop Rap/Alternative R&B) Out of the Gen Z (xxx, 69, pump, peep) crew, I find Trippie to be one the more talented out of the crop. Sure if you look at him, it's easy to not take him seriously but he has the voice and emotion. The beat on this ? Spoiler 40. Jessie Ware - Overtime (Garage House/Dance-Pop) I think most of us are glad she went back to the this sound because it does suit her and it's more engaging than anything on Snoozehouse. Spoiler 39. Aseul - Always With You (Electropop/Synthpop) I was recommended this and I adore the soft and lush feelings this song evokes. Spoiler 38. Obliteration - Charnel Plains (Death Metal) This rips as a closing track and the outro bass, whew. Spoiler 37. Daniel Avery - Slow Fade (Ambient Techno) One of my favorite techno tracks of the year. The middle section where it transitions to a floaty sensation >. Spoiler 36. Rae Sremmurd ft Juicy J - Powerglide (Pop Rap/Trap Rap) A consistent hit throughout the year and they always seem to have at least one per era. Anthem-like production and a solid performance from the gang. Spoiler x
Ewan Chaos Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 Glasshouse is slightly underrated! But yes, Overtime is exactly where she needs to go for the next record, so it's good she's going in that direction. Anna Wintour, I forgot about that song. It's nice! I like that Clarence song too

ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted December 26, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 26, 2018 You should have picked the B-side to Egoist, Rosy instead. it is BETTER, PERIOD. I love Alone, but I thnk I'm High and Candy are better (and the xmas song too). Overtime, Stir Fry, Powerglide, Anna Wintour, Work it are great. Anna Wintour would be 10/10 without 25¢ production.
theblackestday Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 You reminded me that I meant to check that Slayyyter girl, I'll get to it Cute set, I think Slow Fade is my favorite
Eeveelution Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 Egoist, Overtime, Anna Wintour, Next Best Thing, Always With You. Points made with AW and Overtime write-ups too.

Rosy is cute but doesn't have as much power and is more on the lowkey side. Haven't heard the xmas song yet. I think we've seen from her videos and recent songs that Azealia doesn't have much budget so she has to work with what's given. 34 minutes ago, theblackestday said: You reminded me that I meant to check that Slayyyter girl, I'll get to it Cute set, I think Slow Fade is my favorite She released like 8 singles this year so you're bound to like something. 32 minutes ago, Eeveelution said: Egoist, Overtime, Anna Wintour, Next Best Thing, Always With You. Remmy Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 I remember Anna Wintour having around 45 seconds of quality and then the rest left me bored dd. Stir Fry is actually listenable to congrats to them on that accomplishment!
Vilppu Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 did not expect aseul this high slay imo egoist and the azealia song would require some serious re-working to become truly great but i did enjoy them to a degree and everything else here i like
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 26, 2018 ATRL Moderator Posted December 26, 2018 Well I still think Glasshouse was good, but Overtime is such a bop
Pink Matter Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Solid set! My fave's gotta be Marie but Migos, Travis, Jessie, and Rae all slay. Lots of big bops in this set Edit: Also on The Internet, I like that the reason you and some others don't like HM is the reason I do lol
